Motorpsycho is phenomenal! Sure, they're not the most innovative boundary-pushing band out there, but what they do, they do well. They sit in a unique place where on one hand they have super groovy, palatable, catchy riffs, to latch onto, but they also do plenty of interesting stuff with production, layering, and more experimental psychadelic elements if you want to dig deeper. They do this both within tracks and sometimes a track leans more to one side of the spectrum. And they're the kings of extended guitar solos that shouldn't work but do.
While the 40-minute track on this album is also great, I'd recommend checking out a few songs from other albums first to get a nice variety, as all the albums from "The Death Defying Unicorn" to their most recent "Yay!" are really good.
Just what I need! Another rabbit-hole! Gee thanks. Peace & Love.
Justin's tormenting us, and our wallets!
Motorpsycho are fantastic! I brought them to the US in 2002 to play a festival I organised. They kicked serious ass.
They never stick in one genre for too long, either. Check out the track "Go To California" from "Phanerothyme" for total upbeat pop bliss... you'd never guess it was the same guys who put out the absolutely crushing "Starhammer" from "Heavy Metal Fruit". They are fantastic, no matter what they do.
I love Motorpsycho!!!! So good!!!!
This is a fine amalgamation of tuneful melody, adventurous instrumentation and quality songwriting. Plenty much more to explore with Motorpsycho as this is perhaps one of their more mainstream tracks. Note the involvement of Reine Fiske - usually a stamp of quality for any music of which you're unsure.
Motorpsycho are great! Every album has a little different character. And there are a lot of albums.
Quality. Definetly intrigued to hear more of it.
I feel the same.
Wow you did Motorpsycho!!!!! Their history is so varied and Norwegian band whose lyrics are 98% English yet they have no following in English speaking countries!! Early days grunge then alt rock then psychedelic pop then country then prog then hard rock and stoner rock since last 12 years. They do at least 2 albums a year. Amazing sometimes not great other times but they keep going and their live gigs are intense affairs. You feel like you are on lsd so mesmeric
Like them a lot. From my hometown.
I love the psychedelic vibe, and those vocals are right up my street. You hear Floyd, whereas i'm getting The Beatles. Definitely want to hear more!
Oh…and that 40 minute epic is PURE GENIUS!!!!!!!!!
Evening Justin. Dave from Across The Ocean. As you say, this is a promising start to the album. Love the interesting chord progression, and the psychedelic, slightly mystical feel to the song. Yet another great band from Norway and, yes, I'd really, really like to hear some more!
P.S. My song ref Across The Ocean is by another terrific Norwegian band, Meer - at the pop end of prog.
Never Again by Dodgy
Prog Pop at its best. 1994. This sounds like one of their songs. But Dodgy's harmonies were beautiful.
I'd be happy to hear more of that. Another one to the scorecard of Norway. I think they're winning whatever it is you win by ... winning ... whatever it is.
I also like romantic Norwegian songs with lyrics like, "Simone! Would you sleep with my friend? (He's alone) ... "
OK, I suppose that's not really romantic per se. It's more like filled with the spirit of mercy and love in a broader sense, maybe? Like giving to almshouses and orphanages. Very blesséd. So then not really that far from romantic?

Try The Death Defying Unicorn - my favourite of what I know!
You have to listen to “Vortex Surfer”, the Motorpsycho song was voted the best Norwegian song of all time and played on repeat on a radio station for 24 hours.
A Nowegian band I discovered in 1994 (On My Pillow and some other, on EP). Curious, very slow and heavy, and a bit boring (my personal impression at this time).
Always in the same mood, no?
Not dreadful, it just sounded a little old hat, considering out in 2020. I was hearing Focus, genesis, Yes, get my drift.
Yep, it's not bad but there's nothing exceptional about it, it sounds like something you've heard before somewhere else.
@@a.k.1740 Aye. Heard before, and quite a few times :)
Have to agree with you. Its been done already.
@@paulcollins5586 I suppose they show their influences a bit too much, that said, it's not easy to get rid of them in the first place, but hey, the band has been around for a while and they could have done something more personal by now!
Goes on a bit too long. No change. Typical prog.
