A great topic,Anna. Walking my path is definitely not glamorous. Being the person I choose to be is very much about how I choose to respond,act, etc. Someone once said something to the affect, “ The longer you walk down the path” (choosing awareness?),the narrower it becomes.” A story: Years ago, on my way to work I would pass a small fountain.Occasionally, it would be full of bubbles, and I would wonder why someone would do such a thing. Not long after,I was on the phone with a friend and she telling me about her difficult day.She then mentioned sitting on the edge of that very fountain, legs crossed, smoking a cigarette, smiling at the passing traffic; while behind her back dumping a small box of soap powder into the water. She said it prevented her from doing something truly terrible. And yes.....we are still friends.

I shuffled my deck... the Emperor came out when you were talking about this person you said that you actually don't even know! During the pandemic I had to hear awful things about older people from my family who don't even know me and I couldn't figure out why they were doing that!!! The fact is that I think they don't even realize what they do! And then I thought do I do that too????

I'm right there with you, coming to very similar realizations/reflections as we begin the New Year. When you do the complicated, deep work of unraveling of your own shadows, boundaries become necessary--particularly with others who almost seem as though they'd have preferred you to remain stuck and stagnant (that's when they introduce you to the shadows of their own). You've given me a lot to think about. Thank you. ❤

Been loving these kinds of reflection videos :) It’s very interesting to get a peek into how you relate the cards to your own personal experiences, it really does always make me think. Funny you’ve been feeling like you’re entering your Hanged Man year- I’ve been in mine for a few months now as I change cards on my birthday. For me it’s coming after my Strength year, which was very challenging for sure. Feels like the Strength-Hanged Man sequence might be about moving from a time of really working with the more primal/unconscious (and so for some perhaps more unpleasant/shadow) side of the self, like really feeling it all and attempting to actively channel it no matter how chaotic it may be at times, and into a period of more… active meditation maybe? If we’ve been able to integrate some of that chaos, dial down some of the noise within us, maybe we finally become able to take a step back and take a look around for a moment, but in a way that allows us to be more active in our presence? I don’t know though! Still learning, maybe others have some insights of their own.
Also kind of fun, been wanting to work with some decks that I feel could relate to the hanged man theme for me too- been using the Albano (Smith) Waite Tarot, the one with all the wacky colours. Been really cool to see how the different colour schemes bring about new insights from familiar images. Gonna try and use oracle for the first time (just ordered the Deviant Moon Zammer Twins!!), and have been thinking about the Les Tarot Des Ambiguites deck because of all of the topsy turvy majors!! Would be interested to know if you have any decks you associate with the Hermit!

Thank you Anna. You provoked some good thoughts and awarenesses here. I appreciate your flexible and rather light graceful touch in your explorations and processings. What you shared here connected into things I’ve been looking at and stimulated some useful journaling.
I've been journaling a lot myself! But still so many little details to go through, to put into the puzzle, to take into consideration. Are you into doing year ahead spreads? I hope to find the time tonight or tomorrow or at least sometime this week 🥵 I think this is a good year to do that again. I've skipped it last year cause I wasn't feeling it... 2023 has been good but phew.. a lot of strange energies came my way! Thank you too, Gertrude
i'm hopelessly indecisive..... the grass looks greener on both sides of the fence. i can only decide things with my intuition, which always takes its own time and i can't rush it.... logic is absolutely useless to me for decisions... so... i think some people just can't be decisive and honor their intuition and their own process at the same time.
This was such a great and thought provoking video, I’ve very much just come out of a Justice year too but I’m moving into the Hanged Man for 2024 which feels interesting and timely, less in the sense of removal and more in the sense of turning everything on its head.
My word of the year is courage (decided before I realised that 2024 is a Strength year for the collective and also my annual prefection for the age I am at the moment) and my year ahead reading suggests that I might have to be really brave this year. The hanged man reminds me of my mum and holds a lot of the similar “go your own way” energy you talked about with the hermit, but for me personally I think I’ve done too much hermit-ing in my life recently (very much my natural state) and need to be closer to the action, I’m hoping the hanged man will keep me accountable to being present even when things feel topsy-turvy.
I LOVE that. Just did a client reading and this is such a theme at the moment: balancing between doing 100% your own thing and still seeking the connection. Turning away from something can be a blessing because it can grant you the full freedom to do your thing, yet I believe we NEED connection. I'm expanding these horizons, being the Hermit alone on the mountain. I need that Hermit boost, and we'll see what happens from there. THank you for sharing your insights!

Our society has pushed us to be so individualistic that acts of community can feel so radical, but at the same time we have to make sure we are actively nourishing ourselves and giving ourselves what we need so we are able to show up when we need to.
I really hope your hermit time gives you the space to find the balance and rejuvenation you need, like all the cards in tarot, it’s an essential part in all of our journeys that we’ll have to revisit time and again throughout our lives when it calls us.

Hi Anna, I'm in a moon/hermit year. I watched a video you did on the Moon and your appreciation of the card which was very insightful. I read last night that historically the hermit's lantern was an hourglass and he was actually a representation of Kronos. This hit me thinking of time and moon phases and moonlit sojourns... I was wondering what your take on the hourglass vs the lantern might be?
Could be.. it makes sense for the Hermit to be related to time. An old wise one that lives in all of us at all times. In Thoth deck we see Cerberus, the three headed dog. One head for each moment/ stage: past, present, future
