Thanks for the video. You probably saved me from the same thing happening. I did some research on ideas to protect the connection from rain. A guy stacked 2 five gallon bucks upside down with the electrical connection between the 2 buckets. Now, it's off the ground and no water can get between the buckets.

The Molly Hatchet song 'Flirtin with disaster' would be a great theme song for this video. If you don't how to do electrical work, hire an electrician.

Wire the pump to the electrical breaker box in the house bury the electric wiring in PVC pipe out to the pool to a waterproof receptacle with a ground fault outlet . Cover the pump plug cord with piping insulation plug into your new ground fault box . No more problem . My index pumps and filter Seven years old still running fine.

Just install a GFCI outlet on the house then that'll eliminate the need to wire an outlet on a CORD. Also, see if your pump/filter is under warranty. My Intex pump/filter has a 2 year warranty and hoses are a year. I actually just got my new pump motor and the 6 port valve head in the mail because I had to send in for the warranty myself. For some reason when I'd touch the old plug I'd get zapped and they sent me a new 6 port valve head because sand was entering the pool. They said they couldn't send new laterals that are in the sand filter tank.

Theres a reason they specifically say not to use an extension cord nevermind a threeway plug. Youd definitely overloaded the line

Hire an electrician to do it correctly.

If you by passed the gfci ground fault that is dangerous you can buy a replacement end for the cord the best thing is put in conduit with the gfci

Use the long cord that comes with the pump (for a reason) to as far away as you can, THEN add an extension cord if necessary, of a larger wire gauge.
The only problem I see here is the position of the multi-plug, allowing it to fill with rain water and start arcing?

What is the Name and Model # of your pump ? I just closed on a home that has a 17’ Coleman above ground pool and have the same pump but the label has weathered off so I can’t find a manual to troubleshoot it

So, I have a GFCI outlet right next to the pump running to the house, BUT i can't plug both the Pump and Salt Water generator units into it because the plugs are so big. (My units have the big breaker box as part of the 3-prong plug). So i bought a 2 ft 12 gauge 3-way extension to run out of the outlet to plug both units into, but now I'm thinking i should use two short extensions (the GFCI has 2 outlets) to avoid the overload of the extension. Does that sound right? I did build a cover for both units and the GFCI outlets to keep them (relatively) dry, but my question is: do you think it was because the extension got wet, or just the fact that both units were running off the same extension? Any advice would be appreciated, don't want to set my pool on fire! Thanx!

      What did you do?

@@teenice894 yo I went with one and it worked, but this year I'm getting low salt errors, so I'm gonna try a new separate one see if that helps the voltage. Otherwise it worked fine.

    I use an electrical cord!
    What caused your fire?

  • @iair-conditiontheoutsideai3076

You overloaded the extension cord most likely

Not using weather proof fittings such as cord caps and connectors not advisable. No matter if you have a GFCI device. 🤣

Lousy lose connection in the cord its better to use wires in conduit to a box buy ground fault from home depot

You are NEVER to use an extension cord. Perfect reason why you had a fire. And you are repeating the same set up? Is that electrical tape on the wire to the pump? Oh man this is soooooooooo bad.
