  • A complete overhaul of a Sram Force 22 shifter. The process would be the same for any 11 speed Sram Apex, Rival or Red mechanical shifter. The video is pretty detailed and long, so I've included time stamps for each process.

    This was a very thorough video. Thank you for taking the time to make it, Joey. One question: When threading the cable in, should the lever be in a certain position? Like equivalent to largest rear sprocket--1st gear, or equivalent to smallest, 11th gear? I'm having problems getting the new cable in. It goes in, then gets caught on something further in, does not exit the shifter at the cable hole.

    • @JoeyMesa
      @JoeyMesa  Před 4 lety +1

      The shift lever should be in the position of the smallest cog in the rear and smallest ring in the front. Same with removing the cable. These are the positions where all the slack is let out of the cable and the hole in the ratchet ring is facing out.

    • @SteveSpinella
      @SteveSpinella Před 4 lety

      @@JoeyMesa I guess I'm going to take it apart. Something is not right. Perhaps the shifter lever is broken, as you mention this as possibly resulting in not being able to hold on the largest one or two cogs on the rear cassette, and this is what prompted my interest initially.

    Hi Joey, Thx for this great vid. A question for you: i broke 2 or 3 teeth of the internal piece you call the "chip mechanism "- with the red plastic piece where the cable puts in... do you know if this piece - that I couldn't find as spare - is actually the same in other 22 double tap shifters? mine is a red HRD, and I wih to buy a far less expensive second hand rival (no hydro) shifter to collect the part. Would that work? thx again!!

    Hi Joey, I've watched most of your force 22 videos and appreciate the content. I'm in the process of building a 1x 12 road bike with either force mechanical utilizing Ratio's ratchet/jockey wheel conversion kit on force 1 type 3.0 rear mech or complete 1x12 force etap axs. Going etap will cost $400 extra and both groupset comes out to 2100g. Can you give an opinion on which system will give better serviceability and longevity say 3-5 years?

    • @JoeyMesa
      @JoeyMesa  Před 3 lety +1

      I don't have any experience with Ratio's conversion kits, but the concept looks very intriguing. I've used both mechanical and SRAM AXS stuff quite a lot the last few years. My last demo bike had Force AXS components and I never had any issues performance wise. I made a long term video on the bike and my opinions on AXS at that time: czcams.com/video/dijiiKmDkWI/video.html
      Other than charging the battery (which I did forget to do a few times), AXS will require less maintenance, is easier to set up, and is easy if you're going to potentially swap between AXS road 12 speed cassettes and Eagle 12 speed cassettes. The Force AXS shifters sync up to any AXS derailleur very easily.
      I could see some situations where mechanical shifting would be more advantageous, like a long bike packing cross country adventure or something. My demo bike I have on order has a 1x Force AXS drivetrain with an Eagle 10-52 cassette, But my beater commuter bike is still going strong with the Force 22 shifters set up 1x 11. The Ratio 12 speed conversion ratchet would be a sweet upgrade at some point though.
      My answer would be that I don't think you'll go wrong either way, but for the additional $400, I'd lean more towards AXS.
      Thanks for the question and feedback!

      @@JoeyMesa I appreciate the detailed feedback. I have ordered the Force AXS upgrade kit. Will go with either 44 or 46 1X chainset with 10-33 or 10-36T cassette. Another question, I noticed that on most store websites it'll say medium cage compatible with 10-33 or 10-36 but on Sram's own website it says Force AXS medium cage can be paired with 10-28, 10-33 and 10-36 can you confirm who's giving the correct info?

    Hi Joey. I only need to replace the small carbon shift lever (part# 11.7018.005.001) on my Red22. SRAM says you can do this without disassembling anything else than the lever itself. In this video you replace the whole shift lever assembly. Would you do a quick video with your old Force shift lever to show how to disassemble/assemble the paddle ? Thank you
