- Olympic gymnast Lance Ringnald analyzes the beam skills and and beam routine of Olympic champion Svetlana Boginskaya with split screen comparison, slow motion narration and graphic insights. Her style, elegance and presentation was legendary and set her apart from the other gymnasts.
Totally agree! A truly wonderful gymnast! How I wish more gymnasts would/could emulate her balletic elegance!
Svetlana’s floor was unmatched, risky and just gorgeous. Moving art. But she was a great all arounder too. True icon.
Yes, she was. Just elegant all around
Thank you for your analysis! I completely agree. Her floor routines are also a joy to watch; she's so expressive! Hope to see more avant garde choreographies like hers today!
Definitely one of my favorite gymnasts ever!! She was such a dancer, every movement was elegant and gorgeous.
She had grace, elegance and true style.
She is a living, iconic legend. Even though she’s of our generation of athletes - 15-25 yrs old during the 88, 92 and 96 quads - the athletes topping the elite and NCAA world love her still. And, not unlike all of my gymnastics idols - you included, Lance - she’s generous and kind and really just amazing.
Awe, that’s very kind. I feel grateful to be part of such a cool generation of gymnast. All my best.
One of my favourite gymnasts, an effortlessly elegant performer who I was delighted to watch competing in England. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed. Thanks and my best.
I love Svetlana's style too. Absolutely iconic! She's one of my all time favorites.
She definitely had her own unique style and I was competing in her generation and I thought she was just as great then as she was when I did her analysis. Really just my preferred style I think and elegant to watch.
Fantastic CZcams channel! Please could you analyse Aurelia Dobre 1987 and where she would rank compared to the Seoul trio Shushunova Silivas Boginskaya ?
That would be interesting. I will put it on my list. Thanks. Dobre was elegant also. They are more part of my generation so I am more familiar with Them. My best
I haven’t forgotten. Just got a little busy lately, but I still plan to analyze Dobre as she was very elegant and champion. Rock on.
Bogi was elegant and beautiful to watch. The only thing I did not like was her cowboyed double back.
Yes, that seem to be her only obvious deduction and skill that lacked an effort of perfection. I think she prioritized sticking. Thanks and all my best.
MERVEILLEUX J ADORE MERCI + A
Very interesting, thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Pleasure and glad you enjoyed it.
Would you consider doing Shannon Miller? Her artistry is often mentioned but she was also super powerful. Just a great talent. She’s one of my top 5 favs. (Lilia Podkapayeva is another request)
Thats a very good suggestion. I am friends with Shannon and she may get a kick out my analysis of her haha. I will cover Shannon within the next two weeks. Thanks and my best.
Could you do a video on Tatiana Nabieva? Especially her bars
Thanks. I have looked into her a bit and she seems interesting so I will research more. I may analyzer her next and it would be out sometime before the end of the week. Thanks.
Those front tucks would be a .3 deduction nowadays
Yes, the rules always change more demanding haha. My best.
Another great video. That's interesting you got to spend time with her. That must have been pretty cool in that time period of the Cold War, fall of the USSR, etc. I remember that era, everything from the USSR seemed shrouded in mystery. The Soviets had great style throughout but Boginskaya always stood out. Supremely talented. Also had a trademark way that she landed, with one foot in front of the other. She competed in 3 Olympics under 3 different flags: USSR, Unified team, Belarus. There's a weird video with her and Nellie Kim, around 1993, after her first retirement. It's a French TV show and the old guy on there is super creepy. He looked at her like she was a dinner plate. Some of the questions they ask are pretty bad like "why didn't you win?" Some of her comments remind us how things were back in the Cold War, as she made a comment about Worlds held in the US saying something like, 'the American judges love their gymnasts'. Very different era. She definitely put the art in artistic gymnastics.
Thanks for all the insights. Yes, it was a different time. It was the Soviet era and they were much more stoic. On tour, they all loosened up more, but the girls were watched closely and not as social. Because we were teaching each other language, we became friends. I haven’t spoken with her for a very long time, but I imagine her perspective of America back then in America now and that evolution. It must be interesting. So many friends of mine from the old Soviet union coach in America. It’s amazing how things evolve overtime. The Soviets were my icons of that time and the guys 8018 was one of the most dominant in history. Svetlana was part of an incredibly strong error as well. I’m grateful to have gotten to known many of them well. I feel there’s a mutual respect. Thanks again and all my best.
I liked her but Lilia Podkopayeva had the best toe point EVER!
Oh, that is a good one. Good point - no pun intended. She did have excellent toe point. Thanks and my best.
True, but Svetlana’s toes were at the end of legs that went on for ever!
Her lines are so long !
She deserves to be ranked with Olga, Nadia, and Mary Lou! She was not only beautiful and elegant, but she put the Woman back into Women's Gymnastics!
Her beam was very lackluster, especially compared to her contemporaries.
I think she had adequate difficulty but exceptional stile and presentation
