- Do you have a crazy or rough idle and maybe a check engine light. It can be many things ranging from minor things like dirty MAF sensor to something major. In today’s video we solve a common issue on these amazing vr6 engines. Unfortunately Volkswagen uses a plastic pipe for a vacuum line to the crankcase that has a tendency to crack or go bad. This is basically a crankcase breather valve. This is an easy fix.
I used 3/4” heater hose and some hose clamps found at local auto parts store for $5. You can also replace part. I put a link below.

This actually helped my very same vw passat 3.6 v6, 4 motion car. Thanks.
It's the pcv, to replace the pcv u have to change the whole valve cover. Some people say you need to take the whole front end off to do that. Mine is acting exactly the same as urs. Just saw a vid where they plugged off the whole on the intake and ran a catch can from the valve cover. They said it worked without issue and check engine went off. Im gonna do the same this weekend.
can u post the video?
I got the same car.
Block pcv pipe easy fix.
Stuff something in it.
Otherwise Change the Rocker cover. Big job.
Lmaooo this is just too funny to me I was driving this car for the first time ever and my check engine light came on and I started bucking like crazy 😭 and this was the same exact problem
Dang man really helped me out! Thank you!
Sweet. Hope it helps. Let me know if you need anything
Top video !
Hello Sir. Thanks for video. I have VW CC 3.6 v6 very similar engine vehicle.
That Hole you were asking is there and I can here air sound comes from it while sucking air in. But I don’t remember 👂 hearing that pitch voice since my engine started up-down playing idle and first I did was replacing Intake gaskets ( 2 thick, 4 thinner gaskets and thicker ones was damaged by me closing it last time because of not properly placing.) I noticed voice after replacing gaskets and couldn’t find it. I saw it on your video and I saw that tube you replaced is cracked. I tape it issue still remains. I will do your method and let you know what happens.
What codes was the car throwing ?
The hissing noise is a broken pcv valve, big job. Did it myself but can't recommend diy it, might take like 10 hours to get it fixed
Ten hrs no way
It's a ripped membrane on the crankcase breather. They sell a 30 dollar membrane online you can buy other wise you have to replace the whole valve cover.
Really. All I could find is replacing the valve cover which makes no sense to me. Thank you so much. I will look into this. Car still drives amazing but idles bad after stopping and putting in park. Such a weird thing to me
Do you have a link to membrane? I'm down to doing this

@@OllieBeanz421 thank you so much. I was under assumption I had to buy whole unit for $400. Do you know an easy way to get the valve cover off. Or a good video.
No real easy way. Intake manifold has to come off and to get that off, nose of vehicle has to be in "service position". Vw vortex has a lot of write ups on our Passats and the 3.6. Definitely worth checking out.
What was the codes the car was getting??
That’s definitely a leak of sorts. There’s a VW tech on N22nd and Fletcher that would know about this
Replace the crankcase ventilation valve “PCV”
I have a 2009 R36. The breather hose part number listed on the link that ends in A doesn’t fit as the sensor plug is in the wrong position. I have ordered 03H103202 D
Did u find out about the seemingly air leak on the 3.6 liter passat engine? I'm having the same trouble and not sure what part needs replace
Yes unfortunately it's the pcv valve. You can get the gasket set for pretty cheap but it's a 10hr plus job that requires a lot of removal. Volkswagen won't sell you the gasket, but instead the entire valve cover for an insane price.
@@petescarport J.B. Weld the hole
Unfortunately it was an internal valve that cracks and leaks
@@petescarport So you blew a valve? or will the new valve cover fix this?
@@steveweyerts so it's a pcv valve that tears and causes car to idle poorly due to poor fuel and air mixture. You can replace the entire valve cover but that is way more expensive than just replacing the seals. Let me get the link to the seals for you. It's a very difficult and long job to do but may be worth doing if you love the car. My mechanic told me like $900 in labor for him to do. Parts are cheap
Pvc valve had to do da same thing
To fix the proble air leak is de pcv valve diaphragm that goes inside the valve cover ... easy to fix and cheap 26 dollars on ebay
Yes you are correct but from what I researched it was a very difficult job on the 3.6l motor. You have to pull off a lot.
@@petescarport unfortunately ... but if you want to correct the problem, you will have to remove several parts
