my perfect bike additional to my T120 and Kawa Z750 LTD Twin '81 could be this RE Bear 650. If Triumph would produce a 650 ccm Single, Scrambler 650 at a price between the Scrambler 400 and 900 i would take it.
I have a himalayan. I've had more powerful bikes in the past from street bikes to cruisers and I have to say hands down it's been the best bike I've ever owned. It's lack of power believe it or not has really helped fine tune my motorcycling skills even more and I've been riding almost 19years. This 650 scrambler looks exciting to me and is interesting. Once you understand what royal enfield is about you get the bikes. The finish is constantly improving. My himmy is 2021 and she's perfect plus she's like a tractor reliable and easy and cheap to fix. Plus I've never wanted to ride more than when I got her. The weather doesn't matter anymore and she's comfortable as hell. I actually can't wait for this new member of the Enfield family. I think you either get Royal Enfield or you don't. Triumph is beautiful but it can be hit and miss and you don't always get what you pay for. I suppose at the end of the day you have to pick a bike that is confidence inspiring and that makes you happy. There's definitely a space in the market for the 650 scrambler. Now a 650 himmy would be an exciting prospect but then again I love my 411 tractor 😊
As a new (6 months) owner of a ‘23 Himalayan… I can say that unless you live in a small town, or simply never touch a highway, the 411 is just not enough. But it’s not the motor that’s the issue. It’s the 5 spd trans. It needs ONE MORE GEAR! I’ve already upped my front sprocket by one tooth, and that did help… but a 6th gear is seriously needed. I’m looking to trade my Himi back in on an Int 650 specifically to turn that into a scrambler… but now I see RE is already going to do that!? Crazy
@@nightdrv RE have launched the new 450 CC Himalayan with an Liquid Cooled 40 bhp / 40nM single, USD forks, Better navigation pod, 6 Gears, ride by wire, etc. Being an owner of the Interceptor 650 and having tested the new Himalayan (coz my bro owns it hehe), I can safely say it's a good upgrade over the old 411 mill. The only downside is the 450 engine is slightly more vibey. I love my interceptor for everything (including that butter smooth twin) but I hate the shocks. They are just not cut out for a modern bike that weighs upwards of 215 kgs.

The new Triumph Scrambler 400 X would be my choice, 40bhp and 170kg wet. I've owned the 1200 XE, and although absolutely amazing with SP Engineering slash cuts, it was the height and weight that made me sell it. Height being the major one when you ride a lot of single track roads with off camber, stopping isn't fun. The wife owns the Street Scrambler 900 and that is brilliant fun, so no need to have 2 of them. Current bike is a Tiger 900 GT Pro, and I absolutely love it. This new Enfield will be in the ball park of the new 400 X, so would more likely to compete with that and not the more premium 900 and 1200 Scramblers.
I bought an Interceptor recently, I live in Co.Mayo Ireland and to be honest the suspension just can't handle the roads we have around here, which is a shame because everything else about the interceptor is great, the engine/gearbox etc is just gorgeous on the good roads. A scrambler version would do the trick for sure. Til then I'm sticking with my XT. Anyone want to buy an Interceptor!
As long as I can flatfoot it (a bit height challenged) I would definitely go for it! What about a Hunter Scrambler 450 w/ 6 speed ? I’m there in a heartbeat! Take care!
They just launched the Guerrilla 452 which is basically a roadster/pseudo scram version of the himalayan. 780MM seat height. 185KGS weight. 40bhp/40nm. Should def suit you...sayin this coz I share the same height limitations.
Can`t wait to this one to come out and test drive it. After many BMW adventure bikes I am done with them, but at 6.2 feet i need at least 40/50 hp and a relatively tall seat. This could be a good option. Keep the news coming! Thanks
Too right. Why did it take them this long?? Anyway, this model addresses pretty much all the gripes I had for the Interceptor. There's a suspension upgrade, the wheels and tires look spot on and will open up a foray of tire choices, and the rider's triangle looks ergonomically roomier and more comfortable. They'll shoot out the door with supply issues for some time. I'm guessing many will trade their Conti's and Interceptors and the rest of us will finally buy one.
My thoughts exactly, I'm waiting for the 400X to come out but since I'm a little on the heavy side, now I don't know which motorcycle will carry my weight better.... does a 250cc gap makes any difference?
Hi I wouldn't say the Triumph is better built .. as it is an unknown entity as of yet. The Interceptor platform has been out for tears with no horror stories..... Bajaj ....????
@@omargdbsadly with Enfield they need and extra cylinder to make the same hp. So ignore the cc size and look for HP figures... Honda 300's are 30 HP, and twins are 80.
Having owned a R9T Scrambler, a Triumph 900 Scrambler and currently a Ducati 1100 Scrambler this one gets my vote for what is probably the best for taking off road on a blast at a great price!
With the Triumph scrambler 400x being released in the UK, I think this has probably missed the boat. It sounds like this will be more expensive and heavier with only a small increase in power over the triumph. Still I suppose it's good to have a choice. BTW I own a triumph and an enfield so I wouldn't mind either.
will 250cc difference help with someone that is on the heavier side? I'm 5'9" and 220lbs.... and have been eyeing the 400X Scramble for the looks without spending that much for a 900 scrambler, also eyeing the honda 500CLX but now that this is coming out, is adding more questions to my decision, lol
Weight is also important for a scrambler. I think the triumph is really nice but I have a feeling the RE would be more fun on the dirt. Easier to toss around. Or at least I think so all depends on the weight
If RE does decide to go after the Scrambler crowd I only hope they will seriously lean the final production towards the dual purpose side of the trail. (See what I did there😳). Plenty of the street mostly oriented scramblers out there already. Huge market for the guys looking at the DR650, KLR 650 and others where something like the RE 650 could prove outstanding. Here’s hoping👍
It's going to be great. What also would be great is a 350 scrambler. As a single it would be easy to route the exhaust like the Triumph up high one pipe instead of 2 would look glorious and that single also sounds sweet.
I think the only question is why has it taken RE so long?. From what I can see, I think they might have been able to do better with the exhaust as even the cans a bit low slung for a scrambler. Also if they fall short of 150mm suspension travel more than a few of us will be disappointed. That's always been the biggest failure on the triumph scrambler 900 & why i don't ride one.
I'm not sure it will have 150mm of suspension travel, at least not at the rear as the Interceptor on which this is based has ~90mm and taking it to 150mm would increase the seat height by a significant amount..... but you never know? I'd guess something like 130mm at the rear and 140mm at the front maybe so ~40mm increase in seat height over the Interceptor🤔
It took them so long b/c Scramblers aren't a 'thing' (not very popular) in India, and India is far and away their largest market. They only sell a relatively small amount of motorcycles in the rest of the world, in places where a Scrambler might be in more demand.
So, this will fit between the new triumph scrambler 400X and the scrambler 900, it's a perfect middle point between the two, with pretty much same looks and style, although bigger engine than the 400X, will it still be worth buying the 400X knowing Royal Enfield is bringing this scrambler 650?? I'm 5'9' and 220 lbs on a good day, lol
I own the Interceptor and my bro owns the 400X. The Triumph trumps the Interceptor in all departments except engine and braking which are superior in the Interceptor (look wise both are head turners). The triumph is lighter and unless the RE do some major modifications to bring the weight down, this one is still gonna end up being a few pounds too many. If you are ok with s single cylinder mill (which is slightly gruff ath higher RPMs) then go for the Triumph.
Many, many excellent points made here, as per your usual! Thanks. One thing I look for here in the USA is cruise control. We've got lots of fairly straight highways and cruise is a key accessory, at least for me. Triumph cripples many of their bikes (both Scramblers and Bonnevilles) by leaving it off which has soured me a bit on a purchase. Maybe RE can take advantage of this bit of Triumph marketing madness.
I have tried both the interceptor and the gt, and while I was enjoying the engine, I was not happy with boring ergonomic of interceptor on one side and seating discomfort on gt (although riding gt I found a great fun, just cannot imagine riding it longer or more often how uncomfortable it was) - so this scramble may be the good answer, I am very curious to see it. And the low exhaust - I love it! my main concern with scramblers really as I mostly ride around the town, often with a pillion.
Freddie Dobbs has been really struggling to get a cylinder head gasket for his Bonneville for more or less 4 months now. So, to me it would be down to something as simple as getting parts for the bike I choose. RE have said that most; if not all parts are available for their full range. I reckon with a higher exhaust and some knobblies, the Interceptor would make a great scrambler and would be considerably cheaper. So my choice would be Royal Enfield Interceptor (modded)..............
... also un rideable, unless you're at 10k feet or higher elevation. There needs to be a good middle ground, between the 300/400 singles (~30-40HP) and the 650/700 twins ( ~70-80hp)... In a cheap, semi off-road, non plastic platform. : D
Writing from Colombia, for me it seems like another street bike, there is a retro good looking style but I can't find the Scrambler spirit in this first meeting.
They just cut to essentials, in India if RE provide it all we would just remove it all and add aftermarket parts probably a loud exhaust to make it feel like a truck on two wheels 😂😂 and I love my 350
I would like to buy the front end and the LED lights to bolt onto my 2021 Interceptor. But then, I would have to include the tubeless/alloys from the later Interceptor.
Praying to Jeebus that the wheels are a straight fit onto the Interceptor, or other parts generally now that i think about it. But particularly the wheels. And i dare not even dream of spoked tubeless. But judging by the rims on the spy shots, they look tubed. Hopefully the rims at least take tubeless tires, so that we can use a tubeless conversion kit. I seen a confidence inspiring conversion elsewhere on youtube.
I think the weight of the 650 platform is holding them back. The Himalayan 452 is almost out though. But RE being RE, they might decide to do a Himalayan 650 in the future, who knows!
@@the_winged_helm nah that can't be it, then the Himalayan 411 wouldn't exist at all. The 411 is just 30# lighter then the T7. The interceptor 650 is only 30# heavier then the Himalayan 411... Do you see where I'm going with this. All the big 1200+cc adv bikes are 550-650#
@@martykasa7864 yeah, I was just guessing. As I was saying, they still might decide to bring in a Himalayan 650. To be honest, I'm confused with RE's intent with the Himalayan. The 411 was a proper dual sport which could do road touring as well as medium off roading. The leaked power figures for the Himalayan 452 seems to suggest that one is more biased towards road touring.
@@the_winged_helm the Himalayan had good suspension & def looked good once you lost the windshield, and the upper "adv" frame & out the headlight on the forks with a cheap 5$ kit Def very off road capable, just need more power... And more brakes.
Couple of point to note here this scram is going to be atleast 15+ kilos lighter than interceptor650 because of the slim header pipes n single exhaust and wheels and suspension setup are direct copy paste from upcoming himalayan 452. Its definitely gonna be more fun than int650
My preference of this category if on a budget would be the cfmoto 700cl-x adventure/heritage which you didn't include in the video for some reason or if I had a bit more budget I'd get the awesome Yamaha xsr 700/900 - both with neo retro styling and bags of hp hence a better value for money per hp than most of these options.
1:47 Hey look they changed the position of that electrical rectifier unit. the usual under engine location was absolute garbage of a place on Interceptor 650
I need this bike. I've been waitin for it for SO LONG. USA release when? Never did understand why RE chose to put out a fleet of 350 putters in the US when we desperately need more 650+ engines.
Well I understand what you must be feeling. But RE has just started changing like 5-7 years ago, and it does take time. They have launched the Super Meteor 650 in the US now too. The New liquid cooled Himalayan will reach US in 7-8 months too. Typically bikes in the US reach 7-9 months after being launched in India.
Definitely take this over the triumph, the triumph is nice but what you get for all the extra money you have to pay is so not worth it. I love basic, simple bikes.
Ugh...hopefully it will look better when they send it out the door. It is a plain street bike with 50/50 tires. My Royal Enfield 500 would be better my off road than this heavy beast. The 650 engine is pretty heavy and low horsepower and would be better in a Himalayan chassis. I'd rather have a used Ducati or Triumph than this bland bike compared to the other 650s. It is true you get what you pay for and the depreciation on this bike will drop right off the table compared to other Royal Enfields.
Other brands do it just as much though. Thinking Yamaha R7, T7, XSR 700, and MT-07, or KTM RC390, 390 Duke, 390 Adventure (not to mention the Husqvarna Vitpilen and Svartpilen). Different strokes for different folks. If you've got a solid platform and can use it to cater to different audiences, it's just a savvy way to do business. My personal problem with the Royal Enfield lineup is that I'd legitimately own one of each if money was no object :')
@@tuananhphamcong344 Completely agree, there's nothing that really looks like the Himalayan. A proper ADV with classic scrambler charm. My personal favorite is the Interceptor. It's less unique, but I love that 60s roadster vibe!

Do you think the new Triumph Scram 400 would be the perfect fit for a decent Power n tech as an alternative to this RE which I feel will take some time for it to be launched??? (speaking out of Himalayan 450 launch experience)
I'd take that over the Triumph. The lower power and spec doesn't seem too important on that style of bike, and the cost saving is significant.

Yeah, riding the GT for long periods can be quite uncomfortable. That's kind of ironic seeing as GT means "Grand Tour."
Been looking at the Triumph 900… this might be a game changer 😮
My dealer reckons there will be an RE Scrambler in 2024, plus 3 others. Possibly Scram 450, Bullet Bobber 350 (from trawling internet)
Shame about the USD forks.. that detracts from the retro looks.. not a fan of LEDs either..
Looks good but going to get a late run off XSR700 XTribute for the lighter weight and a bit more punch 💡
Way more "punch"... Those are 75hp.
... also un rideable, unless you're at 10k feet or higher elevation.
There needs to be a good middle ground, between the 300/400 singles (~30-40HP) and the 650/700 twins ( ~70-80hp)... In a cheap, semi off-road, non plastic platform. : D
Make a video about the upcoming Himalayan 450 based Scram/ hunter/ roadster 450 please
Writing from Colombia, for me it seems like another street bike, there is a retro good looking style but I can't find the Scrambler spirit in this first meeting.
Seems close to a G650 GS pwr/wt but better sales coverage in Asia. Curious to see if people travel it
If this comes with the new Himalayan 450 speedo, I’ll be sold! My biggest gripe with the 650 twins was their lack of a clock!😂
Been waiting for the new 450 Himalayan...and now this!
Not sure about which one to get now...
Same!
If I like them when they are launched, I am buying both and getting rid of my Honda 500.
I'm hoping they use the interceptor dash. Not the awful Super meteor dash which I loathe.
I will be saving my money for this one.
I see the CL500 Honda that was briefly shown as the main competitor.
Should I wait for this before going for the interceptor?
And you forgot to tell about the show suspension in front!
I'm eager to buy this 650cc scrambler from RE!
The low silencer is there so they can easily turn this into a Hunter 650(or HNTR 650) with 17 inch wheels front and rear in the near future.
That's what I'm waiting for!
@@ferdiebeerI'm with you on that👍
Excellent Video! Finally a cool retro scrambler!
But I see a radiator grill on the front. How can it be an air cooled engine?
They need to make the 865 big bore kit a factory option.
Good video 👌 I agree you, the Scrambler model will be more comfortable than Interceptor
I hoped that RE would have made a 650 Himalayan , seems they might be missing the mark with this one imho , but I've been wrong before so we'll see😉😁
That also needs to be built as well. All the huge adv bikes are getting bigger and bigger...
15kg lighter is a very nice update
Rock the Him 452 with an S&S cam. Set! 😈
@@jasonrichardwattsnice idea
2 into 1 exhaust, though positioned low with a short muffler
My preference of this category if on a budget would be the cfmoto 700cl-x adventure/heritage which you didn't include in the video for some reason or if I had a bit more budget I'd get the awesome Yamaha xsr 700/900 - both with neo retro styling and bags of hp hence a better value for money per hp than most of these options.
1:47 Hey look they changed the position of that electrical rectifier unit. the usual under engine location was absolute garbage of a place on Interceptor 650
This is the engine from the RE hunter ( 450cc) not 650.
All I want is a 650 twin that looks like the Hunter 350. All current 650s have too much chrome for my liking.
Haven't you heard of paint?
@@ChrisParrett-qo4sx if you ain't blind, you'd notice paint isn't the only visual difference between the bikes I mentioned.
I think the 400x is more it's competitor but anyway It's the BSA scrambler I'm waiting to see!
The Triumph400X is the competition--it has 7hp less than the RE.
Still with a little more money I get 14.5 nm torque and that sweet rumbling exhaust. So shall wait for it. Was gonna buy the scrambler 400x.
It would be a nice stable mate for my Super Meteor 650.
What will be the expected weight of this bike you Think?
Are they milking the platform too much?...what do you think?... considering the future models too
RE has always milked there platform 😂😂 engines easy to open easy to close
Other brands do it just as much though. Thinking Yamaha R7, T7, XSR 700, and MT-07, or KTM RC390, 390 Duke, 390 Adventure (not to mention the Husqvarna Vitpilen and Svartpilen).
Different strokes for different folks. If you've got a solid platform and can use it to cater to different audiences, it's just a savvy way to do business.
My personal problem with the Royal Enfield lineup is that I'd legitimately own one of each if money was no object :')
@@WandelLander To me the most unique one in RE lineup is the Himalayan
@@tuananhphamcong344 Completely agree, there's nothing that really looks like the Himalayan. A proper ADV with classic scrambler charm.
My personal favorite is the Interceptor. It's less unique, but I love that 60s roadster vibe!
Great for Budget friendly, even I am also looking for New RE
i like there bikes but need to do something with there swingarms as they just look cheap.
Eagerly waiting for this bike ❤
as soon as they confirm this bike is coming to the US, i’m immediately calling the dealer and placing a deposit on this. then promptly listing the interceptor for sale…
I wish re would produce a 500cc single again. Specifically, a 500cc hunter.
Same, a 500 Meteor would be the sweet spot I crave for
Air cooled, you say. But youre missing the radiator strapped to the front. Pay attention, ma man ;)
looks great
Exactly what I want will buy
There was better looking custom scramblers built not long after the Interceptor was launched. The new Triumph 400X will probably be its bigger rival.
Why it took so long is because of COVID…and they wanted to release the cruiser variant first ☺️
Put the motor from the 535 Continental gt in the classic 350 and I'll buy one.
I would definitely go for this new one coming up. Cheers.
A response to the Triumph Scrambler 400 X?
650 Himalayan please!
Any idea why we aren't seeing any more Chrome engines in the modern classics
Interesting pics - do "Testers" ride in T shirts and jeans now - to show how cool the bike isn't?
Any news about the upcoming 750’s
RE have not announced any intention over the years to produce a 750cc.
Do you think the new Triumph Scram 400 would be the perfect fit for a decent Power n tech as an alternative to this RE which I feel will take some time for it to be launched??? (speaking out of Himalayan 450 launch experience)
Expect both very soon. Both have been testing for over a year now. Poss both could be at EICMA.
