One reason why I like your channel (apart from the thoughtful reactions!) is that I am often surprised by what you react to, which is great. I would not have thought that you would react to Motorpyscho in a million years. I enjoyed the twists and turns of this track. I wonder what's next?

I wasn't sure where the song was going in the beginning. But it developed into a pretty good song. First time hearing of the band as well.

❤ Spot on analysis, you two 😀
Motorpsycho indeed came from alt-rock in the 90s and have become increasingly psychedelic/proggy from the 2000s onwards. Nowadays they are rated as an 'eglectic neo-prog' band - however, classic prog fans sometimes find them too 'heavy rock', while heavy rock fans find them 'too arty'.
They've got shorter concise rock songs, and space-rock tracks that very much work with such repetitive build-ups. Don't drive to this, you'll get a "tunnel stare" 😄

An excellent Norwegian band. They kind of wander around in the territory between prog, stoner, and rock. “The Tower” is the album that I first discovered. They have a huge discography, and I’m far from having heard it all, but I like what I know.

Happy discovering. I actually noticed them first when they were in their 'hippies meet indie-rock phase' via the single "Go to California", which is so absolutely different from this or what they currently do. I love most of their stuff!

If you prefer progressive stoner rock, go for everything they did from 2010 onwards, especially the albums 'Behind the Sun', 'The Tower' and 'The All is One'.
If you like alternative-/indie rock go for some of their material before 2004

If they are brave, they react to the N.O.X. suite from The All is One. No seriously... do it. It shows them from their proggier side. Imho their last couple of records showed them on the peak of their career.

    Well,
Coming from just listening to your 2nd go with this band "1st". If I heard this one first, I may have not come back the 2nd time. I LOVED the intro, and then when the vocals came in, it sounded like something I would hear on a College Radio program, but more of an "Alternative" genre (almost "Shoe-gaze") . . . but then became too repetitious, where the 2nd reaction track was more focused (for "Motorpsycho") and heavier, but still odd and super interesting that I would venture to find more of that "era" of the band. So I get where Nick, and especially Lexi was coming from about this one. But I get why Lexi likes it more than Nick and me, because of what she likes listening to :).

Pleased that you got around to Motorpsycho - they're one of my favourite bands ... although I wouldn't necessarily have chosen to start with this track. In general I prefer their more proggy leanings; for example, my first exposure to them was with the epic album The Death Defying Unicorn*. In general, in terms of what I enjoy listening too, for me they have got better and better as time has gone on. Despite having a very distinctive sound the band's output is quite varied and it's worth dipping in and out of their vast back catalogue of releases to find which era suits you most. My recommendation for what to listen to next would be Gulible's Travails from the album Heavy Metal Fruit.

    • @murdockreviews
      @murdockreviews Před 2 lety +2

🙂 I tried to start with a track that showed the band still with their alt-roots, but already becoming more prog. Apparently not the best choice 🤷‍♂️
"Gullible's Travails" is epic, but also unfortunately way too long for a request, and maybe rather intimidating as a first entry.

I've known Motorpsycho since 2006, they've been frequently on my eclipsed samper CD. I have to admit, I never became a fan, even though out of the 10 songs I know, there were some good ones, but then there were others, which I didn't get or they didn't get me. Motorpsycho cannot be categorized -. which is good, because you never know what to expect. Murdock, I know, that we have many matches in our taste, but when it comes to music from Scandinavia, there are a lot bands, that I prefer. And since Nicknlex cannot react to them all, I will make a little list including the albums I like:
Airbag - A day at the beach (Artrock/Neoprog)
Amorphis - Queen of time (melodic death metal)
Avatarium - The girl with the raven mask (doom metal)
Communic- Waves of visual decay (Prog/Thrash metal)
Soen - Tellurian (Progmetal with former Opeth drummer Martin Lopez and a great singer Joel Ekelöf)
    Wheel - Resident human (Prog/Progmetal)
and if someone prefers some beautiful prog, then you should listen to Mystery from Canada - Lies and Butterflies is an excellent album

Good song but not up there with their best imo.
This is from 2008 so 14 years old now. Since 2010, they've gone more into Prog, classic rock and psych and away from grunge,
Their latest album, Kingdom of Oblivion, came out last year, and leans heavily on the 70s sound, particularly Sabbath.
Try The Transmutation of Cosmoctopus Lurker, very psych Sabbath
Oh and the title track is ace too
