- PEP, post-exposure prophylaxis, is a medication meant to prevent or control the spread of an infection or disease. PEP for HIV is a prescription containing two medicines that are taken within 72 hours after a possible HIV exposure to prevent HIV infection. An exposure can occur during sexual activity, sharing of needles, or occupational if working in a facility that handles the virus.

I know you probably won't see this comment but please explain if you do: assuming pep locks away the infected t cells, for a month as you said, what exactly prevents the virus from replicating post-28 days? Does the virus lock them away so they die / expel from the system? Or? Because it doesn't make much sense to me. Cheers.
If your immune system works as intended, it kills all traces of the virus in the next few days, as it would do with any other type of virus. So, if pep works, after 28 days there’s no HIV virus to replicate.
It stops the virus from replicating & attaching to the cells they eventually die off without a host & the medicine kills them
Does taking double dose of pep will make less effective to work??

I have done ,4 generation test at 45 day 72 day 86 days and 106 day that is 77 days after pep

Based on the medication data sheet there is not a requirement. However, since nausea/stomach pain can be a symptom of the medication, taking it after a meal can help reduce that side effect in some people.
I had sex yet we had tested using oral quick but i feared,so i went to a doctor and got tested again through a different method and was found negative. Then i started taking pep because i doubt

I have Descovy but I haven’t taken it in months, I live in a rural area and I don’t have a car to get to an ER and I’m waiting on my at home test kits. Should I take my Descovy now since I am in that 72 hour window? But then I worry that my at home tests won’t be accurate. I’m so scared I don’t know what to do.

I had a (protected) sex with a sex worker (I don’t know if she’s HIV positive) but out of caution, I took PEP less than 24 hours of that sex. But I missed one day (the seventh day) and I took the 8th day pill earlier (so 48 hours) didn’t lapsed. Should I continue or it’s bust??? …. And what about scheduling? Should I take it everyday on the same hour, or being late for 5 hours or some times earlier by two means it became useless??? (I started taking it at 3PM, then 1PM, than some days at 8PM. When I missed that one day, I took it 6AM.

Today I completed my 28 days of pep ( tenofovir/emtracitabine/doultegravir) . I did not get any hiv symptoms in fact I did not get any std symptoms in this past month . Talking about the exposure, I used condom while having sex with a prostitute but her period blood accidentally slipped inside the condom . I'm very depressed although I've completed my pep regime , I'm stressed what are the chances ill still be tested positive for hiv . Did my pep regime work ? ( Note:- few days I had the medicine 1 hour or 2 hour late than usual timing , would it effect my pep effectiveness) . Thanks in advance whoever replies . Sorry for my weak Englis

are you morocan ? because i just took 1 pill yesterday and got all the side effects at once and it's so disturbing to live with all those side effects at once !
@@042itrohitsamanta7 i took mine 54 hours after expuser and they're not a pep just some medicines for HIV that can do the work as a PEP it's got M171 on it
after i took it i got some weird side effects like feeling like drunk all night, no sleep, super depressed...... all the possible side effect you would find online i got them and when i asked a doctor he said i should continue until tomorow so we can manage the dosage or something
