    If you lightly damp a rag and go over the edges of the frog tape it's designed to seal the edge to prevent bleed.

      The problem is it still isn't a crisp edge. A cut line is best if you want perfect edges

    Great question. I used a Dremel with a thin solid cutting bit. It's noisy as all get out, makes a mess and not too much fun, but it gets the job done with nice results. I start each hole with a body reamer.--Matt Higgins

    almost 4 years down the road and still totally relevant to painting bodies. I wish I found this video when I painted my first. I basically did everything wrong. I used inferior masking tape instead of liquid mask. I used the edge of the tape as my edge, resulting in bleeding because I also used a heavy first coat and caused the runs he warned about in this video.
    Luckily, up on the drivers stand all of those mistakes are irrelevant and it still looks pretty. it's not until you take the beast back to the bench that all her flaws glaringly shine.

    Exactly. Clear Lexan bodies get painted on the inside. The clear body works like a think clear coat and makes the finished paint job to come out really glossy. Having the paint on the inside also protects the paint.--Matt Higgins

    This seems to be some good information. I feel better about starting my first (RC) paint job now. Ironic that I hardly thought twice before spraying my real car (In a booth with proper tools, of course) but I haven't wanted to risk ruining a $25 lexan RC body. Small scale, single piece, and multiple layers/colours make it seem more daunting.

But the first didn't town out as good because painted it yellow ( which ran because yellow is a very runny colour) and then it black so in some area it turned out green not yellow. Plus I used masking tape but this time as you know I've ordered liquid mask. But hopefully I've learnt my lesson an want mess this one up. No, on a Lexan body, you should only use Lexan or polycarbonate specific paint such as offered by Pactra and Tamiya. That said, there are two hardware store brands of spray paint that have paints made specifically for plastic. These will work, but will not be as flexible as needed and will not bond as well as needed. you can use those in a pinch, but Lexan paints will always work better. Also, do not mix brands because not all brands are compatible.--Matt Higgins

  • @RCTruckStopVideos
    @RCTruckStopVideos  Před 11 lety

    When I need to wash a body after masks have been applied, I use a lint free towel and rubbing alcohol. Avoid the window masks. The towel allows you to control where you clean as opposed to washing the whole thing. Just make sure the cleaner fully evaporates before painting. Thanks for watching, commenting and GOOD LUCK. Send us pics when you're done.--Matt Higgins

    If you painted the real deal, odds are you'll do fine. The biggest mistake people make is to put the coats on too thick. Light coats equal good results. Oh, and the colors go on the opposite that a full-size multicolor paint job would be sprayed. With Lexan, spray darkest colors first. Good luck and thanks for watching the video!
