Austin years later admitted his disdain for Hogan because of the mid 90's when hogan went to WCW just as Austin was making a mark, he felt hogan hamstrung him and then again coming back to WWE for a second time screwing him over,, and decided not to ever give him a match, which Steve later admitted was a mistake on his part.
But I always questioned if those two could harmonize a match well, when both styles contradicted each other too much. You could see it in detroit before hogan vs Rock, they had a tag team match and hogan and austin finally were wrestling each other near the end of that match, but it felt a bit awkward.

In my opinion, this is the match where The Rock proved to be one of the greatests in ring generals of all time. When he realized the crowd would have booed him, he took the ball and immediatly yet naturally shifted to heel. The whole match psychology changed on the spot yet Rock and Hogan managed to go with it in an effortless way, this is a top tier skill in a wrestler . There is a reason those 2 are GOATs

@i2a7-of2ju if you're one of those that likes it more technical then a hogan match will never be up your alley anyway. But crowd reaction actually can make a match. Neither hogan or rock did anything special technically. But they worked with the crowd. Masterful ring psychology too...especially rock playing heel. When you get a combination of the two, that's when the matches are all timers. Hogan rock is one of the most memorable but rock Lesnar at summerslam that year was even better.

  • @michaelburke7978

This match was just amazing. Yes, Hogan in the States wasn't a master technician in the ring, but he didn't need to do a bunch of flashy moves to garner a reaction. He was a master at having everyone in the palm of his hand, and getting people invested in his matches.
Hogan's Wrestlemania X8 match is proof that you don't need to do a bunch of flippy spot fests to get a crowd to react to you. When Rock and Hogan lock up for the first time, that reaction Hogan gets from just shoving Rock across the ring is insane.
Also, JR's "He beat Andre The Giant with that move!" is gold. I get that HHH/Jericho had to main event due to the WWF title always main eventing, but in hindsight, Rock/Hogan should've closed the show.

Lex Luger didn't fail. Saying Lex Luger failed is saying Seth Rollins was a more successful champion than Brock Lesnar.
Lex Luger didn't win the championship because he was Vince McMahons champion and Bret hart won the belt at Wrestlemania because he was the creatives champion that included Patterson and Brisco.
      Nobody was the people's champion.
The house shows of 93 with Yokozuna as a main event facing all sort of baby faces apparently drew more money than Bret Hart as a champion in 94 and house shows pretty much prove that. And it can be checked online in sites.
Just because certain people have some praise for Bret Hart and shift the blame completely on Diesel and Luger for their agenda.
Diesel and Luger still drew more money for WCW. NWO and Luger was a top merchandise seller behind NWO, Goldberg and Sting.
When Bret Hart was the champion WWF was drowning, he went to WCW and also did nearly nothing to the ratings or house shows.
People saying Luger failed probably don't know that Bret hart and Shawn Michael were low card talent when Luger was a main event for NWA and WCW.
Bret and Shawn only got the belt because Patterson who was the head of creative was in favor of pushing good in ring workers over guys with the look and presence.

Everyone who says the wrestling was bad back then, really has to re-think their words. "Professional wrestling" has THREE main components, promos, wrestling, and characters (STARS). Before the PG era, the order of importance was Stars, promos, then wrestling. Modern WWE has put so much emphasis on the quality of the matches, and it hinders the chance for characters to shine through, and create superstars. There's some AMAZING wrestlers, that can do things NO ONE could do back in the day. Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay, are INSANE in the ring, but they aren't stars. Go up to 100 people and ask who those guys are, I'd say maybe 5 people would know. Now, time travel to 1990 and ask people who Hulk Hogan, or Macho Man are... Or 2002 and ask who Stone Cold, or The Rock are. They were STARS. Wrestling no longer has them.
