    Do what works! Taking action vs preparing or reading about the thing will always be the better choice. Also, you’re right. We should all chill a bit.

    • @hashemdalijeh

      i'm so agree with *action* part !👌

    • @PhukPKummings
      @PhukPKummings Před 4 měsíci +4

      I disagree on this, taking action with little to no knowledge seems like you'd spend more time and energy trying to figure something out if you have no idea what you're doing. I'd rather spend some time reading about something and watching videos then tackle the assignment without out understand what I'm doing. Idk how people can do the other way, I guess it comes down to how fast you can understand and comprehend things.

    • @t5381
      @t5381 Před 3 měsíci +5

      Yeah taking action highly depends, when implementing some new parsing algorithm from some papers you really want to read the papers through first etc.
      Of course, do start at some point. You don't have to fully know how everything will be implemented (e.g. in your specific programming language) yet, but do at least know what you are working towards and have some understanding at a high level.

    • @cody_codes_youtube
      @cody_codes_youtube Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@t5381 @LocustHordeElite
      Yeah, I mean, I understand the blanket absolute statements usually will make me look dumb. I think there is just some level of always asking yourself if reading or "preparing" you're doing for the task honestly has direct benefit to what you want to accomplish. It's rare that someone is assigned to put in a new parsing algorithm. 99% of coding should use standard libraries and established patterns. Rolling your own or being too creative will quickly draw down on the ROI of that level of in depth research. Yes there are exceptions, but the advice applies to most

    • @t5381
      @t5381 Před 3 měsíci

      @@cody_codes_youtube That's fair. I mean it's true that one can always refactor their code afterwards, or fix minor implementation problems after having written some code (and thus having gained more understanding by doing).

    Listening to my favorite music is the sauce that makes starting enjoyable. When it gets distracting and i want silence to think about stuff i just... turn it off. And i often forget to turn it back on and i just continue in silence with my headphones on. Do whatever gets you in the zone and having a geniunely good time. Focus, remove distractions, but keep it fun. Productivity is a deeply personal thing which you have to carve your own way of, not to force yourself down the path others carved.

    Personally, I usually like complete silence while coding/learning because my thoughts just feel clearer. But sometimes when im in the zone i will put on Prime in the background, or even some CS lectures or medieval plain chant (theres this awesome channel called "musica medievale" that posts some really amazing stuff, especially music/lyric poetry of the troubadours). Im not really engaged in it, but its nice to have some "white noise" in the background.

    I've been studying with two types of music:
    Classical music when it's time to read documentation or learn theoretical concepts.
    Action movie/videogames soundtracks when it's time to code.
    Now my brain relates coding/studying with having fun and discovery, it's been a game changer.

    I recommend trying to notice if you are being distracted by your music, like, you are focusing on parts of the songs, or you are stopping what you are doing to find another song often. Breaks in you mental focus on a programming task can really build up, but what breaks that focus will vary from person to person. I like to effectively have a randomized playlist of familiar music that's at least a few hours long.

    The answer is simple. It depends. For some it can be really distracting, for others it can help then get more focused, and some use it to get motivated, etc. Though not all music works the same way, and there is some personal preference in there too. For example: some prefer calm music in the background, some prefer music with lyrics, and others can't have lyrics in there or it will distract them, etc.
