    I just got one of these about 2 months ago and I absolutely love it. It certainly isn't inexpensive, but I feel like this is one of the very few things I've ever bought that I received and felt "I might have actually gotten more than I paid for here"

      $350 is a lot to pay for a toy, true, but there are people out there who'll drop $100k on a new corvette when they're toy shopping. So this isn't at all bad, in comparison.

    Have it. It’s awesome. Had a problem with it about a wire making it not work. Virpil sent me parts quickly and a video on how to correct the issue. I did a button count against TM before purchase and bought the Virpil on the basis of features, build, and a few more buttons/switches than the Warthog. It is truly big and strong construction. You can subdue annoying relatives by swinging it around, if so needed.

    Got this throttle earlier this year 2021, and it is absolutely amazing. I haven't messed with the customization much as I find the software a bit intimidating, but everything default has been top top quality. And having so many switches and knobs lets me put all sorts of things I use frequently right on the throttle quadrant. I should probably remove the detents though since I mostly fly helo and they just cause a rough spot but yeah. Awesome stuff.

      @@rpersen Works great man. I'd prefer to have the new collectives that are out now, but limited money prevents this. I make the collective setting "reversed" in the axis so that pulling throttle back is increasing collective, and throttle forward is decreasing it. Feels more like an actual collective that way. But it is very accurate and comfortable.

  • @1SaG
    @1SaG Před rokem +2

    After nearly 6 weeks, it looks like mine will arrive next week - can't wait! I also come from the WHT and it wasn't a case of me being disappointed by the TM product... more like that I really like the Virpil (had the chance to try it out briefly last year) and that I wanted to treat myself. I'm a bit apprehensive about the fact that I'll have to "learn" yet another proprietary software to get it to work - and that I'll have to re-map all my sims - but I'm pretty sure the effort will be worth it. Seeing the VPC's interior for the first time in a different YT-review is what sealed the deal for me. The WHT does show a bit where they cut corners once you open it up and take a peek inside. The VPC looks just as solid and well put together on the inside as it does on the outside. Plus it'll be nice to have a throttle that doesn't weigh 4 to 4.5 kilos - even with those silly add-on weights removed.
    Don't get me wrong: The WHT is still a very good product. If you can get it on sale, like I did for ~€200, I'd go as far as saying that it's great value for money. If your budget doesn't allow for the VPC but you want something more solid, precise and high end than, say, a TWCS, the Warthog is still a great choice, even in 2023.

    I figured it out but if you wanna read it go ahead, the issue was I had the slider on the front binded to thrust for some reason just had to unbind it and reverse the axis. I bought mine a month-ish ago(July 30, 2022) and got it September 9th, 2022. Anyway after assembling everything, mounts, bases, etc. I went onto War Thunder after calibrating everything in the software. Worked just first in War Thunder, throttle input read 0-100 just fine. Now I go into DCS and try the F-16, starting at the ready ramp(this is my first hotas and first time trying actually fly in dcs) I put the throttle forward but it keeps “glitching” back to 0% and them back to a random % when I back off throttle to 0% and it keeps jumping around, at around idle, 12%, it kinda works. This is DCS exclusive, War Thunder works just fine, any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

    Great review! I have a warthog throttle & picked this throttle up the other day for all the extra switches. Question I hope you can answer is do each side of the throttle have a axis? So can I program one side to be power & the other the collective? I tried it the other day & didn’t seem to detect that. I didn’t want to mess with it that day so I just unplugged & used my Warthog. I do want to get it to work though. I also noticed the axis wasn’t very smooth. It jumped around. Do I have to calibrate it with the Virpil software? Thanks & thanks again for the review!

    • @1SaG
      @1SaG Před rokem +1

      Really depends on your budget. In my neck of the woods, I could get the WHT for €200 incl shipping and at that price, going Warthog was a bit of a no-brainer. The Virpil was nearly €500 including everything at the time of purchase. That said: I'm still eyeing the Virpil hard, even though I'm quite happy with my Warthog. Well, when I say happy... its slew control is utter garbage, but I knew that going in and my VKB MCG Pro has a very good slew-hat on it. Plus I'm not super-psyched about the WH's inability to give me synchronized left and right throttle outputs ... they're always off by around 500 positions on mine... that's less than 1%, but it means that I can never have my Hornet's two engines run at the same power setting with the grips locked together. Gonna have to come up with a work-around in TARGET I suppose and I really don't like that piece of software.
      Overall: go for the Virpil if your budget allows it - if not, you won't be disappointed by the Warthog I think - it's still a very good throttle despite its minor flaws.

    Can it be set up like any other game controller through Windows directly or does it rely on its own divers and software to configure everything?

    • @frankenberry9670
      @frankenberry9670 Před rokem

      The Virpil software is used to configure the Virpil hardware so that Windows sees whatever you want. You can map physical button 1 so that Windows sees it as logical button 12 or whatever. Once your have configured the Virpil hardware you can use either something like Joystick Gremlin and/or the actual game to bind to whatever actions you want. For most things you can go with the default setup. I.E. Physical button 1 is presented as logical button 1. The mode switch can appear as a series of logical buttons to Windows or you can program the hardware to change how it presents the buttons/axis depending on the position of the mode switch. You can even set it up so that certain ranges on an axis are presented as logical button pushes.
      You have a tremendous amount of flexibility but the fancier your requirements the more careful you have to be saving your work and the more time you spend trying to tweak things.
      Two things I have used:
      1. My setup has more than 64 buttons and some games such as Elite Dangerous can't handle the extra. I have it setup so any control above 64 appears as a separate device with a lower number. I.E. Physical button 80 on device 1 presents as button 16 on device 2.
      2. I have left and right joysticks. I set the device names so they are different and indicate what side they are on. Some games only tell you what the button number is and not the device, some do, so having names that indicate Left and Right can be helpful.
      I don't do anything fancy but the hardware can certainly support whatever you want. I'm still mentally debating whether keeping most of the configuration in game, in something like Joystick Gremlin or in the hardware is "the best" for me.

    The Throttle wobbles on the table like a piece of s***t. And this is for the money that is asked for this device.🤯

    TBH - you should have done the unboxing. Virpil has for some time now been getting knocked for shipping in plain brown wrappers. Not bad packaging, but also not what you would expect for $400.

    Had the CM3 a couple of months ago. While its solidly built, it suffers from some major ergonomic issues. Bottom line is there are too many controls on the throttle handles and they are in the wrong place exacerbated by the shape of the throttle handles themselves. Sold it after 2 days and replaced with a Winwing Super Taurus (which is far superior). Hard to recommend.

      "Never too many controls" besides, can't you just bypass until needed? -😏

      @@matthewlee6462 you can very much have too many controls when it compromises ergonomics and ease of use, which is what I felt is the case with this unit. Each to their own but I didn't get on with it at all.

      I can see some of the hats on the side of the HOTAS being hard to reach, but mine feels great. I just program the 8 way hat and the button below it last.

      @Andre I don't have to use the keyboard to fly the A-10CII anymore, so I'd say it does its job well.

    Не надо заказывать себе такое- очень неудобно.
    Это полнеший провал.
    1. Зря при таком долгом ходе РУДов устроили радиальное перемещение.
    2. Нужно было делать линейный РУД.
    3. Так называемые детенты абсолютно не удобны.
    4. Зря отказались от колесика на ЗУМ. Слайдер абсолютно не удобен. И дрожжит ? За такую цену?
    5. Кнопки и переключатели на ручках это вообще "атас"- нет четкого срабатывания. Да, они нажимаются, но при отпускании какие-то паразитные срабатывания всё-же происходят. Бесит. Бесит. Бесит......................................... ХЛИПКОЕ!!!
    6. Кнопки и переключатели на РУДах рассчитаны на женскую китайскую ручку. ОЧЕНЬ МАЛЕНЬКИЕ для моей русской МУЖСКОЙ руки.
    7. Эргономика... на -2. Из 5-баллов. На столе можно расположить, но тогда кисть руки выгибается в непотребном виде, искать цели в полный газ или в малый газ.
    8. Расположение кнопок... Ваши "Инженеры" не летали. Иначе зачем этот скос под 45 градусов на 1-м РУДе???
    9. Более-менее функционал открывается под 45 грд. к пользователю.

    fuck this beauty on my F18 DCS, it would be perfect it would make my life so much easier.
    With that price I get 3 x52, they are worse but with 3 x52 I play for like 10 or 15 years.
    Great but it costs too much.
    It costs too much ...for me, because the mechanisms are all in STEEL so it's worth all those 300 euros.
