    that primer holds back rust really good. The only thing to know is you need to let it dry for a very long time like about a month then recoat the primer with urethane primer before putting on automotive paint. If you dont do that you may have problems with fisheyes or wrinkling of the automotive paint.

    Nice video i feel like once metal gets rusty it’s never the same again no matter how clean it looks. Rusty metal primer probably is a good idea if rustoleum makes it you’d think it’d be something they do right. Never tried rustoleum in the regular cans but as far as the spray cans the rustoleum regular primer and filler primer spray cans from Home Depot worked surprisingly well for me and only $7 and 9$ each. The filler primer dries instantly pretty much and took metallic sherwin Williams atx auto paint really well and really stuck to the metal underneath compared to some Upol primer that chipped off easily. The regular rustoleum primer was good too just needs to dry for at least 2 days.

I didn't realize it and tried for just a second to clean the brush in the sink. Not a big deal, but it seems like something all oil based paints would show. Guess I should have known or checked, but what with all the drinking, heavy drug use, and merriment I neglected to take that step. Oh well, that's life!

    • @grapplergirl10
      @grapplergirl10 Před 2 lety

      I wondered the same, but I recently took most of a poor paint job off of, and wire brushed 99% of the rust off of an antique metal sewing machine table base. I foam brushed on this primer (chose it due to its color and feel for this specific project) and did have a little trouble with it sticking on mostly smooth metal on the first coat, but by doing a thin coat twice, it stuck great with nothing coming off while handling or wiping it clean. Black paint looks great over it, and I’m able to leave a few protected but “rusty looking” places peeking through the paint all while keeping it protected for another century.

      FWIW I did rustolem rusty metal primer with a brush on the underside of my 78 Fairmont wagon about 8:years ago and top coated that with hammer tone rustoleum. It came out awesome. My experience with por 15 is that is encapsulates rust but it doesn’t really stop it and the cost vs value is not so good. I’ve also been able to go back and peel it off of stuff I had used it on. Fluid film or something like that works awesome as well for persevering an undercarriage.

A better way is to adjust it with a regulator at the gun. The length of the hose changes the pressure. The final result looked good thought.
