- Fatwood, also known as lighter pine, lighter knot, and a few other names, is great for starting fires and may be your only source of a fire starter in the high mountains, especially in wet conditions or when there is several feet of snow on the ground. In this video, Alaska Matt shows you a couple quick tips to identify if a tree stump has fatwood in it and then shows you how to effectively process it down to get a fire started.
Nice vidéo, well explained and COULD SEE everything!
Great walk and hike in search for Fatwood! Good job!
Great explanation on how to find Fatwood!
thanks! It is more prevalent in other locations around the country but in the mountains at around 10,000 ft elevation, its a little harder to find sometimes.
Complimenti👍🔥🔥🔥
👍🙏
how to start a wild fire!!!
It's a lot harder to find then I thought
I wish I lived where pine was more available in the wild. Lots in peoples yards. They get mad when you start chopping on them. Same thing with bamboo.
I can't see what are you doing because camera up not down
what cant you see? Matt is working in frame for the entire video. The only thing you cant see are the shavings coming off the wood for parts of it but you see the results of that later. Let me know what you would like to see and we can make a video for that and explain what's going on.
Wonder what he’s doing, can’t see a thing
Move closer… come out to a class. Not sure why you say you can’t see when everything he’s talking about in the moment is visible.
