- In this video, I show you how to remove the "guts" from your left shifter if you want to run a 1x11 Sram set up. I also install the guts in another brake lever to show you how to convert a previous 1x system into a 2x11 setup.

Thanks for this. Was able to take the shifter from a Sram Rival 22 Mechanical and put it in a Sram Rival 1 Hydraulic left/front lever.
Thanks for the video/tutorial. I got stuck transplanting the internals from a S series 2x into my Force 1 left shifter and this saved me. Thanks again! Subscribed.
Thanks for the video. I have just converted my 1 x 11 Force to a 2 X system with this "hack". I used a GX front derailleur which worked fine and swapped out the Force 1 rear Derailleur for a GX 2 X 10 speed one. It is Exact Actuation shift pull ratio so works really well with the Force levers.
Oh that is awesome! I was unsure it would work with the GX front derailleur but that is great to know it works. Sounds like a sweet set up you have. What bike did you put it on?
@@BlackWaterCyclist it's on Lynskey GR 300.
Great video Billy. This very useful just for servicing the shifter too. Thanks!
That's brilliant Scott. I should have mentioned that as well.
Excellent tutorial. Helped me convert to 1x, thanks.
Awesome! I am glad you were able to use the video to help you out. Did you find it very difficult?
Thanks for the in-depth tutorial! I'm sure i'll be watching this a handful of times lol
Thanks Cameron! Hope it is helpful for you.
@@BlackWaterCyclist Wondering if you might know - would the internals from a rim brake Rival 22 left shifter and hydraulic Force 22 left shifter be compatible? Tried doing some digging in parts catalogs but couldn't find any info.
@@cameroncook9450 yes they are both interchangeable. The older 10 speed stuff is not interchangeable with the 22 stuff.
FYI, an alternative to the 90deg tool is sticking a spoke in from the front, through the brake cable holder in the top of the lever. I was able to push the pin out that way.
Very useful video. It helped me Convert my Sram Rival 22 hyd to 1x. I did not have those picks, but I have found that the shaft that holds the mechanism together, has an inside thread. I have screwd a metric screw inside and pulled out the shaft with it. Thanks for the Video!
Hi Laszlo, glad it was beneficial for you. Yes I have actually since learned that trick and it is WAY better than the pick. I appreciate you adding that in the comments for others.
@@BlackWaterCyclistDo you know what size screw you used for the HydroR shifter?
Thank you! super helpfull, I have a graveyard of Sram HydroR shifters that I'll be able to combine to make a working set.
Awesome! Yeah it isn't a very popular video but I have done this several times in the past and figured someone could benefit. Thanks for watching and reach out if you have any questions.
Awesome video thanks. So from what I can piece together, any 22 speed sram front derailluer shifter internals should be interchangeable into any 1x shifter, regardless of hydro/mech brakes?
That is exactly right.
Hi, I know this is a bit of an old but I'm looking to have a go at this and have a question. The potential purchase is a rival 1x hrd and secondly a new LH lever blade kit which judging by the kit picture it doesn't have any parts that a shift cable will slide into. My question is, does the standard 1x lever have the drum in it already that a shift cable can slide into? Or will I need that piece?
How would you remove and install the brake lever on a SRAM Mechanical Hydraulic shifter? By the way, love all of your Ratio Tech videos!
Thanks Nick! It's fairly simple to remove the brake lever. It just uses a "C" clip to hold the pin that the lever attaches to. There is a reach adjust bolt under the lever that is a 3mm Allen key size. You screw that in and the lever will start moving away from the bars. You want to basically take that all the way out. Then remove the "c" clip inside and you can use a punch or screw drive to lightly hammer the pin out. There are a few videos on CZcams about it. I may try to make my own next time I service one.
@@BlackWaterCyclist Thanks I’ll try that!
Thanks for the video. Can this conversion work for 1x rival hydraulic shifter if i have 10 speed mechanical brifter internals? I want to add a shift paddle on my left shifter to control a dropper post on my gravel bike.
Yes it can. It should work perfectly if you have the left handed internals to put in it. You can also put 11 or 12 speed internals in the right shifter if you ever wanted to upgrade.
@@BlackWaterCyclist I put the internal in, but i made a mistake. After i slide the center pin that holds the internals, i don't think i tensioned everything properly and now it doesn't shift. I tried taking the center pin out, but there doesn't seem to be an obvious way to take it out. It looks different from the mechanical shifter.
thx
Hey do you happen to know the weight of the force lever without its gut ?
I cannot remember off hand but I believe it was about 35 grams less.
Not sure if it relates to this video, but maybe someone knows if 10spd Sram Force HRD shifters ever existed or its only S-700 HRD that was 10spd? In my understanding, all Force HRD levers should be 11spd. I've bought a pair of Sram Force HRD shifters, but the seller listed them as 10spd. If that's true, is it possible to upgrade to 11spd w/o replacing the lever?
From my understanding, the only 10 speed HRD shifters were the S-700 S series shifters. Your Force that you have ordered should be 11 speed unless the seller put a 10 speed ratchet in there. You can also check out my video here and go ahead and upgrade to 12 speed if it is in fact 10 speed. czcams.com/video/km-ZBY67-Eo/video.html
@@BlackWaterCyclist thank you for quick reply! Do you know where can I source a ratchet only? By the way, the best way to tell 10 or 11 is to feed the cable, pull it and count clicks, right? I've researched the topic of 12spd conversion. Appears that my frame (current gen. Specialized Crux) has incompatible cable exit (straight out of dropout) according to instructions
@@samarskyrider Yes but be sure you count the first space as 1 gear, if you do not then you will only count 10 when it is an 11 speed. Check out my latest hack where I actually go 12 speed with this system. You can buy a 12 speed ratchet from Ratio Technology and a cassette from Sensah to have a 2x12 speed system. czcams.com/video/km-ZBY67-Eo/video.html
@@BlackWaterCyclist thank you! I've counted 10 clicks +1 initial position of the derailleur. Appears to be 11spd shifters. Your video is spot-on, but it may not work for my frame due to minimum requirement of 7cm of cable exit to the dropout. At least, this is what's on Ratio technology compatibility list
@@samarskyrider if you are going to use it on a road rear derailleur then you do not have to worry about that spacing for the cable to the rear derailleur. That is just needed if you are going to use a mountain rear derailleur.
it works on hidraulic levers please answerme am in real trouble
Yes it does. 👍
