I enjoyed England's win over Scotland much more than the previous two victories for the simple reason that the back three scored five of the tries, and what tries they were, particularly the team effort finished off by Dow and Breach's dazzling run for her second. Remarkable statistic: Breach, Dow and Kildunne have now between them scored over 100 tries for England, and they're all still only in their mid-twenties.
Really excellent reviews, thanks! I appreciate you identifying the players you felt made key differences, as many of us don’t get to watch all of the games on a weekend. And also your willingness to identify the negatives and gaps is spot on. Great analysis 🙏🏼
Previews sound reasonable, with one coin toss. 👍🏼👍🏼💪🏼💪🏼
(Love the Honeybear 😂😂)
Thank you - glad you enjoyed it. At least one dog will end up in most videos!
Great commentary and sensible previews.
❤
Thank you!
Great video Kat. 👍👍👏👏❤️
Glad you liked it!!
@@KatMerchant always like rugby chat and analysis. I’ll look forward to your next video 👍👍👍😊
Was nice to hear your commentary on the France match!
Thanks!
Comprehensive 😊
Thanks!
Very pleasing performance by England, but I'm worried about the cards.
Agreed. Even though they've said they aren't worried hopefully there's been a bit of a convo about it at least.
@@KatMerchant I know Brian thought they must.
A few years ago it seemed a question of when France would raise their game against England to win it.
Now it looks more likely that somebody else will raise their game to take 2nd place off France before that happens.
Do you think that is other teams improving or France not hitting their fully potential?
@KatMerchant Bit of both really. The standard is coming up and France are consistently French. No other team could lose to Italy and then only come up 1 point short of a world cup final weeks later, or go 33-0 down to England, and then win the 2nd half 33-5.
I'll be having the sort of nightmares that keep Kiwis awake about the mens 1999 RWC if they are terrible in the 6N next year and get England in a QF.
I still feel England have another one or two gears in attack to go through. Still some sloppy errors (appreciate weather was bad) but defensively immense. Botterman is world class and the player of the tournament (Kildunne may have a shout) but also think Maud Muir looks exceptional at tight head. Matthews has quietly performed
Well in the back row. Lots of positions open for debate though, lots of squad depth.
If I put you on the spot and ask for your strongest starting XV for England who are you going for?
1) Botterman
2) Cockayne
3) Muir
4) Aldcroft
5) Galligan
6) Matthews
7) M Packer
8) Cleal
9) L Packer
10) Aitchison
11) C McDonald
12) Heard
13) Jones
14) Dow
15) Kildunne
But 9 is on, I’m not sold on any of them. At 10 I prefer Aitchinson as she releases our electric backline more than Harrison, but Harrison is more reliable off the tee in big games. Rowlands is also such a brilliant play maker, but we need a crash ball 12 and Jones looks amazing at 13.
Ward in second row is also brilliant option but Galligan seems to have physically improved . I’d keep Kabeya as an impact sub.
Your team?
Amazing that they say England have a discipline problem, it was one player only, over eager to make a mark on her return. And her yellows were borderline, did she do all the lifting, that was two players ? was her contact in any way dangerous for the second card ? just like Lucy Packer's yellow against Ireland, did lucy really prevent a try, two huge pack's in a wrestling match, and we are supposed to believe that a relatively light scrum half, collapsed the Irish pack. It's funny that we extrapolate ref's decisions into gospel or cannon, not a discipline problem more of a capricious referee problem.
those wert two of the softest yellow cards ever given. No foul play at all, just two 'rugby incidents' ie things that happen in every game. The same flaky referee who was sent home from the last World Cup, and a TMO with little understanding of what can happen - luckily the result was no affected but this is becoming a repetitive and frustrating problem that needs addressing soonest.
I thought they were fair. I do however agree that inconsistency in applying these across the game is frustrating.
Both occasions down to 14, both occasions won to 0. Amy Cockayne out of the game for ages, rugby equivalent of ring rusty, let's not look for a pattern developing.
I don't think she looked rusty at all. 2 reds in 3 games is worrying though. Against top 2 teams this might get punished more.
