- Pre-exposure prophylaxis (or PrEP) is medicine taken to prevent an HIV infection. When taken as prescribed PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99% & from injection drug use by at least 74%.
Gilead, the manufacturer of PrEP, also has a medication co-pay program that may allow you to get access to this medication free of charge. Use the link to learn more:

How far we have come in almost 30 years.
Thank you, great information! I was wondering if taking the medication at different hour every day can make you vulnerable and make the pill to fail preventing getting HIV? I have been taking the medication for about 2 months now but I have had inconsistency taking it at a specific hour… i do take it every day though and I haven’t missed a day since day 1 taking it. Would like to know .. thanks !
Why were you on it for 2 months? I am only prescribed 1 month

Hi have you got the answer to your question?
it used to be 99% chance of not getting it, now it's 92%...oops? resistance maybe?- also can you CD4 cells operate normally with a coating around them?
What do you mean 92%?
Well that what i am reading in many places online watching docs talk about it- I don't hear the 99% much anymore- I remember when it first came out it was 99%@@shemamohebi4510

Only 92% ?
Can biktarvy be used as prep?
no, biktarvy is only used for HIV treatment.
tuvada, descovy, and apretude are approved medications to use as HIV PrEP.

How many people who have taken PREP religiously.... had a breakthrough infection?
I did. But my partner was toxic and not on meds and over time I became infected with his same strain that was resistant to Truvada.
@@119jle There is certainly - sadly - extenuating, and rather irresponsible circumstances concerning you partner not caring for his own health - more importantly, the prospective health of his partner .. i.e. yourself. However, in your case it was multiple events.... over time. I am not sure a single or even say, 5 occasions would lead to a breakthrough.
I suggest you know more about this topic than I.....
Thanks for responding.
👍
Did you take it daily as prescribed?
