Star Citizen aims to span multiple video game types by combining space trading, space combat and shooter elements, in a first person massively multiplayer online game. In October of 2012, Chris Roberts, the creator of the wing commander series, launched a Kickstarter Campaign whose goal was to create the seamless persistent universe and the narrative player experience squadron 42. The project continues to break Guinness Records through incredible community support. Despite the technical hurdles, CIG demonstrates tangible results and continues to prove to its backers that the impossible is becoming possible. The scope and scale of the game increased as more funding was pledged, which became known as feature creep. Most accept that delays, although frustrating, do result in obvious progress. The player backers are given early access to the current live version of the game code, to test and offer feedback. The player experience changes from enjoyable to frustrating and back again, sometimes day by day. Star Citizen can be enjoyed, and take a break when it suits you. Numerous content creators cover the ongoing situation to keep you informed and up to day. As an early backer and tester, you need to be ready for its quirks but you can also witness the game evolve.
I am a FAN of the game and not affiliated with CIG. My opinions are my own. Contact me for business opportunities, corrections or retractions. Operated by Noobifier Media INC. CDN-120508161

    "Need" is a strong word.
"Need" denotes something necessary for sustaining life.
    One NEEDS food to live.
    One NEEDS water to live.
One NEEDS protection from the elements to live.
Yes, I NEED the whole Virpil suite.

+BrianMP5T *VIRPIL® Controls has a quadrifecta for starting an aircraft simpit build.* The Control Panel #1, the ACE™ Interceptor pedal set, and the MongoosT-50CM2® throttle and stick base are engineered compatible, and the Constellation ALPHA™ stick grip (I'd suggest the 200mm extension for ballpark roll rate and pitch angle on the '50CM2 base) provides a yaw-trim input on the Z axis in addition to three inputs from the trigger system.

Virpil makes great products! My Space Citizen experience went up many steps when I switched from dual sticks from Thrustmaster to Virpil. Worth every penny. I see this control board more suitable for flight sims than as a complement to a dual stick space sim setup. Thank you for the great, to the point, review Noobs!!

I was hoping to see a mount available for this like the one in the TECS mock up where the button box is roughtly perpendicular to the throttle and mounted in such a way that it's "in front of" the throttle, if that makes sense. So take your hand off the throttle, and push the button that is slightly less than 90 degrees to it.
It seems like the placement of the daisy chain makes that a little more difficult rather than easy. Glad to see this video, when you were doing your video on the chair, all I saw was this button box =p Oh, and yes, I think I will order one of these depending on the final price of it. I bet Monster tech will make a mount like I suggested if Virpil decides not to.

As a Star Citizen player and Virpil owner for 2 years, I find Panel 1as a highly useful tools to the game. The A1 dial plays a huge part with my mining career (laser power) but I find the T3 and T4 switches useless as Star CItizen doesnt have a full time on vs off toggle like a jet fighter would. I wish they'd change them to E4 and E5 controls used for either detailed pitch & yah or strafing maneuvers (used when mining or salvaging). The speed indicator could also be targeted. Outside of that small request, I love the panel. Panel 2 and 3 are targeted more for Jet Fighting so I hope Virpil comes out with a more space flight panel similar to panel 1 but maybe with a slider or analog control.
In summary, I find panel 1 nearly perfect for my game play.

I've been looking forward to this review to see the panel in action. It actually makes more sense for SC than a throttle. I find I've been using the throttle mainly for buttons to control things like doors, locks, lights, etc. However, I'd miss the ability to switch the B1 to B6 buttons via the Mode toggle. Great review though :)

Another amazing piece of Virpil sexieness! Well, since I'm work for a living I've been buying my Virpil controls piecemeal. This year I was able to order the CM2 base, Constellation and just placed my CM3 Throttle order. While I have a trimendous itch for their pedals, I went with VKB for now clearly for price/form factor (used). I really like this panel, but currently my money is going to mounts.
Note: Earlier this year Virpil teased us with an image of their Helicopter Collective prototype, I've been eagerly awaiting more info or at least a tech demo. Virgil's more secretive at times than a car manufacture, they teased the community damn near 2 years ago with the poll to choose the control panel design (first iteration). There was little lead up and little info about it until it its release. I just feel the market is a bit stale, no interest in unique and innovative stuff well outside of the custom builds. We see the same old sticks/HOTAS from the _lame stream_ manufactures at rather (recently) stupid prices. I mean we saw the "Airbus" release for MSFS which was a lightly modded T1000.

wow, you got the CM2 base!!!!! holy crap that thing looks SAAAWEEEET. How do you like it? have you played with the two screws that are on top that allow general exterior adjustment? Im thinking about getting a CM2 base and putting my CM2 Grip on it with an extension but the mounting bracket from Virpil (Large) protrudes up too much for me to fit my Honeycomb Alpha yoke on the table in the center. i almost need a modifed bracket that could handle the heavy CM2 base and grip but will not interfere with the "sticky mount" option of the Honeycomb Yoke. You see, i do both MS2020/X-plane and also DCS and also have the Bravo throttle quadrant sitting to the right of the yoke on the table (both sticky mounted).....perhaps i should choose just one or the other, lol...but I'm too spoiled now. It's hard to find real estate for everything, ugh.

Hey Noob, can you do a special on advice for left handers? I don't know of any content providers that have provided a segment for those unfortunate 10% of the population. I would like to fly HOTAS but I can't find an ambidextrous throttle controller. I have tried with limited success to use my RAT8+ as a throttle controller. Its not pretty as using the mouse movement for a throttle isn't really supported by Star Citizen.
So I have gone back to dual stick. One minor problem I have with my dual stick setup is when I use my right stick pitch movement as a forward and back thruster is that it requires a hand on the stick at all times other wise in the neutral position the throttle is going to zero and stop the ship. I prefer a throttle control that is analog that can stay in a position like a typical HOTAS setup.
As usual great content and welcome back to America.

So question for you Noobifier... How do you handle swapping between flight controls to FPS controls quickly? Currently I play with Keyboard and mouse, but the Keyboard's lack of analogue input is beginning to grate on my nerves when trying to execute fine maneuvers. I've considered picking up a TM16000 for my left hand so I could go Stick and Mouse combo for flight, and keyboard and mouse for FPS but I hear the TM16000 has some parts that wear out quickly. Given that I'm looking for a low barrier to entry solution I think the TM16000 is the way to go to start, and then later build up to a more costly set of controls if I find I enjoy that, but I would be curious what your recommendations would be for getting into this hobby at different skill stages and price stages. Perhaps there is a video or two there where you could break down potential solutions, both by skill and and price point? Anyhow, always enjoy your videos, keep up the great work!

These should be much less expensive, I can't justify spending nearly $900 on a control rig setup. Although I'd do maybe 400 and maybe 500... But I've been playing with some open source options. I'm working with a group of students at the local community college, from Machine techs, networking (me) and software development to get something working using a simple controller. Right now our concept control board costs about $65 in parts and $30 in machined metal. But with 3D printers, this could come down A LOT.

Does anyone know if they (Virpil) or someone who has written a mod have come up with a way to program the LED's individually ? So in other words, I want just one LED to control the HOOK in an F18 for example for the hook down state of green, and then that same LED push-button turns red when depressed for Hook UP state. So one LED push-button doing two colors depending on the state of the HOOK in the F18. I'm not picky, how about two different LED push-buttons, one would be HOOK UP as Red when ON (lit), and below it another LED button light would be HOOK DOWN GREEN. Perhaps someone has written something, perhaps spad.next or another program or a custom written mod. But ideally, VIRPIL will write something so the firmware gets updated and then suddenly we get to control each and every light with anything we want to do!!!!!! ANY HELP FROM ANYONE THAT HAS FIGURED THIS OUT WOULD BE SUPREMLEY Appreciated!!!!! So far I've only been able to do this to ONE LED push-button, just one..

Can't speak for this panel, but I find the extra buttons on the throttle I use (CM2) add quite a bit of usefulness. I fly HOSAS too and it lets me move non-essential controls off the sticks. Means I don't have to memorise as many button functions on the sticks, particularly once you start binding left-ctrl functions in.
