    I own a 2014 ELR, it does a good job daily. Many people talk crap about this car but if you want a commute car for 30 miles to work and back you would like it. We also use it for our tow vehicle on our Motorhome. The stereo and ride is really good. I have had no issues with mine. I buy gas 2-3 times a year. You get good performance if you drive in town in low gear and sport on.

    The ultimate luxury is not having to go to the sometimes nasty service station, not to mention the time savings. From what I've heard, most owners or Volts are going 1,000-1,200 miles before visiting a gas station. Certain people won't need to go at all.

    Some Cadillac dealers are opting out of carrying the ELR because they don't want to invest the money to buy the tools to service them. This is the Cadillac version of the Chevrolet Volt.

  • @coolich

    I have a Volt and this is a higher end of the Volt. I love my Volt and did over 30,000 km (18,600 miles) with under $500 in gas last year. I used to spend $500 a month. These cars are the future but people don't understand them so they don't buy them. They need to educate society.

  • @KLIPAMSoulRadioStation

    I attended the San Francisco Car Show in November 2014 and visited the Cadillac ELR showcase. The Cadillac ELR garnered much attention from visitors. The car is long slung and impressive upon approach. One issue was young hosts didn't know too much about the actual machinations of the ELR which was unfortunate because the visitors had many questions. The ELR uses the same drive train as the Chevy Volt therefore I question the price point ($75K) for the performance. There needs to be more information on the "charging" and "charging stations" because this is a hidden price. In conclusion,the Cadillac appears to be a good start but for the price-performance the high scale consumer will look elsewhere. While I am tempted to purchase an ELR...I cannot convince myself the $75,000 is the value-add without the performance.

  • @THEOBC2315
    @THEOBC2315 Před 10 lety

    Loved this interview! This guy did an excellent job of explaining the ELR technology in simple, uncomplicated terms that made sense to someone like me who has no knowledge of electric vehicles. I love the exterior look of this car and now with my new found knowledge of what goes on inside the car, I am definitely considering purchasing this car.

  • @Kev50027
    @Kev50027 Před 10 lety +3

    That Cadillac employee doesn't know his electric cars. First, they're not the first full line luxury brand to release an electric car. Secondly, the BMW i3 offers a range extended version with a small generator too, so he lied about Cadillac being the only one to do that. Finally, this car is just a heavier Chevy Volt.

    • @rueben44
      @rueben44 Před 10 lety +2

      He said first so calm down Beemer boy or you will wet your pants. Also it is not a heavier Volt it is a luxurious Cadillac with features and suspension design that is not in the Volt. Oh and your I3 and I8 copy Gm tech with the range extender so go sit down.

    • @Kev50027
      @Kev50027 Před 10 lety

      rueben44 Copy GM tech? Hahahahaha! That was a nice joke. No, BMW didn't copy GM tech, because GM tech is awful. The i3 and i8 range extender versions don't have a direct connection from the engine to the wheels like GM did, they simply act as a generator. Also, this car is, literally, a heavier Volt. You can call it whatever you'd like, but underneath it's a Chevy Volt that you're paying nearly $80,000 for, and it's pathetic.

    • @VeeLanger
      @VeeLanger Před 10 lety

      Kev50027 actually, so you know. the i8/i3 use the exact same tech as the volt/elr. GM designed and BMW licensed. They're both Series hybrids. #themoreyouknow and Calling this an $80k Volt is the same thing as calling a 5 series the same as 3 series because they have the same engine. AKA wrong.

    • @jeffreysegal2065
      @jeffreysegal2065 Před 10 lety

      The rep didn't lie so much as spin. The Volt- oops, I mean ELR- isn't an electric car in the classic sense. Its a plug in hybrid. The "generator" is a 4 cylinder engine that is geared to the transmission so that under certain conditions it helps drive the car, as well as its usual role as generator. That said, I think the ELR beat the i3 to market, didn't it? At least in US?

    • @eelder321
      @eelder321 Před 10 lety +1

      Before you go all crazy Kev50027 you should understand that all car makers borrow from one another. I present you this simple fact. Ferrari paid GM to use GM's suspension technology. Why do you think that the worlds best sports car maker would do that? "Because GM tech is awful"? You should know your facts if you are going to get so angry about things. wot.motortrend.com/video-find-cadillac-to-ferrari-%E2%80%93-we-had-it-first-112979.html

  • @rueben44
    @rueben44 Před 10 lety

    Boy it is just stunning!
    I drive 17 miles a day so it would be perfect and I love that it only has a 9 gallon gas tank. Hyperstrut is wonderful and when added features of adjustable suspension I'm sure make sit a blast to drive. Sat in one and examined the outside and boy it it well crafted!!! I would take this over some car that just sucks gas at 100K or even 80 for that fact.

    • @baileygarner5660
      @baileygarner5660 Před 10 lety

      more of a rip off. if you like this car I recommend you trying out the Volt. even with every option it cost less then this and in terms come with the same technology. basically all this car is, is a volt with a different exterior and interior. otherwise it drives pretty much the same. if you want a real car that will make you look good get a Tesla. way better looking, more efficient, starting price is less, safer, and comes from a real car company. gm is falling apart and can't wait to see go down. all it is, is a waste of tax payers dollars.

    • @rueben44
      @rueben44 Před 10 lety

      King Melon Sorry but I think that comment is short sighted. One the suspension is different, two the computers are set differently, and third the craftsmanship is on a different level to say the least. This is coming from someone that has actually sat and went over both in person. The Cadillac is stunning in the attention to detail. Finally I find it so weird how someone can over look the cost of say 6 series BMW Vs. a 5 Series. Or legitimize a big Bentley or Ferrari and not understand the case for this car. Biased to say the least...

    GM needs to fire any spokesman who:
    a) works in the industry and believes Cadillac produces the only electric vehicle "by a full-line luxury automotive maker" (anyone in your company ever heard of the BMW i3??);
    and/or
    b) does not realize the ELR does in fact have an engine;
    and/or
    c) believes that "you get full horsepower right at zero RPM"
    Talk about a lack of basic physics and product / industry knowledge.

    In real life the car is pretty small, think slightly bigger Chevy Volt. I remember how underwhelmed I felt when I first saw it. Currently the price is 20k off so at 54k it's much more reasonable. I'd still save for a used Tesla though.

  • @wsc31
    @wsc31 Před 10 lety

    It looks nice and seems to have the appropriate luxury features. It is the high end expression of the Volt technology. At the stated price point it will be difficult, if not impossible, to find buyers who can afford it and who are willing to pay big bucks to prove their commitment to being green. The savings on fuel, electric and gas, will have to be amortized over decades rather than years. The decision to acquire this vehicle cannot is not logically justifiable so I do not expect to see many, if any, on the roads other than in Beverly Hills or Silicon Valley.

    • @dchawk81
      @dchawk81 Před 10 lety

    • @wsc31
      @wsc31 Před 10 lety +1

      dchawk81 Actually the car I drive cost rather more than the ELR. The usefulness of the ELR is too limited for me to be willing to spend $75k+ on a "statement" car with limited utility. The ELR "value for money" is too low IMHO.
      I applaud GM for making it but I'm not buying it.

    • @overlordtico
      @overlordtico Před 10 lety

      Every city is different.
      Look at your electric bill and see how much your electric company charges you per kWh. For comparisons sake, charging an EV is comparable to paying just under 1 dollar per gallon on an ICE vehicle.
      So you're looking at savings of 3 to 4 times less when using electricity as opposed to gasoline.

  • @MrSimsim07
    @MrSimsim07 Před 10 lety

      First EV by a full line luxury automaker. Full Line means they don't just have electrics or just sedans or just coupes or just sports cars but electrics, sedans, coupes, sports cars, SUVs, and so on.
      Yeah it's marketing speak but as far as I know it's also true.

  • @funnybeingme
    @funnybeingme Před 10 lety

    First electric vehicle from a full line luxury car company? First, having a gas engine doesn't make it an electric vehicle, it's a hybrid. Second, 35 miles of electric range, I would hardly make it a full EV car. The Tesla would be a much more practical car, and it is luxurious also. He made it sound like the regenerative braking is something new in the automotive industry.
    And the most important point, it is a Chevy Volt underneath all that, that is why it's a front wheel drive.

    @overlordtico Před 10 lety +6

    Give me 100 miles full EV range and then maybe I will consider an EREV such as the Volt. 35 miles electric is just not enough and the ELR is overpriced.

    • @amunderdog
      @amunderdog Před 10 lety

      I thought the ELR and Volt were very much the same vehicle.
      Say you fill it up with fuel and do 35miles a day for 9 months recharging every day. Then you have to go visit the grand kids and it is 150 miles to get there.
      How is that stale fuel going to work out?

    • @overlordtico
      @overlordtico Před 10 lety +2

      Yes, the Volt and ELR got nearly the same drive train, but at least the Volt is priced reasonably.
      If they, say for example made a Volt with 100 miles EV range with a backup generator that can take you an extra 250 miles, then it would be a hit.
      I think 35 miles electric for daily driving is far too small. Specially in the winter where your range drops into the 20s. Got to give people some breathing room, so 100 miles all electric range would do that.
      There is also the Tesla option of going with huge all EV range. There is speculation of them releasing a kWh battery pack option that would take it's EPA range over 300 miles by 2015. 100-110kWh which Elon Musk hinted at when also talking about the AWD version of the Model S.
      300+ miles of EPA EV range with Superchargers across the country is also a very good alternative.

    • @amunderdog
      @amunderdog Před 10 lety

      Top Gear did an episode on EV range.
      It was funny.
      They ended up running out of power and could not find a charge. Then they finally found an extension cord they could use.
      But they had to find something to do for like 18hrs to continue there journey.

    • @overlordtico
      @overlordtico Před 10 lety

      Yeah and they got sued for doing the episode on the Tesla Roadster and saying it ran out of a range. Which was weird since the car was delivered to them fully charged, 200+ EPA miles.
      That's why they can't cover anything from Tesla right now, cause of that legal battle.

    • @dchawk81
      @dchawk81 Před 10 lety

      35 is okay when it's one of those gas generator hybrids. Not great, but acceptable. Considering for me at least it would save me most on the little things that kill my tank the fastest...trips to the grocery store, movies, etc. Stop & go is what really kills your MPGs.
      Even my behemoth SUV isn't BAD on the highway cruises. It's just that a loaf of bread ends up costing $12 until all is said and done.

      I think you can be wealthy and care about not burning fossil fuels though while still driving something luxurious and useful on a daily basis.
      Or you can be a wealthy douche who buys it just to look like they care about the environment when they really don't.

    Funny how he kept referring to the internal combustion engine (ice) as a generator. It seamed like this marketing term fooled you for a second. GM touted a similar marketing angle when the Volt was introduced, claiming the ice wasn't driving the wheels, when it was proven after the fact that wasn't entirely true. From listening to his sales pitch, it appears GM is still dancing around this fact in an attempt to lure green luxury buyers. Sad, really. I wish they would just tell the clean truth.

    The Caddy rep speaks in doubletalk. I could tell ya more about this car. And I'd tell ya the truth. Better off to do your homework and do the reporting yourself.

      It’s actually 8 hours at 12 amp/120V…..unless you want to spend a grand or more for an electrician to install a 240V outlet

    Overpriced and outdated. The cadillac ELR is basically a chevy volt engine with different shell/exterior multiplied by twice the price.

    Tesla Model S and Nissan Leaf are electric. No vehicle with an ICE under the hood and gasoline in the tank can properly be called electric.

    7:46 absolutely wrong. The Fisker Karma and the Smart Electric Drive both have had regen paddles WAY before this pathetic car came out. You are misinformed and clearly know nothing about electric cars so i'd advise you to stop talking and educate yourself before you speak again.
