    One of the best $100 investments I have made. Picked it up used over a decade ago and it's great for the ambient stuff as well as a very passable Solina String Machine patch. Pairs great with my Korg Wavestation. Sadly no filter at all, and of course even the Wavestation filter is lacking. At the time Yamaha was making these units they owned Korg, and having bought out Sequential and their employees they went down the vector synth route post Prophet VS. Sequential was probably the main reason for these vector machines. Sadly the synth chips Yamaha were using in this time frame did not have any resonance in their filter design which is why no resonant filters are on the Wavestation or M1 machines. At least the software and iPad apps have fixed these shortcomings to a small degree.
    The TG33 is still worth it especially with the polyphony that ambient patches require.

    • @synth4ever
      @synth4ever  Před 5 lety

      TG33 is great for vector synthesis and can be had for excellent prices. Very capable unit, just requires some menu diving. The lack of filter is a drawback but the synth still sounds great for what it does.

    the tg-33 is a great gritty little synth,i have one that is circuit bent and you can bend the sample rate down but also cycle the waves with a patchbay input,i once connected it up to a bent akai s01 and got the machines patched together, they talked to each other!,the result was very odd cross-talking random sounds.

    • @synth4ever
      @synth4ever  Před 7 lety +4

    I have Korg Wavestation which is a big old heavy beast of a 61 keys keyboard and it has vector synthesis but you cannot use the vector joystick with every voice, it just doesn't work, it works with some voices and that is it, it's good but not brilliant, whereas your Yamaha TG33 which I have never even heard of before and I only stumbled across your video by mistake sounds great and looks small and lightweight too, I really like it

      The Quantum looks great but I haven't seen any videos that blow me away yet and it isn't cheap. I don't have any other synths that sound like the XT which is why it's a keeper(well for now).
