I'm also a RWS person. It's the first deck I used in 2004. After trying literally several hundred other decks, the RWS is the one I use for myself and for professional reading.
My preferred versions of the RWS are the Tarot of A.E. Waite by AGM Urania. Lovely muted colours and the 1910 cracked mud backs.
Also, the Weiser Tarot. Borrows esoteric elements from the Albano Waite and has better representation.
The RWS just clicks with clients - I agree with you, people relate to the pictures.

Beautifully explained :) This is mostly for short readings, I must say. Because I do use other decks for myself and clients. Thank you for watching and commenting!

I almost always use the rws when i read for others just because it is so easily recognizable, it's dependable, and the results are consistent. The Centennial is beloved by many and definitely the best reproduction ive seen. Though for some reason, I was really drawn to the Lo Scarabeo Original 1909. It has some weird printing quirks that people didnt like but its uniqueness has grown on me (apparently it's a reproduction of the Pam B, where the centennial is a reproduction of the Pam A, so the linework between the two is noticeably different between certain cards). The colorization is also a little quirky and the backs are my favorite. The standard edition is now my go-to but i also have the circular edition which is fun for directional readings.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your experience reading for others. This is so timely for me as I just started reading for others for money, and one of my concerns was whether I had brought the right decks. My context is moreso private events instead of a consistent spot in a shop, but the question of decks remains a significant one. Got lots to think about. 😊

I totally get what you mean about the RWS being iconic and a draw for clients. Even if I use a different deck, I find myself “translating” the cards into what they look like in the original Pixie artwork. I think when people can recognise the artwork they know it helps them access the guidance in the cards more easily.

It’s interesting hearing the experiences and reasoning behind the rws passion, with this layer of glamour magic too. Even growing up with/around tarot, the rws wasn’t big in the spheres I grew up in. So I never had this experience despite having readers and decks in my life. Yet, as the years have passed, and when I returned to reading as an adult, it was very clear the rws, both visually, but also as a school of thought/structure, was seen as iconic. Images fill even “normie” shops with a major arcana or something inspired by one printed onto a cup or wall hang. So it’s always felt like a funny threshold for me to see this, but have not experienced it for so many years even with tarot there.
I’ve enjoyed hearing your almost invite into why the rws. You really gave a flavour of it in your practice, and were I reading for people in person, I might have a client deck or two, separate from mine. I can imagine the energy flow feels incredibly different from the client to personal copy. Anyways, loved this chat.

    • @cosmic.creeper

@@AstralLadyTarot I'm not sure it's so much where I'm from, as who I was surrounded by. So I did see the rws from a handful, but less than others. Medicine Woman tarot was big in my mums circle of people at the time, along with mythic tarot. If I remember right, some of her pals had that circular one, is it motherpeace? Anything that was considered more "out there" at the time perhaps. Then the Thoth was quite popular with my step fam.

Agree that the RWS is iconic for pro readings. I often use to for clients who I know are newbies for the reasons you expressed. I know somewhere it is in their psyche from the collective and will help the reading, especially short ones. Had the thought that we need an iconic mass market oracle deck that could be a go-to as well. Will be fun to watch if one or few begin to emerge. Great topic. Namaste 🙏🏼🔮🪶
