2022 Ducati Panigale V2 Review - Is It Worth Its Hefty Price?

- Ducati’s 2022 Panigale V2 ($17,395) continues the line of midsize-plus sportbikes from the famed Borgo Panigale factory. Every few years Ducati updates its models with a number of nice improvements, generally following the design of its flagship superbike model, and that sort of evolution is what we’re looking at here.

Aesthetics
This handsome streetbike continues to follow the form of the sensational-looking Panigale V4, the current design of which debuted for the 2018 model year. We love its look. We don’t know how Ducati designers do it, but almost every time the company comes out with a new superbike, its looks are stunning. Ducati always stands apart from its competition in its sleek, racy styling, its proper proportions, and the fact that these Italian bikes look like nothing else; the V2 continues that tradition.
Engine
Ducati’s familiar 955cc Superquadro L-twin, named for its gigantic cylinder bore, makes a repeat appearance here. That 100mm bore is paired with a short piston stroke, so this engine configuration likes to rev-and needs to rev as well; it has to be spinning at a high rpm to deliver usable performance.
Back in the old days, Ducati L-twin engines offered a lot of immediate low-to-midrange torque. The super big bore/short stroke configuration has changed that, and the Panigale V2 demands a different riding style. That said, while this engine won’t give you much acceleration off the bottom or through the midrange, keep it singing on the pipe and this beauty will get you where you’re going plenty fast. An electronic quickshifter makes it easy to work the six-speed gearbox, a necessity here as frequent shifting is required to keep this bike in its powerband and accelerating to its full capabilities. Whether it’s your style or not, the high powerband is certainly exhilarating.
Handling
With a full 4.5-gallon tank of premium fuel, this bike weighs in at 441 pounds, so no, it’s not exactly the lightest sportbike out in the market. Still, it handles very well, and we love how sharp it steers. Riders who primarily want a bike that loves to turn will find its performance quite satisfying. It’s helped greatly by its Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tires, which offer versatile performance on the road and track alike, heating up quickly and performing very well in the rain.
The Panigale V2 still uses the older-style Showa BPF fork, and there’s no shame in that; we love this front suspension, which debuted on the Suzuki GSX-R600/750 for the 2011 model year. It has an extremely wide range of adjustment, with damping adjusters atop each fork leg and preload adjustment at the bottom, a familiar arrangement that means it’s very easy to adjust.
This suspension performs well for the road, its intended home, and still delivers decent comfort with a good degree of road holding on the racing circuit. Still, the versatile Showa BPF fork, love it though we do, is getting a little bit long in the tooth for the hardcore sportbike arena. Realistically, if trackdays are the goal, a higher-specification fork would give a sharper damping response when getting after it at the racing circuit. Yet we were impressed by the bike’s love for medium-to-high-speed corners, where the bike really shines.
Ergonomics
Unsurprisingly, the Panigale V2 is, in typical Ducati form, a racy road bike; the clip-ons are low, the seat is high. We appreciate that the textured footpegs have good grip against the soles of the rider’s boots. We also like the seat’s handsome suede-like pseudo-Alcantara fabric covering, which keeps your rear end in place when you’re hustling through the canyons. That’s where this bike really shines.
Brakes
Hydraulic triple disc brakes, as usual, keep speed in check. We wish the brakes felt sharper; squeezing the lever gave the feeling that the brakes lacked a degree of initial bite. Owners might consider installing racier pads.
Electronics
The Panigale V2′s electronics package is similar to its bigger brother’s; adjustable power modes, Ducati Traction Control, independently adjustable wheelie control, and engine-brake control. We value the wide range of adjustment. For instance, there’s a notable difference between maximum and minimum engine-braking settings; riders can select a more aggressive engine-brake mode setting to help slow the bike at speed.

Can't believe the negative comments. This dude always makes really informative videos. He's always comparing a bikes style with other bikes, sharing his years of experience. The commute videos are great too. Lots of interesting and useful info in this V2 review and a few things I haven't heard in any other review. You keep doing your thing Adam. I like the way you talk slow and allow the words to sink in. Keep up the good work mate, I'm sure you do but make sure you completely ignore the haters
Difference between haring and disliking. Both parties can easily have facts and i for one will listen to the valid facts to better myself.

Best review of this bike yet. Pointed out the flaws which a lot of other reviewers are scared to do in case they don't get lent another bike.

Thanks for the review. The main selling points of the V2 over the 899 and 959(which flopped in the EU due to its ridiculous exhaust) is not only the looks but also its electronics. This Ducati is as sophisticated as the top tier Panigales, though its performance makes it simply the best superbike for the street. This explains, why Ducati can't keep the production to satisfy the demand. I agree on the criticism about too much plastic especially regarding the mirrors, but I believe Ducati does this on easily exchangeable parts to cut costs and to satisfy the aftermarket industry. What I don't think you are right on is the Supersport S. I have ridden it too and all the components of that bike felt much cheaper. However, the Supersport is so comfortable that You can ride it for 10 hours a day...
Was strongly looking at this bike until I looked at insurance numbers in my area, it’s the same category as liter superbikes and for me in my 40’s with a clean record I’m looking at about 4-5K a year, and I’m going to have to stop watching videos about it because it makes me want it still 😭
Jesus what? Are you in the US? I have multiple (MULTIPLE) speeding tickets rolling on and off my record every few years, also in my 40s here in Colorado and with State Farm, bundled full-coverage car/bike/renter's insurance is $121.48 a month...... Time to start shopping around there, K B

I have started watching a lot of videos at accelerated rates, especially ones that involve a lot of talking. A side benefit is that it is even more exciting to watch Adam riding at 2x speed!

Coming from a 959 to a V2, I agree with the lesser build quality comment. You can feel the cost cutting in some areas. But that is the trade off to get the better electronics and SSA V4 aesthetic.

What about the heat?? My V4 gave me 1st degree burns on my legs through riding jeans or kevlar.
I have loved Panigales since the 1299. However that heat issue is still an issue. So (a la Shark Tank) for that reason, I’m out. This is, until I can get it at 10K USD someday and throw some of the savings at the heat issue.
@@toluwole The V4 was so bad that I bought the heat shield kit, but it did nothing. I'm in a hot climate and the best I could do was try to get a leather suit, but I never got a chance to try one

do you think that Triumph Speed Trip1200RR is direct rival to Ducati Panigale V2 in terms of road manners. Please make a comparison video if you think so.
Sure it's pretty. GSXR1000(base model not the GSXR1000R) uses the exact same fork setup, comes with 40 more hp (give or take), 3 to 5 thousand dollars less. If your getting a track weapon, I would trust the Suzuki for each and every track weekend.
The 2 year warranty means if you need parts they will be delivered with in 2 years

Odd they don't have the S version with Ohlins like the Supersport S , which is more comfy and better low and mid end .
I bought a v2 love the styling so beautiful I have had r1 blades sp1 blackbird the v2 is fast brakes and turns . The mirrors are atrocious can’t see a damm thing and vibrates too short why ?
It is absolutely worth the price. If you're into racing - It can reach most speeds all other litre bikes reach. (off by a few KM/h) It will compare if not beat other bikes on the track. Technology wise it is great. For any rider who would like to upgrade from a 600cc, I won't advise it as a beginner bike. If you're into street riding - this bike is perfect, although it gets hot fast in stop go traffic. It's a wheelie monster and you can do some really nice slide-ins and tricks with it too. Super nimble and light! It sounds great even with the stock exhaust - You can consider saving the money, keep it legal in all countries with stock exhaust and consider the price fully optimized. With most aftermarket exhausts you gain, gain and gain. Such a wonderful machine and sadly some of the last L-Twin machines. And it's a Ducati, baby 1299s, not just a baby Panigale. And you can have a wonderful time on track or the street. No one will talk about the guy without winglets who they just beat haha! NB - IT TURNS HEADS!

As a Ducati owner, IMHO - 100% yes - worth every penny. The V4 I have is a blast on the track, the V2 seems like it would be just as much fun.
That or an R1? At the same price, I am definitely going with the R1.

The BMW S1000RR is the lightest in stock form at 197 kg wet, 194 kg wet with M options (wheels, battery...)
The Ducati dealer in NJ with the big Internet parts operation broke my new bike fever and cured me of any desire to give them money when they lied to me about V2 availability, more interested in selling the overpriced used 959 they had in stock. Thanks guys! An 848 Evo fell into my lap a week later. Then a lightly crashed '20 Husky 701 Vitpilen. Keeping an eye out for an 899 tho..

That’s because Ducati is Ducati, one of a kind designers, and one of a kind motorcycles as the V4 and the V2. They’re on top of my favorites they’re amazing no Lamborghini one is just a dream they’re outstanding to ride with these motorcycles. My dream place would be Cuernavaca Mexico City The road, and of course, Italy, like anything else in the world where his come from 👑💯💯
Absolutely ridiculously good looking bike. I aaaaaalmost got one of these but the insurance cost is a bit high for my liking, and I only do one track day per year so I made do with the Supersport. Maybe next time.

Lovely photography, great to watch, with the sound and text switched off ( it might be a personal thing I felt the presentation (intonation, pronouciation, pace, colequial expressions all really awkward to my ears, did not travel well over the pond). I thought this was built on the 959 not the 899, for the UK, as suggested here, is the US different, happy to be corrected.
Ah. Its a lovely motorcycle. But as Adam rightly said, (and I consider this a compliment), it still feels like a mid sized ducati. Which is why I'm getting a low mileage 848 and pimping it out 😀
Edit: I spoke too soon. The low mileage 848 was a corroded lemon. Now looking for a good 899 or even a 959
Yeh, after doing a bunch of research for a new bike, I keep coming back to the 899. Shame they're still very expensive for a decade old bike, but I see why. They got it so right 10 years ago. Definitely going to be worth it.
959 was the sweet spot….although the V2 is a better looking bike with the SSA and better electronics

I really enjoyed the honest review of the v2.
I compared the V2 with the CBR1000RR and I got the Honda. Because the CBR has more horsepower , cost less and the plastics feel better. The Ducati also has less acceleration but it is better in electronics. When It comes to comfort in the streets the CBR is more confortable

Can i change the oil myself at home or do i need to take it to a dealer because its over engineered?
You can change the oil yourself, but you'll need to bring it to a dealership to have the service notification reset. That notification will keep popping up every time you start the bike.

Hey, 17 and looking to getting into biking. It seems cheaper and easier then a car. Any tips or advice for me??
Start out with a used 300cc bike. I know it will suck, but you have to consider the insurance costs. Motorcycle insurance is very expense when compered to car insurance. Just rise the 300cc bike for at least six months with no citations from police and no accidents, then try to step up to a larger bike. That way you'll have some type of history that will help lower your insurance costs of the larger bike.
Also, I HIGHLY recommend taking a motorcycle safety course. That will help you. Some insurance companies also give discounts if you show evidence that you passed the motorcycle safety course.
@@slesperado I wouldn't ride without taking the MSF or getting a license first. I think insurance doesn't matter, I know a guy who gets extremely low rates for insurance so probably wouldn't be too bad. They look like they are much more enjoyable to ride than a car. I've just got little over 1k rn, so probably gonna be a fall rider to save money for a bike by then and have enough time to do the courses and get my license
Motorcycles aren't cheaper. They can be the most fun you have ever had or will have. This isn't a beginner bike by a longshot. Age and maturity is another factor. If I had something like this at 17 I may have managed to live to 17 1\4. Start out with a 300 then move to a six hundred and so on. Take your time. Do the MSF course. You have a life ahead of you. Don't be in a rush to buy something like this. Trust me, I will soon be 70 and still ride. There's a reason for that.

Jeez Adam Waheed just couldn’t stop complaining. It’s meant to be a more road balanced sports bike. It’s not a super sport and if you want more performance buy a v4. It’s worth the money , everything you need with all that you want in a sports bike.
