  • At our channel @DIYDollArtist we repair and restore broken, sometimes dirty, neglected dolls and toys. The restoration of these vintage dolls can come in many different ways, some we find at shops, some are found and given to us to restore, and some just need a little love and the owner wants us to restore and then give her a new home. This video is of the latter, a lady had a lovely vintage composition Shirley Temple doll that had some very serious cracks in her composition head. She asked if I could restore her and if I would then give her home. I felt confident that I could restore the doll and agreed to give it a try. This video shows just that, after successfully repairing the cracks in her head I restored her original dress, slip and shoes. Here are some links from our channel @DIYDollArtist and some of the products we used to restore this vintage composition Shirley Temple doll.

      If you are talking about Shirley leaving me a large tip she certainly did. Her beautiful presence in my room. I’m always going to be puzzled by dolls made from the same molds can looks so different from one another. I agree with you she is the most beautiful Shirley I’ve ever seen. But I noticed that before we even started working on her. Wonders never cease! She is on an antique wooden stand in my room looking like she just came out of her box. A dream come true for me. I always wanted one like her. That’s the biggest tip I’ve ever gotten.❤️😉🌺

      @@margaretlynch1494 I told her owner I would fix her and if she changed her mind when she saw her I would send her back since it was her mothers. But she said she just wanted to find someone to fix her and give her a good home and we said we would. We tried to send her pics of the doll finished but she removed herself from where we were able to contact her. So we now can’t even send her the pics . We are very great full to have her moms doll and she will be loved and well cared for. Maybe she will see the video and maybe look at the comments. We are so happy you shared the video with your friends.❤🌺🥰

      what I would suggest you look at a video we made on repairing two crack in a hard plastic dolls head. Because if you are able to push your dolls cracks together some the method we used on the doll in this video would be the same method to use on your Shirley . it would be a safe method if your able to push them together some. check it out it sounds like it would work for you doll.🥰🌺

    Lovely! So much work on the wig. 2 questions: do you ever just dip the shoes in olive oil and have you ever sanded and repainted a composition doll head or body?

    • @DIYDollArtist
      @DIYDollArtist  Před měsícem

      yes it was a lot of work on her wig. But boy what a wig to work with!😮 No I don’t just dip the shoe’s because it would be just too much oil for the shoe material to deal with. Which could possibly cause problems. Yes we have sanded and repainted composition heads and bodies on quite a few composition dolls. I really like compo. dolls but it takes both Chantae’s skills and mine to do a good restoration. On this one my husband helped some as well.❤️

      @@DIYDollArtist thanks for the answers. I have a Kewpie composition doll that was also my mom's but I am not brave enough to sand and paint. I will try the oil pastels though on the crazing. Good tip

    Just a heads up on oil. Use mineral oil or petroleum jelly as vegtable oils eventually go rancid and give off a foul odor. I very much like that you are not peeling and totally repainting dolls that can be conserved like the big Shirley Temple.

    • @DIYDollArtist
      @DIYDollArtist  Před měsícem +2

      thank you very much for information. people have told me to use linseed oil . which I can’t and others say olive beaks down in flavor but can still be used for many things. well your mineral oil sounds great I won’t be allergic to that. I started using olive oil for many things years and years ago because of my allergies. so when brittle shoes needed to be oiled that’s what I used. I guess I’m lucky my house and more doesn’t stink .I use it on my face too. can’t use creams.I will take your advice and use mineral oil for the shoes. I did mention that other's use linseed oil and that people should use what they felt was best.I will mention what you said on a video so people can choose what they will so thanks again.❤️😘

      @@DIYDollArtist Museum conservationists no longer use linseed oil because they found in 50 years or more it can darken and turn items black or dark in color.
