How to Treat Cellulitis (Common Mistakes to Avoid)

  • Wanted to make a video on a simple and easy to remember approach to cellulitis, especially because a lot of times we see antibiotics prescribed that aren't necessarily indicated and also some suboptimal choices like ceftriaxone instead of cefazolin, or doxycycline monotherapy rather than the recommended doxycycline + amoxicillin for the additional Strep coverage. Maybe some minor nuances but I think it's always a worthwhile review. Hopefully this is a helpful little approach to cellulitis!

Treating bilateral cellulitis is as bad as idra rage quitting against huk when they were just hallucinations.

Definitely a worthwhile review. I either learn something new in each of your videos, or I learn a great approach/order for a chalk talk.

Dn’t know if you look back at comments on previous videos, but last week I prescribed cefadroxil because of your video. Led to an interesting conversation with our ID pharmacist, so thanks!

This is so helpful as a patient who has had cellulitis mostly in lower left leg, but sometimes both - 12 times in the last 3 years!! Oh and occasionally under my eyes! 100% of the time brought on by extreme stress (lowered immune system) it's never a cut, or any of the other questions they ask me. I've been on several of these drugs you mentioned, but I'm going to write them down so I'm given the better one. Though ideally I'd love to really solve what is happening (besides the extreme stress) Why can't my body handle the stress anymore after 55 years? (I don't expect an answer - it's just an odd circumstance)

Do you commonly add on steroids in cellulitis?

Nope! I don’t think I’ve seen that being done in clinical practice and I’m not aware of any recommendations for it

I am a pharmacist and if we had teachers like you, we would not have taken our naps during class lol. We need physicians like you but go in teaching. I tell people to take keflex 1000mg bid instead of 500 qid. Ok?
