  • Today I take a small step toward saving the environment! I remove the 8 AA batteries that power my stainless steel kitchen trash can and install a very small 6V/2A power supply...and now it works perfectly...and, NO MORE BATTERIES!!

    GREAT VIDEO! I have this same trash can but the sticker that displays the model number is missing. I was wondering if you could share the model number of this trash can. Thank you!

    And probably didn't cost you much more than a new set of batteries to implement. Question though. Do you not have to take the amperage into account when selecting an AC adapter when doing these kind of modifications?

      No the bin or appliance will draw what it needs. all that it means is the adapter has the max wattage it CAN provide to an item if needed.

    Great video, thanks. Didn't work for me. I bought a 6volt 1 amp adapter, which looks just like yours except for the 1 amp. The can label says 8x1.5v = 120mA-500mA, so I thought 1 amp was good.
    I measure 6.4v at the set screws on the adapter plug, so I know I've put those skinny wires in correctly. Measured 1.14v at the motor. Maybe something wrong with the circuit board? Or is 1 volt right at the motor, but the motor has failed? Or is this the resting voltage when sensor doesn't see me?
    Dunno, but I now have a manual trash can. Like most of the rest of the humans.

      The adapter in the video. I found one on Amazon for $6. Will need to solder adapter to wires.

    I don't understand! 6 volts in each pack x 2 = 12Volts why does it work with a 6 volts transformer?

    • @charlescoushaine
      @charlescoushaine  Před 3 lety +7

      Each battery pack was 6V, and then they were connected in parallel, so the voltages do not add up to 12V, it stays 6V. Remember, batteries in series the voltages add up, in parallel the voltage stays the same.

    It's the batteries that are unreliable. Anytime you buy from the retailer, those batteries, are all junk and sold by retailers. The only batteries that'll last as claim are directly from the manufacturer of those batteries.
