- Welcome back to Stick to Football, brought to you by SkyBet. This week we have a special guest episode featuring our very own Roy Keane in the hot seat.
His former teammate Gary Neville and fellow pundits Ian Wright, Jill Scott, and Jamie Carragher are joining him. The former Manchester United and Ireland captain starts the episode by discussing his youth career, sharing how his time at Rockmount and Cobh Ramblers set the stage for his move to England.
Roy dives into his relationship with Brian Clough at Nottingham Forest and reveals the inside story behind his move to Manchester United, including the dramatic twist that nearly saw him join Kenny Dalglish’s Blackburn Rovers.
The seven-time Premier League winner reflects on his illustrious career at Manchester United, shedding light on his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson and his departure from the club in 2005 before revealing which European giant he could have joined before moving to Celtic.
Finally, Roy shares insights into his managerial stints at Sunderland and Ipswich, as well as his assistant managerial role with the Republic of Ireland team, before answering your community questions.

Roy Keane is the best guest button
I'm not sure he's a button, is he?
That's his job 😂😂
Not a guest but anyway
Nah, not imo, his analysis is too repetitive
Only truthful pundit
Roy is a confident yet very very humble guy. Always giving credit to others, shy’s away from calling himself a legend, a great and a real team player
His Q&A about the modern day transfer fees of his United teammates was especially sweet 😂
"van Nistelrooy?" "A billion"
"Giggs?" "Two billion"
"Roy Keane?" "...3.75 million 😊"
@@EyebrowsGamingthe measure of the man is 💯
Won everything but so humble about his achievements
He's humble but he also has a nasty side to him, which is why he was so good
Don't worry- he knows his worth as this shows
A Legend and from the best era in football 🙌
Roy and Wrighty never fail to kick off about the lack of raspberry mini rolls
The production team must do it on purpose!
The plain ones are not the same
@@sorryforabsolutlynothing roy is that you?
One of these days they will have raspberry mini rolls and it won't be the same show
No I understand their pain, everyone knows the raspberry ones are the best……. Even better after a spliff 😂😂
60 minute video, 50 minutes of Roy speaking. Well done to everybody else just letting him tell it all. Loved this episode.
Glad you enjoyed it! 🤝
Roy Keane what a legend on and off the pitch has made my monday. So happy overlap continues even when season is finished.
ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!
100%
Can’t agree more
Imagine Roy was your best friend 😊
@@-BBPH what a dream
"As a young fella getting paid to be a full-time player, I thought I died and went to heaven. I couldn't believe my luck". This is definitely an attitude that has been dead and buried for a long time now.
no it's not, older fans love to say stuff like this based on zero evidence - watch the tribune or any number of interviews with young players expressing exactly the same sentiment
@@usxnews1834I can see in the way they play mush, you're talking wet
It's not though is it?
@@agathacathartese7041 yes, it is.
Young players today pay more for a haircut than what Keane was on at Forest.
Growing up as a kid in West Cork, I read 2 of Roy Keanes books when I was 10 and 11 and he's been a hero to me since then, a huge inspiration in my life. The hard work, determination, professionalism, are all things I've carried with me as I have grown up and it has helped me achieve some amazing stuff in my life with much more left to do.
Proper Legend
i spend alot of my childhood in west cork on my family s farm, sadly due to econimc crisis at the time my mother moved to england..i returned to work in corjk city in 98..all the guys i worked with were from roy s estate..he d turn up in the pub sometimes,no airs an graces ..just one of the lads...good luck

Wish it was a longer show. Could listen to Roy for ages. Down-to-earth man considering his considerable achievements - maybe that's why - his hardest marker is Roy Keane.
Don't worry he'll be on next week as well
Whoever that scout is, thank you for giving us Roy Keane!
Noel McCabe.
Lovely to hear Roy mention Paul McCarthy. He was an absolute rock for us (Wycombe). Our FA Cup run in 2001 that culminated in playing Carras Liverpool wouldn't have happened without him. From important, game-saving goals to last-ditch defending. For Roy and Paul to come from there at the same time, they certainly made them different in Cork. Rest Well Paul McCarthy
Love Keane and what he represents. Holding on to resentment only effects one person and that’s the man in the mirror. I’m terminally ill and I have resented everything until I didn’t. It changes nothing other than you. Forgiveness is the greatest gift you can ever give yourself. Amen
good luck fella God bless you
Good luck pal 🍀🏴
Well said and good luck with whatever is ahead for you brother
This could easily have gone on for hours. Roy Keane is the prime example of players we need more of in today's football world.
Not just players, people with a bit of backbone.
Jamie was spot on when he said it's sad that two legends of United don't get on. It makes me sad too, Keano was my favourite player growing up. Brilliant episode as always ☘️🇮🇪
All it would take is a genuine apology but when you have two bloody minded individuals it is near impossible to get them to that point.
It's a bit like Liam and Noel Gallagher isn't it. Such a shame we won't see them make up
Fergason is a bully . He did the same to becks . Stam and a few others.. that's still the problem in man utd that he's still hanging around the club.. Keane should have been back there at least as a coach of the last 10 years put Ferguson but never let that happen😢😢
Constantly praises the people that were around him more and never forgets anyone. Class guy 👏
Roy legend not only for MAN UNITED,but for football generally. The definition of a captain, leader on and off the pitch. Also amazing sense of humour.
Completely agree a true football icon 🙌
Loved this. For those that didn’t watch Roy, he has this hard man reputation, but people rarely talk about just how good he was. He dominated the best of the best. Viera, Zidane. He did the simple things, but he did them better than anyone. One of the best passers of a football i’ve ever seen. Usually always forward and in to feet. They don’t make them like him anymore.
Great seeing how Wrighty and Roy are proper buddies - I think Wrighty is a great, positive influence on him. Gunner myself but there’s no denying what Roy was and in different ways still is. Phenomenal leader and player.
Love Roy’s mindset. It’s just so elite. Not enough players have it today
Getting Keane and Fergie into the overlap room and to sort things out could be the greatest ending to the story there could be. It’s the ending we need
Sir alex on the overlap next to roy keane will absolutely break the internet
Never gonna happen. Keane hates Fergie and rightly so.
That would be brilliant.
@@honestjohn7513But it won’t happen, they already said it.
Yeah I know it won't, even if all parties involved wanted to I don't think fergie is fit enough these days
This could have been a 2-3 hour special. Roy has so much to offer in terms of insight, how football really is behind the scenes, current football setups and of course sprinkled with his humour. Great episode.
I could listen to this legend of a man talk all day . His story telling is perfect 👌👏 my icon Roy Keane 🎉
The Keane/ Wrighty bromance will never not be a mood raiser for me. So unexpected hahaha.
Same. And I'm gonna play the witcher again because of your pp. Cheers
13:55 - Roys dads was Maurice "Mossie" Keane. The locals in his hometown in Cork called him Sterling Moss coz of all of the money(sterling) Roy would send/bring back (:
mossie was banned from loads of bars..Roy build him a house as far from a pub as he could in cork city...not an easy challenge😁
Best approach. Low maintenance in the workplace, high maintenance in the negotiating office.
Hahahahaha Roy was never low maintenance anywhere. Still a diva and primadonna
Gotta get Thierry on this show man
Why
@@pjoseph5950because it’s called stick to football and he’s the greatest PL player 😂

@@pjoseph5950 because he'll slap some sense into them
@@Collier990RHCP yes he is one of the best but he is pretty boring person so if you want to see him, he is on CBS.
Life is quite simple with Roy. Respect, loyalty, hard work.
What a man. Loved having him as our United captain. Legend of the game!!
This show is like therapy. You just log in to this world where football is the game you always wanted to be a part of.
It’s crazy how much money is in football nowadays. Roy talking about asking for £400k before joining United. £400k is about £870k today which is £16k a week😂….. Eddie Nketiah is on £100k at present for context..
That's scandalous
Whoa
Decent players at United on more a week than Keane was a year..
It IS absolutely crazy!
Jesus.
“He apologised” the look to Wrighty 😂
Here we go!! The most funniest show so far is here.
I'm rooting for Roy's brawl memories on the pitch 🤣
Wasn’t funny but very informative
The bromance between Wrighty and Keano is some of the most wholesome things I've ever seen. Almost opposite characters to each other but they do love each other and truly are best mates.
Love the Overlap, loved the interview and I can't wait for when you guys upload new content ❤
Glad you're enjoying it! 🤝
Such a brilliant player. Very candid about how he was treated. Absolute legend for the club.
I met him when i was a kid at Forest and he was class, people made out he was unapproachable but he was a gent. My first ever autograph!
I mean wow. This is by far the best episode of stick to football. What a Legend! Always stood by his values. He is a great leader and example.
One of, if not the best Overlap ever. Well done Roy. Well done everyone.
Roy's professionalism and standards kept United at their best which in turn made every other team have to raise their game making for some of the best rivalries in PL history
That and they spent the most on players and Fergie intimidating and bullying referees

14 mins in and I’m loving this already! “250 sterling!” 😂
There’s a story that Keane’s father (Maurice, often shortened to Mossy in Ireland) used to get a few k in sterling sent back to him from Roy, when Roy got his pay rise from United in the early 2000s, so the locals dubbed him, “Sterling Moss”.
Hahahha brilliant @@TheLastAngryMan01
Brian Clough according to Roy loved players that could head. It makes sense now that Clough wanted to sign Kevin Campbell after watching him in reserves. R.I.P
One of the greater midfielders in history. Exceptional vision, drive, intelligence and passion. Modern players lack his desire to win.
He understood the psychological requirements of being consistently successful better than any other player I can think of.
More Roy Keane’s are needed in today’s society. Top guy.
This is the best episode of STF yet! I could listen to Roy for hours, he's a genuine, honest bloke.
People will say it's because I'm Irish but Roy Keane is enthralling to listen to
As a kid growing up in Ireland, my team played Rockmount in the Munster seniors , his Brother was the big thing down South , Used to love going to Turners cross watching Ireland Youths , now living in America for the last 20 years I appreciate Roy career becoming our Greatest ever player , and probably the best player in the World in 98 99, unbelievable one man team that drive Ireland past All time great Hollander teams and Portugal to get us to a World Cup and then McCarty causing a civil war in Ireland, the whole Country shut down over Roy over Saipan , it was crazy , absolutely insane how one man drove our country, he was our modern day Mick Collin’s !!!!
I despised Roy as a player, but I've grown to like and respect him as a man
He was a brilliant player for United and their fans, the rest hated him so much
It is the highest respect given when it comes from the enemy.
why he was brilliant
Why was he brilliant you ask. Because of his work ethic and leadership qualities for the club and his country. Respected by his teammates and his opponents alike.
@@user-mn1vz5ew7ono he's asking why the hate ? It's because he was a wind-up merchant
Roy Keane is just amazing. Honest, humble. man/
Love listening to Keane. He's a great story teller
Ive seen Keane on the ferry a few times, I've always wanted to approach him, just to say hello and thanks for everything he did as a player at united, i didnt want to be rude. Im not from Cork but i lived in Cobh for 5 years and loved it, Roy is just typical of the people, friendly and helpful would have a laugh with a strangers but do wrong by them and you will never forget it
I flew out to Cork from Manchester. Scholes and Butt were on the plane, I looked it up and they were doing an event that weekend. I didn't want to go up to them first thing in the morning and peck their heads so I left them to it. I know what you mean about wanting to say something, especially as being a ginger lad they were my heroes 😂.
Out of interest, what ferry is that? Not Liverpool to Cork, is it?

Huge respect for Roy. Best guest in the show so far.
It was nice to hear his side of the story about his time at United.
No matter what you think, Roy deserved a lot of respect and he will be the best captain for United in my lifetime.

Unbelievable player. True leader. Legend Keano!
I worked in Cobh and what a beautiful little place it is. The Titanic's last port of call. Every building on the sea front were all painted in a different colour. Then overhanging the hill was the Colman's Cathedral. This was such a site to behold. All in white stone. Amazing little place.
Absolute heart and soul of a great team. Bit of me died when he left , never the same
Best guest ever! I could listen to Roy all day. He should have his own podcast just chatting about life, it would be amazing.

Roy Keane is the best pundit on the whole television without a doubt
Roy listening to him handle 2-3, 4 conversation in the room and doing it effortlessly - he's got a different processor to most people. He's a much smarter cookie than I realised.
It has been 18+ years on since Roy left Man United abruptly and I still have not got over it. For me, Roy Keane will always be the greatest proper Man United Captain in my lifetime.
I really want to see some former players from other teams outside Liverpool, United & Arsenal being guests - would love to see some legends like Jay Jay Okocha, Di Canio, Shearer - maybe even Toni Kroos after the Euros!
They'd have no chemistry at all though? They don't know each other or even speak the language. There's a reason they get some of their friends on

No ads particularly for the Roy Keane episode. Standards 🔥
I love hearing Roy keane talk about Brian Clough ❤ people talk about Pep and rightfully so, but Brian Clough was the original Pep. He literally changed the game from the top level down to grassroots.
