I do the exact same thing for the f&p eson nasal diffuser. The Eson-1 is much easer to changer out - but it is an older nasal model, now Eson-2. When they discontinued the Eson-1, I bought several head-set assembly's and replacement cushions from Amazon and eBay. 👍🏽 Dennis!
Thanks for the fix. I'm finally getting to switch from the P10 to the P30i and the Quietair vent struck me immediately as a poor design for the user but a great way for Resmed to make money selling more nasal pillows. This fix is great.
I would not place the old filter on the new filter material while cutting it out because you are transferring germs from the old one onto the new one. Fabric material like filters shed microbes easily. A great idea making your own! I would just ‘eyeball’ the shape/size instead of pushing the dirty one onto the new one. Cheers!
Would it be so bad if you simply removed the filter and just placed it back in with just the plastic? That way it can simply be rinsed and it probably diffuses “well enough” without it… might increase the perceived “leak” I haven’t tested it but probably it can overcome it.
@@AdventureswithCPAP my next thought is maybe plugging some of the holes with crazy glue (with the filter removed) - it may create a whistle noise though not sure! Also probably needs to be done with care to make sure no water pockets form in case it got wet.

Dunno about the rest of the world, but I'm guessing the reason they're not sold separately in the U.S. is because most CPAPers are going to get a replacement mask from their DME every month or so.
Mine was dirty. I took the diffuser material out and hooked mask up to the machine without the filter material. The little piece that holds the filter is still there. The little holes diffused the air and worked fine. Is this okay, or is there some pressure problems.
Mine started whistling when i exhale. It was driving me nuts. Turns out the whistling would go away if i gave it a new diffuser. This design is ridiculous..... i think the new diffuser doesnt have any gaps in between to allow for taking out filter. .......
Since it's for the air going "out" I would leave off the filter. A filter covering the CO2 out holes bothers me. You don't see this on other masks and they always warn you not to have anything at all blocking the outlet holes. IMHO it is breath moisture collecting around the holes that eventually either molds or air pollution. Yeah, it bothers me they are covering the outlet holes at all. The only argument I can conceive of that would be for the filter would be good incoming air (and pressure) being kept from escaping out the holes and hopefully diverted to being breathed in. But is that really so?
Well, no. The nasal interface being shown here is from the P30i. It's had the QuietAir vent all along. In recent months, ResMed has released a new N30i that uses the same QuietAir vent design.
@@AdventureswithCPAP I'm holding a N30i mask in my hand that I got from my vendor. It doesn't have the removable quiet vent in it, it's a single molded piece of plastic. The reason I noticed it is because the ones they mailed me weren't the same as the one that came with the machine which do have it. Same part number, though. I like the ones without the removable filter better. They don't come apart voluntarily in the middle of the night.
Yeah, a lot of vendors are still cleaning out their stock of the old N30i. I'm guessing what you got was the original design with the vent holes. When I was still using the 30i, I did this about once a month. I've since gone back to the Philips DreamWear Silicone Nasal Pillows, despite my hatred of Philips, because it's just so much more comfortable.
I believe private insurance is to blame in the U.S., although I can't speak to anywhere else. Here, the gear replacement cycles are insane compared to other places. I think there's the assumption that you'll just be getting a new mask next month, so why bother? In Australia, I think there's the assumption that you're going to clean your CPAP gear regularly and try to make it last at least six months.

Yeah, I just couldn't handle the hardness of the Resmed anymore. My nostrils just wouldn't toughen up enough. Funny, though -- my time with the Resmed made me appreciate how soft the Philips is! I tend to get about six months out of a nasal interface. I wash it literally every day, so I'm not concerned about germs. As soon as the thing looks anything less than new-out-of-the-packaging, I replace it.

I clean mine in an ultrasonic cleaner every week, same cleaning solution as i clean all my mask bits with and seams to clean it pretty well.

Have you tried pasting the new filter on the outside, if the only point of the filter is to diffuse the noise?

Tried that! Unfortunately, it didn't work. The machine thought the mask was off my face entirely and shut down after a bit.

How does the mask function with no filter material?
It doesn’t. The machine can’t maintain enough pressure to know that you even have a mask on.
If it's just for exhaling air, not sure you even need a filter in the vent. Once the filter material gets dirty, remove it, clean the plastic vent and you should be good.
Tried that. Not only is it incredibly loud; the machine reads it as a large leak. The opening is simply too large without the filter in place.

When I was still using the 30i, I did this about once a month. I've since gone back to the Philips DreamWear Silicone Nasal Pillows, despite my hatred of Philips, because it's just so much more comfortable.
You know you are breathing out warm moist air that could develop mold or mildew. Maybe removing it every day to dry may help
