  • Hey, guys. In this video, I go over the PSC high-output power steering pump I installed on my truck as part of this front-end overhaul. As you'll see, it is significantly more powerful than the factory one, and it has eliminated all issues with losing power steering assist when the truck is stopped and the brakes are applied.

      Did you also add a cooler for this pump?

    • @JayRussellDuramax
      @JayRussellDuramax  Před 2 lety

      @@codygunnerson8876 No, I didn't add one. The AmsOil fluid I'm using has no issues with heat-soaking. It's always smooth and quiet - no matter how long I've been using the truck!

      @@allenoakes9126 Awesome! Just be sure to use a high-quality power steering fluid. PSC sells their own fluid under the Swepco brand, and you can buy it on Summit racing fairly inexpensively.

    This is awesome. I've gone thru a bunch of junk rebuilds and new china made pumps with all bad experiences. My truck has stalled before when trying to turn in a parking lot with the ac on at idle. That 1600 psi rating seems to be the ticket.

    Did you have the right puller? Napa and autozone rent them. Good Pump American made, anytime you can support that is a good thing , put one on my LMM little tip if you replace your lines prime the pump with a little vacuum on the pick up side took me a while to find someone that suggested that , first though it was a bad pump , worked like a charm , starting it lock to lock 3 times didn't do , maybe the ratchet would have worked

    Late here, but you don't use a jaw puller for that style pulley. There is a ps pulley puller that grabs the lip at the center of the puller

    • @JayRussellDuramax
      @JayRussellDuramax  Před rokem

      Yes! I learned that afterwards... Haha! I didn't realize that the kit I rented also had the pulley puller in it. I'm still glad I put the new pulley on it, though.

    There is a proper puller to remove that pulley. You also use the same puller to reinstall that pulley

    • @JayRussellDuramax
      @JayRussellDuramax  Před rokem

      I'm using AmsOil, but, to be absolutely safe, I'd order their Swepco fluid. You can buy it on Summit Racing.

    Sweet video jay, any noticeable difference in braking with this psc pump?

    • @JayRussellDuramax
      @JayRussellDuramax  Před rokem

      Thank you, Oscar! Well, I've also gone with the 2011 hydroboosts upgrade, so my brakes feel SIGNIFICANTLY better because of that. I think the improvement this pump makes on an otherwise unmodified truck is that the power steering doesn't lose assist when you're holding the vehicle still with the brakes.

    How much was the pulley

    • @JayRussellDuramax
      @JayRussellDuramax  Před rokem

      The pulley is $95. You can buy it on AutoZone by searching: Dorman Power Steering Pump Pulley 300-229
      However, the OEMTOOLS Pulley Puller/Installer (Part #: 57031) should be able to remove your OEM pulley and install it on the new pump. I didn't realize how it worked when I did mine. I wouldn't've had to buy the new pulley otherwise... Haha!

    • @JayRussellDuramax
      @JayRussellDuramax  Před rokem

      Yeah, it's not cheap, unfortunately. However, it's definitely worth the price. Even a brand new OEM pump will struggle a little bit. Did you click the link in the description of the video? It's listed at $275 there.
