100% agree with Gary about the format, when the Euros only had 16 teams the group stages were so much more exciting and higher quality - letting x number of 3rd placed teams through with this 24 team format creates a load of dull and tedious games. Teams like England, Netherlands and Italy shouldn't be able to get through the groups playing as crap as they have.

I think both the old format and the new format have their own appeals. Now there are more games to boil the competition down to 16 teams, which makes the games to go from 16 teams to 8 teams more important (the round of 16, just one game. In the old format that would be three games). We've essentially just shifted tension away from the qualifyers to that extra round. Considering smaller countries now have an opportunity to enjoy participating under the spotlight, rather than obscurely in the qualifyers, i suppose I slightly favour this format.

And goals are a like drugs once you try it you are hooked, playing alongside Rice Puts him far away from the opposite goal.
So the thing here is wether Jude is OK to play deep or not, knowing if he wants to make history he needs to score goals.

Holland didn’t get battered, and they also made wholesale changes to their squad and still almost managed to get the same result as us (a draw, but actually scoring) against a much better side than us.

Anyone that still thinks Jude is a natural 10, needs their head tested. I’m pretty sure Gareth is catching on, too. He must’ve have a word with Jude pre-game and told him to vacate the central space more, and allow Foden to come inside, ‘cos he spent a lot of time out on the left, but even then he was clueless, he’s just not a forward line player, you can tell how awkward he is operating along the line. There was a couple of times where Foden, Palmer & Mainoo were playing one touch the edge of the box, as soon as they involved Jude, the move would break down, he’s just not on that wavelength, he’s way better at driving forward, being penetrative and direct. The only thing Jude done decent last night, was a slide tackle (which people said he couldn’t do 🤦‍♂️), and drive forward with the ball once from the centre circle, in the first half, gave it to Walker on the right and a half chance was fashioned, but he’s absolutely not a 10.
