Aquaman has one of the most absurdly over the top, yet awesome visuals I’ve ever seen in a movie
The power rangers soldiers didn't do much for me but i loved the rest. They wisely used cgi on ocean masters face helm, so he would be to have expressions. Expected, but nice touch anyway.

Exactly this. Not sure if I've ever been so willing to suspend my disbelief at so much ridiculous (but fun and gorgeous) comic book stuff before :D I mean, there was that voice in my head saying "none of this works like this! I have *questions* !" to which I replied "shut up this is awesome"
Or other DC films just didn't want to go full on CB style. MoS and BvS weren't "afraid". They just wanted to do their own version. BvS is riddled with TDKR inspiration anyways, even The Death of Superman. Aquaman does the complete CB blowout because it's essential new and unseen before. So it's easier and less unoriginal then another Reeves Superman compared to Cavill's Man of Steel films.
it worked with comic villian unlike ww, and james wan knows how to do scenes.
zack snyder can do great visuals, even fight choreography, but if snyder could do scenes hed be as golden as his fans claim.

Lol i liked it to untill i really thought about it. Those crab men were just minding their own buisness and didn't want a war and while protecting their people in comes aqua man on his kraken-dinosaur and by the look of it killed a whole lot of them while fighting the other atlantians. But anyway i still liked the movie even thought it had me scratching my head going wait what at times.
It was like watching that horrible CGI battle in Attack of the Clones. Not a comparison you'd want to make.

Momoa is so perfect for Lobo. If you see his vlogs you realise how close to the character his real life personality is. I wonder how the live action version of Lobo is going to work on the Krypton tv show.

People need to stop acting like Aquaman's runtime of 2 hours and 20 mins is somehow long for a superhero movie. Venom, Avengers 1 and 2, Batman Begins are all the same length while Black Panther is 2h 25m, Wonder Woman and The Dark Knight was 2h 30m and Avengers IW and Dark Knight Rises was 2h 40m. It's an average length for a SH film.
Superhero movies that are well received are over 2 hours. Those that get trashed are closer to 1h 30min. It's almost like the extra time to develop characters and the plot does wonders for how well a movie is received. Why are people upset about long run times? Give me a great experience!

I am telling you these guys UNDERSTAND comic book people on this movie!!! I tell you, we didn't even realize how fast the time went, and it was done SOOO well. I loved all the throw back nods to the OG Aquaman, the outfit, the bubble rings when he put the trident to his forehead, the talking to the sea-life, it was great and I will be seeing it again and owning this one!!

The Aquaman movie was exactly what I wanted it to be. Was the movie perfect? No. But it was fun, kept my interest, and was visually amazing. My wife and I enjoyed the heck out of it. Thank you James Wan, Jason Mamoa and company for making an honest to goodness fun Comic book movie.
The best scene hands down in the movie is when Aquaman and Mera goes through the Kingdom of Trench. James Wan mixed the horror elements so well in that scene and I was mind blown! I know that must have been a challenging sequence to make but my god I appreciated it so much. I cannot even tell you how much I loved the final between him and King Orm. I fuckin loved it so much!

Fast and furious aquaman?
When promoting "Man of Steel," Zack Snyder said that he wasn't apologizing for Superman. I feel James Wan did the same for Aquaman. Wan didn't apologize for what Aquaman is and has always been, and made the Aquaman film that celebrated the absurdity and epicness of the Aquaman comic book mythology. And being a fan of Aquaman from the Peter David era onwards, I was utterly impressed and satisfied with what I got. I really appreciated this film and I can't wait for the sequel.

Honestly, I was not impressed by the first trailer, but the movie turned up to be really really enjoyable.

While Drago is probably his most famous contemporary role, his role as Ronon on Atlantis is where I knew him from, and perhaps that "Atlantis/Atlantis" connection is what sealed his fate?

Jackson Meade It’s not as Iconic. But it’s is definitely one of the best kisses I’ve ever seen in cinema.
The movie was super fun. The writing could have been better in spots and some of its pacing was a bit off but I would be lying if I said that I didn’t enjoy myself.
Solid B- or 7.8/10 if I were to be honest. Good movie, but a lot of script, performances and dialogue issues through out. But an enjoyable superhero film nonetheless.

I liked that Black manta lived because it made me think either Aquaman 2 or that he will join with Lex and Death stroke, but hopefully both. They shouldn’t kill off every villain. They should keep them and build on them.
Yeah I think that was one of the best parts of the movie, BOTH villains actually lived! Both Black Manta and Orm can come back in future films, and its great because since they have built up a relationship they can actually focus more on fighting and such rather than introducing a new villain! Was such a great film!

That is exactly it. You kill of the villain you miss opportunities in having them return for even bigger moments with your heroes as you don't have to spend time setting up who they are. But.... it only works on villains that are flushed out with motivations and development. Orm & Manta we know why they are ticked off. More story to tell with those two. Maybe they try and get the amazons pissed off at the Atlanteans in the next movie since WW and Aquaman were big budget successes. Imagine that insanity. :)

You know, all these CZcamsrs keep rattling on about how Justice League was such a train-wreck but that movie introduced us to Aquaman and really gave you a "feel" of what this dude was like so it really helped the Aquaman movie get dug-in so it could do so well. I do wish people would stop over-analyzing movies and just appreciate them for what they are supposed to be (like i do) and that's why i will love Aquaman.

Aquaman was a breath of fresh air. It's gaudy and silly in all the right ways (whilst be self aware of it). Also, while it does occasionally bring up some important ecological issues, it's refreshing in its absence of political overtones plaguing modern entertainment. Harmless, visually breathtaking, pulp comic book escapism at its finest. Honestly, one of the most visually unique CBMs I've seen since Sin City. It very much feels like a creative effort all unto itself (thanks to James Wan). Not trying to appease the tapestry of the franchise, but gleefully playing within in its own sandbox. I loved it.
I loved the Atlanteans sending decades of trash back to the surface to the big cities shorelines. Maybe some surface dwellers were offended but I digged it. Get that crap out of the oceans! People live there! :P
2 hours and 20 minutes felt like an hour it went by so fast. One of the best paced movies I've ever seen, not a dull moment. Loved it.

The reason Aquaman was the only one that could get the trident is because he was the only one that could understand what the beast was saying. He was allowed to try to claim the trident after showing humility about his place in the world and Atlantis.

IIRC the Karathen basically says Arthur is free to try but it won't work, no one's been able to pull it out of the king's hands.
Maybe a heavy comic book individual might know this but is Aquaman's ability to mind communicate with creatures below the deep unique to only this line of kings? If so is it strange that since the first king no one else had this ability until now?
It seems it is an extremely rare ability that King Atlan had and the trident was specifically designed with that ability in mind.
That doesn't mean Arthur is the second person with the ability ever but he is the only current known person and one who got to the trident.

stunning movie... it was beautiful. i am so happy its good because we need to get past this snyder era. This is my favorite DC movie too and that is shocking to say when the Dark Knight exists. I really hope it makes that billion. Bring on Green Lantern, hal is my favorite comic character.

AQUAMAN IMAX 3D IS THE MOST GORGEOUS SUPERHERO FILM EVER MADE...10/10 EPIC MASTERPIECE
Haven't had the chance to see this yet but the Black Manta reveal earlier this year already sold me but listening to you talk more about him in this movie has already pushed me to the theater doors.
I was just so damn blown away by this movie, I enjoyed the rest of the DC movies but I LOVED this one
Let's start off with some basic knowledge:
Gru is 14 feet tall. The actor who played Aquaman is 193, which is around 6'4".
In the start of the movie, Aquaman took a Kornet rocket to the stomach (and yes the rocket exploded), and after a few seconds he said "ow". Ow is generally said when someone gets a small injury. So assuming "ow" for a regular human is tripping, and "ow" for Aquaman is taking a rocket to the stomach, we now know that Aquaman is about 3,000x stronger than a regular human. This also means a human can take 3,000 trips at once and Aquaman can take 3,000 Kornet rockets at once. 1 Kornet rocket penetrates 1.2m of steel, 3,000 rockets penetrate 3,600m (3.6km/2.23mi). This means that Aquaman can safely destroy 3.2km/1.98mi of steel, at once, without risking his life. And I know that there was another theory going on that Gru could weaponize his dick, but let's assume Aquaman's dick is as powerful as the rest of his body, as the rocket that was shot at him at the start of the movie was only about 1ft away from his penis. I rest my case.
Aquaman was The Best DC film to date.

Aquaman was my favorite dc movie since The Dark Knight, it was truly something we have never seen in any comic book movie and was just a beautiful film visually, tonally, and the score was beautiful!!! It was also such a heartwarming film and emotional! I loved this movie and it is one of my favorite movies of all time, not just comic book movies, top 10 favorite films of all time!!!!!!!!!!! As a hard core comic book fan and Aquaman being one of my all time favorite dc characters, this is everything I could have asked for and wanted in an Aquaman movie!!!!!!!!!!!!

Halfway through the movie, I realized i hadn't stopped smiling since the beginning. And around the time the kaiju kraken comes ripping out from under a lord of the rings battlefield i thought to myself, "Forget comics, its like im watching the movie version of an epic underwater Dungeons & Dragons campaign! Cheesy moments, fun action, worldbuilding, and genre references included!" Like Critical Role on the big screen. I loved it. Also can i just say, FINALLY the ocean gets some love in this movie.
I was actually surprised Aquaman was a joke cause I only knew him from the DC 90s and forwards cartoons which were awesome. Also FYI go even further back and Jason Momoa came from Atlantis in Stargate hehe.
It's like Stargate Atlantis WAS his audition for Aquaman. Imagine the director and producers of this movie watching old clips of Ronon Dex pissing all over Rodney McKay... yeah there's our Aquaman... and he's already been to Atlantis! - lol

Ha ha LOL yeah go back to the days of the super friends and tell somebody that one day they will make an Aquaman movie and it’s going to make $1 billion. As a 38 year old child who grew up watching the super friends I can definitely tell you I never saw that coming. Also don’t knock yourself you are a very talented filmmaker the convenient store and the mall are two of my favorite places to go and if you wanted to make more I’d totally be down for mall rats two or clerks three.

Vinnie Chase's Aquaman beat Spiderman's opening weekend numbers! People forget so fast.
I was sitting waiting for the movie to start and suddenly I was reminded of vinnie case's portrayal of aquaman and how successful it was. How it was played as a joke in the sense it would never happen. And there I was, actually about to watch aquaman on a movie theater.
Mera doesn't go after the trident or attempt become queen because she does not have a right to the throne like Arthur does. As you noted Arthur is Queen Atlanta's son and Orm's half-brother. Presumably, Queen Atlanta is the blood descendant of the legendary king of Atlantis and Orm's father married into the monarchy, this is the only thing that would make Arthur's claim make some amount of sense. Also, Mera assumes only someone who is in the royal bloodline can use the trident, leaving Orm and Arthur as the candidates. Of course Orm cant get it so she leads Arthur. If you switch Arthur's role with his mother Atlanta, you would still have Mera as a guide. Its not that a man needs to save the day, its that a member of the royal family has to, all other members are presumed dead or evil with the exception of Arthur.
More fun than every other DCEU movie combined. I'm ready for Shazam!
the fight with black manta in the 2nd act is the best part. I'd love to see a rematch in the sequel
The most impressive thing James Wan did was to tell this story without making it feel like a Black Panther knockoff. I don't mean to diminish what Wan did, it's just that these are very similar stories, so making this feel unique must have taken some work.
I was super worried about this movie being a cheap knock off after someone did a side by side comparison of the trailers. And honestly, it's going pretty much through the exact same beats as Black Panther (down to the music choices... so yeah, even these beats...).
I was so happy that the movie turned out to be something else entirely and I thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was. :)
Except the story predates BP by 20 years.

Loved Aquaman! It's my third favorite DCEU film(behind BvS and MoS). Not sure where I'd rank it in the grand scheme of CBMs, but it's an awesome film that I can't wait to see again.

Yes the world building is fantastic. Aquaman is a franchise within a franchise like GOTG. I wouldn't mind three or four sequels of Aquaman. I'm also hoping Thor gets another sequel because Taika Waititi created a whole new world for him as well.

I wanted a real filmmakers comments . Personally , I had no problem with the length . But then I'm an old dude. I remember when movies had intermissions. Also I agree that you can see every dollar spent on the screen. Very refreshing . Glad to see you are doing so well. YOU ARE STILL " THE MAN " .

Black manta did not look stupid. He looked totally badass and menacing like crazy.
Admittedly, I was very worried about this film going in. I hated BVS with burning passion, and Justice League was just trash.
But I loved Aquaman. Saw it in IMAX and almost cried.
For the record, that entire desert scene, and the scene where they are walking out of the water like super models to a Pitbull song, needs to fuggin go.
It was like Wan thought he was making a fast and furious film or something. I was like what the f* is this now?
Other than that the movie was lots of fun, and very well acted by the cast. Visually stunning, really good fight choreography.
Wan put the pitbull song there to purposely make it silly fun, parodying it almost. Thinking that he somehow thought that it'd be a genuinely good positive song to add makes sense as to why you "with a burning passion" hated BvS.
I was getting some indiana jones during the exploration through italy and stuff. That music totally broke the mood

But for real, it went Ring of Fire fight, ship chase, fake dying, hiding in a whale, the music scene then in a plane, jumping, landing, talking and falling, the Kings last message then Sicily.
Dude, the scene where he wakes up on the boat, before the trench men attack, a great Kal Drago nod. Hair up, seaweed as gauntlets. Dope.
Zach Snyder made a lot of bad decisions about the DCEU, but the casting was something he got absolutely right. I even liked Batfleck and Jared Leto's Joker. My main beefs with Batfleck were with the writing and directing, but Ben Affleck's performance was all anyone could ask for given the material he was asked to work with. And I flat out don't understand the problem people had with Leto's Joker. I thought it was an interesting take on the character.
I agree with you, I just don't like Joker's 'design' look. I love Leto's acting, his laughs sent shivers down my spine in the cinema, dude can do ASMR for sure lol

if kevin taught me subjects when i was in school, i would've actually learned and remembered things. That would've been so good.
it'd be awesome if he took subjects and explained snippets of them. i could just listen to him for hours saying things (which i have) and it seems to go in and stay there for some reason. it's amazing. He's obviously a wizard.

Aquaman 52 had the best Aquaman stories and art and that limited series when he had his own team of superheroes, the movie was good.

You said it when you mentioned Black Manta’s and Ocean Master’s visual depictions being precise, albeit with tweaks. The same goes for Arthur’s armor closely resembling the classic Aquaman costume. Great stuff!

serenityq26 solid B- or 7.8/10 movie. An enjoyable film, with great effects, and a well directed adventure. but there’s lot of lacking script,
performances, and dialogue issues hold it back from being anywhere near an A level film. It was a fun ride. Still think Deadpool 1 is the better overall film over Deadpool 2, quality wise.

XOVO In MOS Superman is in the interrogation room with Lois and he explains to her that the S on his chest means hope on krypton. Lois says that is looks like an S and suggests that maybe it should stand for Superman. But before she finishes the sentence she gets interrupted because that's when Zod starts terraforming the earth into krypton using the world engine. So it really was lois who first came up with Superman's name.
Well it is a better name than Fishboy/Fishman... and using his real name would be bad.
