Marzocchi Bomber CR Review - Best Coil Shock for the Price?

- Hey guys, in todays video, we take a look at the Marzocchi Bomber CR. I bought this shock about a month ago, and have gotten a good amount of miles on it. Since the Bikes Online dilemma, I got $200 back for false advertising on the shock. I paid $100 bucks plus the spring 10% off at World wide cyclery. Pretty good deal in my opinion. This shock is a bargain for what you get, just make sure you get the proper spring, so the ride isn't harsh. Thanks for watching!!! Please consider liking and subscribing, it'll help out the channel a ton!

I was reading on the Marzocchi/Fox site and it says they don’t recommend on Polygon Siskiu (among other bikes) from 2018-2021 as a strut model. Do you know why and have you had any issues?
Have the same N7 as you do. Thanks!
Hey! Sorry for the late response. When owning the bike, I had no issues with the shock, other than what I believe was a defect. I've seen videos of this shock snapping on a Commencal frame (which is a very similar suspension design as the N7). Maybe they got unlucky? I don't know, but I'll pin this discussion so people are aware.
It's because the siskiu has a really linear suspension curve, coils require progressive curves in order for them to support the bike more smoothly without being harsh
Literally exactly what I needed to hear about this shock, thanks! Considering slapping it on my yeti sb150 in place of my Float x2. The factory level ajustments are hard haha
Glad it helped. I suck at adjusting suspension stuff too. For me, the least adjustments the better.
Never even thought about going coil but now I am. Same bike, and I suck at adjusting. Will def get this in the next few months. After some reviews I know the DPS aint all that. Good video!
Thanks! Glad it helped!
Thanks for the review Kaeden, like you I got a Polygon N7, sorry you got a lot of issues with it and probably why you've sold it.
I'm having issues with the Fox DPS that has a slow air leak, it is just so annoying I had check the sag every run and that means I have to carry a shock pump with me all the time.
Looking for replacements, I noticed a bunch of Fox DPSX2 from the N9 which got me thinking, why get a DPS or DPSX2 if they are swapping it anyway?
Anyway, will definitely give this Marzocchi a go. Thanks and keep producing great content.
Have to get this shock warrantied. Started making a knocking noise and feel.
Great video thanks!👍 if you don’t mind me asking how do you like the yari fork?
I just put a DVO Jade X coil on my N9. I agree with everything you said in this review, transforms the bike. I think the bike actually feels even more poppy now. The DPX2 that came on the bike felt like junk compared to the coil. Nice review 👌🏼
Thanks! Your car is sick! The rear shock makes it feel way more capable. Thanks for watching!
Do you want to sell your dpx2?
@@mountainsteward7776 already have sorry
Thanks for the video
Do you need to use spring adapter for your marzocchi bomber cr if you fit it with fox coil spring with 36.5 id?
Cool looks like a lot of fun for the way down! I've been working to tune my dps in. It really seems to be harsher at lower speeds but once you're going blurry fast it's pretty kushy. How do you like the rear tire? Just aired my magic mary's up a ton today and found that I like them more than I thought I did. Vid suggestions: some rough, steep stuff.
The Big Betty is really good for dry conditions, but gets clogged when it’s muddy. Kind of fun when it’s clogged though cause you can whip the back out a lot. The volume is smaller than the Marys so it’s easier to ding the rim, which I did. It was my fault because I didn’t check the psi for around a week. Never flatted though and it’s a pretty small ding. You’re spot on with the rear shock, for my terrain, most of it is up and down, so I wanted it be always be kushy. I know a place for the suggestions... thanks for watching!
What is the size of the bushing to be used? The diameter of the bushing i have in monarch rt is 12.7mm, does it match to it?
Been running mine for about a month now. No issues yet. I weight about 165 with all gear. And have 450 steel spring. With mullet. Any advice to make this setup better @ kaeden mtb
Did you need custom hardware for the marzocchi bomber cr? Or just use from dps?
I just used the hardware from the dps. Direct swap over and I just used sockets to push out the bushings.
I'm running a Marzocchi Bomber CR on my Siskiu N8 🤘 Went with a bit too heavy spring (650lb) to start with... getting a lighter (600lb) spring installed this week.
I'm also going mullet i.e. putting a 27.5" wheel out back (will be built up this week also).
My N8 came stock w/ DPX2 which can't keep up w/ Fox 36 Factory fork I installed up front.
Did you need custom hardware to use the marzocchi bomber or just used from dpx 2
@@gls-dave620 mounting hw used from DPX2 👍
How much do you weight? I’m around 170 with a 450 but could go a bit lighter. I really want to go mullet, but since the cranks are so long, you’d pedal strike often. Let me know how it is when you do it though.
@@Kaedenfu I weigh 200lbs and have a 450lb standard fox spring on my N8 as a point of reference. On paper the bike is very much the same to the N7 and some big huck to flat I'm not getting bottomed out (yet) and my sag is about 27%. So id probably wouldn't go any higher in spring rate however probably could even go lower to 425lb or even go to a progressive spring maybe 400lb to 500lb or something. I usually do more technical decent trails so maybe a higher spring rate be better for jump lines. This is good discussing spring rates for this bike as there is not a whole lot of info out there for it.
@@Kaedenfu I'm 240'ish pounds... Had my first proper ride today on new setup i.e. 650b rear tire, 600lb light spring & I've had to chuck on some Guide RE brakes as the rear Tektro brake has had a meltdown.
Rear end feels great! I've tweaked Fox 36 config to match more supple rear end.
Guide RE's don't feel any better than Tektro's... In fact, I'd say Tektro has better feel at the lever. RE's will hopefully be more reliable/durable. NB, no more than normal re, pedal strikes... can't explain why b/c with how much lower the bb is there should be. Only reason I can give us that, perhaps it's a little high to start with...??
Hey kaeden, i have the same exact bike as you and i just hate the stock dps shock. I’m about to buy this same shock but am not sure what hardware to buy. Could you tell me what hardware you bought to fit the n7? Thanks dude
Hello, the hardware on the dps is interchangeable with the Marzocchi. You will just need to press out the hardware, just get yourself some sockets and a hammer.
@@Kaedenfu awesome! Thank you
so sick, i just got my n7 a week ago and love it but only got to ride it for a day as i broke my elbow :(
That sucks man. Heal up soon!
"I don't care that you broke your elbow"
Just a reference haha, I hope you can get back on your bike soon, I'm sure it misses you
Hey man, Concidering maybe chucking one of these on my n7, is it worth the money over the dps?? the trails i ride look very similar to yours.
It really just depends on what you want, but I think its worth the money. If you want a lighter bike, I’d get a rear shock with a piggy back though, like a rockshox superdeluxe or the new dpx. The coil is really small bump compliant and it works really good for the frame, but some people might not like it cause theres no lockout. My dps was leaking air and it was really harsh, so I spent the $200 from Bikesonline on the coil.
@@Kaedenfu ok yeah I wouldn’t really want much more of a heavy bike but if the ride is substantially better I think I could work with that. Did you sell your fox dps?
@@domanater480 No, I sent it in for warranty, but they never actually fixed it. It does make a significant difference, the Cr quiets the bike down and feels way more plush.
How is this shock holding up over time? Are you still happy with the shock?
What's the sizing for your shock because I'm thinking of getting one and I have the same frame
It’s 205x65mm trunnion. Thanks for watching!
Do you think that this shock would work good with a 2021 Marin rift zone 2 frame? I did some research to see if anyone else has tried this and I found nothing, thanks and amazing vid btw!
Hello! The shock size is 210x50. I can’t find anything that shows it wouldn’t work. If clearance is an issue, you can always return it. Thanks for watching!
Hi. I am also considering to install this bomber in Rift Zone 2 (2021). According to Marins official page Rift Zone Carbon XR got the same frame geometry as Rift Zone 2 and got 210 x 50 mm coil spring as rear suspension right out of the box. I guess there won't be any instalation issues and also frame is rather progressive.
Is a 20% progression enough?
If I have a siskiu N9 is the wheel travel 160 mm or was that just a placeholder number? Now that I realize this would only cost me about 330 to upgrade this harsh ass DPX2.
So the stock size you’ll need is a 205x65mm trunnion. 160mm is just how much the rear triangle moves up and down.
@@Kaedenfu do we need a 2.6 spring for the N9 as well?
@@lathamstylemtb I use a 2.8mm fox steel spring. I was running a 450 pound spring and I’m 170 pounds, and that was a little too stiff. Bought a 400 pound but waiting for fox to send the coil back.
@@Kaedenfu I’m planning on throwing this coil on the rear of my n9. Dpx2 is like a toilet plunger pushing into your ass on the chonk. I have a size large N9 so would I need the same 205x65 and a 2.8 fox coil?
What’s the shock size on the polygon n7 because I wanna get the dpx2 and idk the size
The shock is 205x65mm trunnion. Thanks for watching!
@@Kaedenfu one more question is that the same for XL
@@jackbugbee7720 Yes.
@@Kaedenfu thx
What’s the sock size on the polygon n 7 because I wanna get a dpx2 and I need the size please
The shock is a 205x65mm trunnion. Thanks for watching!
@@Kaedenfu your a life saver
@@Kaedenfu keep up the good work and stay gnarly
@@Kaedenfu is the fork rake? I can’t figure it out or the fork size so I can get a lyric
@@jackbugbee7720 Could you just change the damper out with a charger? The chassis of the Yari is as stiff if not stiffer because it’s an e bike fork. It’d also be much cheaper to that. I’ll check the rake later today though.
There's exploded views on fox' website on rebuilding these. Not any worse than an air shock.
Thanks, I’ll look into it.
@@Kaedenfu and look up fox van rc rebuilds. Same shock. No problem man! I paired mine with a springdex coil on my siskiu T8.
@@hitary1 How are you liking the springdex? I just ordered one.
@@MrChadLedford I dig it. I get about a 15% swing in sag at the bookends of rates
@@hitary1 Wow, that’s incredible.
