That is the first time that I have ever seen that switch. We are back up and running. I wasted lots of batteries trying to resolve this issue. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much! I just randomly thought of our Costco bin and after months of leaving it off, we now realised all along it was not a battery issue rather the switch you just referred to. Thanks again 👏🏼
You just saved me so much money! I had a not-so-nice replacement in my cart online. Decided to see if anyone else was having this issue before I hit purchase. Voila-just like that, problem solved after months of being annoyed. Thank you, thank you!!!!!
Was having the same issue and did everything but couldn't figure it out. Thank you so much for putting this out there. Solved the problem in 2 seconds 👍👍👍👍👍
lol. You have to be kidding me. Having the same exact issue, contacted customer service and no mention of that switch. Thank you for posting this video. Mine is not fixed.
This was very helpful! Initially it didn’t work;so, I changed all batteries, did reset, and then turned off both buttons. Once I turned it back on , held down the closed button for 5 seconds and it worked! Thanks again!
OMG I have been trying forever to success and I push that little button and it’s back up and running thank you so much much appreciated for teaching this
I was SO excited about the secret little switch but still not working with sensor, only with touch open and close, but great video/report and happy it worked for most! it was fun having hope for a few minutes. I have new batteries, cleaned everything, reset. Maybe it got water or something on it. It is in my vacation rental so anything could have happened. Again thank you
I have a different model from Costco purchased a few years ago, but this one also has a second switch which is Easy to turn off unintentionally while cleaning. Thanks for the tip!
We've had this for a number of years. Ours now gets stuck going down. Opens fine from the sensor, but half way back down, it stops. think I need to open this up and clean out the hinge area. Maybe some food particles are stuck.
Had the exact same problem. I saw the two pictures at the bottom of front of the lid. I figured they were there for a reason but what reason? It would be nice that there was an arrow pointing to the switch.
Thank you for this so useful video 🙌👏🥳 Now that i saw it, i see that the intermitent light when it’s closed is normal. I discovered something at the beggining it was flashing down and after fix it that up. So i can imagine that this flash is a reminder (before your video, i was about to ask a swap 😅) So a big thumb up for you !!!! Thank you
Elk and Kohler are nearly the same item. Mine did the continuous flashing light issue and I tested the batteries which were low so replacing the batteries fixed it. Two weeks later the top stopped working with no lights. Peter Dana’s channel showed how he fixed his trash can. It turns out the wire connecting the unit to the battery pack failed. Thought that was pretty random but I opened the top up and sure enough the wire had come loose at the connector to the battery pack. Popped out the battery spring and broken connector. Soldered a short piece of wire to replace the failed section. Put it all back together, installed batteries, and voilà it works!
@@in2meuc168 Is it really too much to ask that the Troubleshooting section in their instruction guide should have included a mention of this Sensor switch? I've cleaned this lid how many times!? And it took a video to find it. I was about to go Godzilla on this thing. I loved this video tho. Thank you!
I have 2 of these and one started killing new batteries in about 4 days, and it also had a couple LEDs out/dimming. I figured the 2 issues might be related so I took apart the lid and desoldered the bad LEDs, standby currently went from about 30mA to reading 0mA. Problem solved, fix took about 10 minutes, internal assembly is very simple, hard the screw up.
I have the exact same trashcan but in black. I know about the switch. My problem is that the after changing the batteries for the first time it worked for a couple of days then stopped. I checked the batteries and found all 6 to be depleted. I put in a new set of batteries and the same thing happened.I used Energiser batteries first time and Duracell batteries second time. The batteries just die in a very, very short time! Any ideas what could be wrong?

Not sure what it could be. I have found that when sticky dirt gets around the rim, the lid gets stuck and has a difficult time opening all the way. If you haven't already, check to see if grime around the lip of the lid is making the lid stick. Hope this may help.
I tried the switch, fresh batteries, and it still doesn't sense motion. I can open and close by touching but that defeats the purpose. Any other ideas?
What I have found is that when my lid has that problem, I have to clean around the rim where the lid-flap comes down and touches the can. A lot of times sticky stuff gets on the rim and keeps the lid from lifting up. Hope this helps.
