Gafford and PJ being defensive monsters has changed the entire outlook for Dallas.
Offese was never their problem but now they have a guy who can clamp on the perimeter and 2 guys who can lock it up in the paint.

As a DFW native who watches most Mavs games. The trade deadline pick ups absolutely transformed this team. Luka and Kyrie will do what they do. But Gafford and PJ add SOOOO much to this team.
Funny how many people haven't been paying attention to the team since the trade deadline but this team if it stays healthy is a championship team. It's a well balanced team with two elite closers, this looks like the best opportunity Luka has had by far to win a chip

love to see the mavs peaking at the right time. trade deadline was huge for us, totally transformed our identity. We can compete physically and inside now and we have 2 of the best guards in the NBA. Luka playing at MVP level and Kyrie hitting clutch shots and game winners. Gonna be a fun postseason - hopefully can spoil some teams' seasons.

When you compare that with players with a 60+ possession sample size (a bit more reasonable to account for missed games) he is ranked 15th, (once again, 0.82 points per possession). Here is the kicker though. At that 60+ possession sample size, Rudy Gobert is second with 0.71 points per possession, and is in the 87th percentile, while Luka Doncic is sitting at 0.82 points per possession in the 72nd percentile. In ISO defense alone, he only allows 0.11 points per possession than Rudy Gobert, and 0.14 behind the best ISO defender in Anthony Davis. Not saying he's on that level defensively, but in ISO, he's been really good this year. It does make sense when you watch him. He is really good at anticipating drives and closing off driving lanes, which forces a less efficient shot in the long run.

@@christianwaters3437 That was my point though. This season, he has been in an ISO situation more than, and is allowing less points on ISO possessions than Jrue, Kawhi, not Mikal but it is a minor difference. The fact that he is in the 72nd percentile means he is doing excellent.

Powell and Gafford are also two different types of players. Powell is more of a Vucevic type big that can pass and play good offense but is questionable on defense. Whereas Gafford is a rim protecting lob threat like lively, which is the best kind of center to play with Luka just like how Luka was unlocked when Deandre Jordan was there

Gotta mention how the mavs are winning without living or dying by the 3 too. Kings game they popped off from 3, but the few games prior they’d been winning off points in the paint and interior scoring because they had been pretty cold from deep outside of luka n kyrie.

Well, one could say that the Mavs are finally healthy. People really don't talk enough about the Mavs injuries - although people don't talk about the Heat either. Kyrie, Exum, Green, Kleber and Lively together have missed far more than 100 games, these are either important role players or starters.

It’s nearly always their front court production for the Mavs. I agree that the Mavs are a tough out but at some point, fromtcourt presence from the top teams like Denver, Minnesota, or Celtics. They have great go and get it guys but not so much go out and make your own out there type of guys
