SUMMARY
--------------------
No matter what your job is, over the length of your career, your network and it's health and strength is going to be your single greatest advantage in succeeding in your career.
Sure, a lot of you starting now have some smarts, a good job, and are willing to work hard. All that sets you in the right direction, but over the long-term, over a multi-decade career that simply will not be enough to be truly successful.
My 7 Key Success Factors for Business Networking
There are two areas I want to review about networking: what makes it successful and how to actually do it! So, letâs review my seven key principles for how to do it successfully and then a five step plan of attack to execute those principles.
1. Itâs an all-the-time thing.
2. Give value first. Take second.
3. Give more than you take.
4. Do it live.
5. Do what you say youâre going to do-build trust.
6. Move it forward and expand their network.
7. Build a systematic plan that allows you to execute.
My 5-Step Plan to Build a Healthy Professional Network
A. Set your networking goals.
There are many, but letâs talk about four:
âą Educations and advancement of your knowledge
âą Camaraderie
âą Job hunting
âą Grow customers, partnerships, etc.
B. Build your relationship map by doing your research.
C. Identify 60 to 100 people you can connect with who can help you meet your goals.
D. Prepare standard messages you can modify.
E. âEâ is for execute.
Adjust your plan according.

Andrew LaCivita real estate
What sort of relationship maps do you suggest? Thanks Andy!
Andrew can you make a video on references? For example when your former bosses refuse to give or be a reference due to company rules/laws? Thanks.
How can you text and resonate with people about our business without sounding salesy?
what is business networking really?
Great advice Andy! The topic of networking always reminds me of my favorite quote from you: "It's not what you know. It's not who you know. It's who knows what you know."
LOL. That is one of my favorite quotes of all time. :)
Hi Andrew,
Great tips on networking. I was just thinking about it this week how I was going to reach out to others and see where I can help them. I truly believe in helping others first before my self it just makes me feel like I accomplished something good.... And at the same time I feel more confident within my self to make better decisions. Thank you as always!!
Susan, love to hear it. Be confident. You have lots to offer others and they have lots to offer you. One of the biggest mistakes people make when networking is they don't open their hearts and minds to the possibilities others can introduce them to. Be open. Good things will come!
This is awesome. I'm a musician for a living and I just moved to NY. This really helps me have an idea how to get some relationships built that may open up opportunity for more work. Thanks!
That was really helpful. Thanks Andrew.
Youâre welcome!
I am about to start a new job and this is a great reminder and also a help for me to plan my first 90days plan. Thank you.

enjoyed listening to you Andrew - makes a lot of sense and I think I'm following the logic here :-) My biggest issue 'was' remembering everyone I meet out in the field, but I think I've solved that now - never forget anyone now via an app. Other issue is finding more time for networking :-)
May I ask which app u use?
Really useful information, I'm definitely going to use this!

Good Afternoon, I would like to ask how Venture Capitalists grow their professional networks of executives, service providers, etcetera?
Wow- very insightful content, most of this stuff is so simple but what I have noticed regarding achieving a gargantuan achievement/goal in life are doing small incremental modifications of the same thing over and over again depending on the industry/objective)!
Networking is no different, as we get better at it with repetition, and using your strategies only sets us up that much more for success!
Andrew, I am currently planting seeds right now! Myself and 2 mech engineers are developing a new device that cleans hair/lint/dirt off of clothing and upholstered items (furniture/car seats). We are getting close to a minimum viable product (MVP) but 2 things are desired which are:
1. CTO Chief technical founderwho can systematically group/organize and properly drive devlpemnt as I am not technically skilled. And Ideally I would like this person to sign up from a long term perspective and founder-status level.
2. A lab/facility where we can really test out our prototype.
Right now, I am spending 50 percent of the time playing CTO role and managing development as best I can and the other half using linkedin filtered searches like "CTO" "mechanical engineer" "lab engineer" and so forth and shooting them a less than 300 character linkedin message briefly on what we are building and how they could provide value.
I know you are very busy and if you do not get to a reply, I completely understand. Any insight would be helpful and would even pay for a 15, 20 or even less call if possible of course.
thanks again for the free and valuable content and all you do.
Jon Bonafide-
Thanks for the tips.
Happy to help!

Hey Andrew! Your videos are really helpful and to the point. Thanks and keep up with your great work. I'm in college now and I'm interested in getting a job referral from a 70 year old alumnus working in a reputed company. Apart from connecting in linked in and email I wish to go an extra mile in convincing him to offer a recommendation. Any suggestions?
Deepika, this is awesome. There's nothing wrong with picking up the phone too. Track that person down!
Create value and give more than receive, how do I do that if I am just a second-year business school student with little experiences?
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Very informative video
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Hi Andrew, Thanks for the Amazing video, really enjoyed listening to this video. Was wondering if you have a sample (networking) template on your website.
Abdulrahman, great question. I actually donât have free networking templates, but do offer these as part of my job search boot camp.
Great advice, hoping to build a network this year. Do you think its better to focus on friends and family or should we apply this advive to brand new relationships?
Jay, I would recommend first figuring out WHERE you want to go. Then, figure out who can take you there. It might be family and friends or it might be new folks. By the way, check out my free webinar How to Find a Job You Love. I comment on this particular question in the webinar: www.milewalkacademy.com/p/free-webinar-how-to-find-a-job-you-love
nice explaination..

The problem I'm running into is giving. Since I'm a young professional, I don't have a lot to give when I'm networking with older professionals in the industry I want to break into.
You always have something to give. Youâre hard work is certainly one thing. Everyone has to start somewhere!!

My biggest issue is I want to create a business but I find I don't want to a) take away friendships for business b) I want to get myself involved in my community or join a sports league to meet people but I find finances are tight..I also find I buy from people but they don't support my business back...I don't know what to do without coming out too pushy...what should I do?
2020 year to remember x whilst in quarantine x
I enjoyed your video :)
Glad to hear it!
Thank you, very useful. Can I network with you?
How do you recommend keeping up new professional contacts you just gained that can possibly help you in the long run? Its still pretty formal so I wouldn't feel comfortable just calling them up, but in emailing or shooting a text, how could I keep things going?
Check out my networking video with a few case studies that can help give you some ideas, Professional Networking | Tips from Success Stories. Good luck!

When you get together would you talk about what?
How to Develop Professional Relationships.
1. Identify your goals.
2. Head into research. (Who will help me move to that goal?) Find individuals you want to reach out to.
3. Relationship Map: Develop a list of 60-100 people that you connect with over the course of the year.
4. Have messages prepared in advance that you can answer individuals with.
5. Execute the plan. (Plan to hang out with 5-6 people to see who shows up and who to remove from the relationship map. You can add more individuals to the chart.)
Mrs.Stephanie Miskowicz Lhila đșđž Proof To know what your heart feels.

Hi Iâm Wesley. Iâm 17years old. I am planning on building a hotel. The Hotel is called Havx Hotel. I have a Facebook page for it, but I was wondering if you could check it out.
Love this!!!!
Thank YOU! :)
This was very helpful! Yesterday I identified a new goal and started research, so I'm on the right path! You are quite right that to realize you need a network is too late! My thanks to @Michael Whitehouse who sent the link to your video in his email list, and that's how I found you! I'll keep going--5-6 people feels doable.
It is and you got this!!
My problem is that I run an online business all my clients are in different states so I rarely meet people in person. I need to find a way to start meeting people that are in my state so I can start building relationships. Just hitting up random people on LinkedIn seems like a spammy thing to do. Any advice for where I should start?
