Being the owner of a 16' ST, I can say that they are super comfy and would make badass sim rig seats. I've half thought about pulling out my passenger seat and just making anyone ride in the back. Having owned all Logitech versions from the wingman to the g29 I'm ready to upgrade and the T300 price and performance is attractive. Based on my experience I've had to assess my options on the possibility of being able to purchase parts for repairs.

    • @socks2441
      @socks2441 Před 2 lety +2

      did you upgrade and was it worth it? if i upgrade i want it to feel like a big difference to make it worth it. i could either upgrade to the t300rs gt for about $950nzd including a 3rd party h shifter, or to the fanatec csl dd with pedals and rim + the same third party h shifter for about $1800NZD... not sure which to pick. i know the csl dd setup would be better in every way, but it will be complicated to buy as they dont ship to my country, so freight forwarding, import costs etc. also its double the price of the t300rs. but the t300 will not be a very big upgrade over the g29... and in some aspects (the pedals) its even worse. also its lucky ive found a good h pattern shifter alternative as the thrustmaster h shifter is almost as much as the damn wheel, lol. too much. the g29 shifter for example was only $50nzd, and the wheel was only $350nzd. so 400 all up. hmmm.
      this is a tough decision.

    • @gasixteenb11
      @gasixteenb11 Před 2 lety +1

      @@socks2441 if you are planning to upgrade and can afford the DD equipment then go for that. For me I had to make an emergency decision and it worked for me. The MAIN thing I haven't mentioned since my official review is not done as yet into week #3 is whilst in ACC, I can now tap PS button and go to ps home menu functions without the wheel disconnecting or trying to fracture my wrist when it is calibrating again. I've used it on AC as well and won't be doing that again soon until I've learned how to reduce the FFB as when returning to ACC the FFB was amplified causing the engine vibrations etc to be felt as soon as I started the car and I was forced to adjust trueforce audio and gain to the lowest value just to drive without distraction. When it comes to build quality i have to go with DD as something no review covers it the delay in relaying what you do to the car in game. That delay which has been addressed somewhat in ACC by including adjustable settings for throttle and brake still exist in all low end wheels using cheap circuits and electrical connections or poor quality resulting in resistance to signal flow costing you seconds.

    I can add some long term insight:
    Disclaimers: 1) everyone has different likes/dislikes so my preferences may not match yours. 2) I am comparing a 2008 Logitech G25 to a 2018 Thrustmaster T300 Alcantara edition (The current Logitech wheels look very similar to, and share the same architecture as their old wheels. However, their manufacturing practices or quality control may have changed)
    I am a fairly serious sim-racer, I am in no way an e-sports professional, however I have raced in leagues beside iRacing world champions. I do not have a dedicated rig, i use an office desk.
    My 2008 Logitech G25 died a noble death in 2018 during a major race. Many of the internal plastic structures broke and that caused the steering column to float within the wheel housing. Electronically the wheel continued to function, because I continued to drive in that race for another 2.5 hours (with the wheel floating around freely). But at the time of this failure, the petals still worked completely issue free, the shifter was fun (although i generally used the paddles), the desk clamp still worked great and was still ROCK solid, basically everything was well and good until the internal structure let go.
    I ended up replacing it with a T300 Alcantara edition. I liked the rim, the alcantara was very nice, the extra buttons were a god-send. However, the pedals were immediately a noticeable down-grade. The T300 petals were very soft and squishy and feeling-less (compared to my 10 year old Logitechs). The lack of a shifter was a let-down. The desk clamp on the T300 was terrible: it was a nuisance to use and was never tight enough, the wheel always slipped on my desk no matter how hard I tightened it down. I really didnt notice any difference in the Force FeedBack going from one to the other, and it didn't change my lap time (mind you all those claims of different wheels or pedal springs making you faster is pure marketing BS).
    It seems that I am being very negative towards the Thurstmaster, welp there's the rub. I got 10 years out of my G25, and it worked great right up to the day that it all went wrong. 18 Months after buying the T300, the petals started spiking very badly (disassembly and blowing out with an air compressor and contact cleaner is a common occurrence now). At 20 months, the desk clamp broke entirely (I installed studs in the bottom of the wheel and drilled holes in my desk so i can take the wheel on and off with wing nuts). Now at 28 months, the wheel sits on my floor disassembled because the power supply has failed. Research has taught me that this is a common fault and there are home-brew solutions that I am currently undertaking.
    If these repairs are not successful and I need to replace this wheel, I'm going Logitech.

      Hey, on the matter of your thrustmaster not clamping down or it sliding sround. Only about 1/3 of the thrustmaster needs to be on the table. If you look underneath, the front 1/3rd on the bottom is a bit lifted, that edge goes around your desks edge.
      I have an old 12 year old logitech wheel too, and whilst it did hold up really well and it does indeed still work, it is nowhere near as good as tbe t300 i just bought. Maybe you got some bad pedals or something cause mine feel too hard, not too soft...
      Anyhow, i love the t300, and so far ive not noticed any of the problems you described

    I wanted to get the T300RS GT but went with G920 since I accidentally found it in store for 169 euros + shifter for 35. I think that logitech should sell it around for 200 euros with the shifter since it's a decade old design. To justify 400 euros that they're asking for new models that are exactly the same as older ones they'd need to at least go from gears to a belt to get rid of the clunk.

    I'm a huge logitech fan but the Logitech G923 Sim wheel isn't the most pleasant wheel to use in sim racing. There's a lot of rattling due its force feedback which a deaf person could hear the next house over. overall, the Thrustmaster T300 RS GT is such a better wheel at the price point of which Logitech is asking for. belt driven is so much better.

    I swapped my T300 RS for a G923, the logitech pedals are a massive margin better on carpet floors with the carpet grips on the bottom, the wheel itself and the pedals are a hell of a lot better quality, the brake pedal feel on the T300 RS is very lifeless even with the rubber thing installed, i dont mind the sound the G923 makes (this video makes it sound a lot louder than it is), its a small tradeoff when you consider the dissapointment in the quality of the T300 RS, it also feels better when driving. The T300 felt a bit lifeless compared to the G923. I wouldnt go back. Rather than buying a T300RS, then upgrade the wheel you would be better off buying a Fanatec direct drive unit, the CSL is only a little bit more than both these wheels and would be a good competitor to these two.

    I also like to add stay away from fanatec CSL, it's a poor corner cut version of the old CSR entry wheels that Fanatec decided to take out of production, most likely because nobody was buying their overpriced junk. T300 GT edition is simply the best wheel buy for the price now.
    I use a CSR elite and a modded version of the g25 shifter with a standalone adapter and a larger metal stick for better reach. That is the best shifter logitech has made.
    I have a CSR, CSR Elite, Clubsport, G25, G27, G29, T300RS GT and the CSL which cost me 700€ just to get a complete set with pedals and shifters and in the end it wasn't even comparable quality to the 300€ CSR elite so it was sent back to Fanatec in Germany, Fanatec like to sell their racing equipment seperate instead of complete sets so you pay more, for that reason and the lack of build quality these days i can only advice anyone to avoid them unless you have around 2000-2500€ for a Clubsport set which is the best wheel currently in existence.
    For that amount of money you can get a good amount of parts for a cockpit.

    I used for so many years a Logitech Momo, that in the end I briefly tried a G27 of a friend and found a G29 for like 160 eur brand new.. went for it and never looked back; I've repaired the Momo and gifted it to a friend, which had a Microsoft Wheel xD. At that price you get a T150, which imho isn't a bad wheel per se, but those stock pedals are horrible compared to the G29.
    Here the G923 is 280ish, the T300RS GT is 330-350. Considering the price of the shifter (which is 40ish vs 150ish) it really gets expensive, to go the Trustmaster way, albeit admittedly it's an overall significantly better quality product as whole.
    I'm happy to have spent literally nothing for my G29 and I hope it will last as my old Momo, that is still going after more than 15 years. For casual sim racing it was the good choice, should you go doing high level multiplayer racing, then probably T300 or T500 or direct wheel are the way to go.

    If you’re watching this in 2022. If you’re planning on buying a sim wheel and you’re leaning towards the Logitech wheel because you’re thinking to yourself that it’s cheaper and you could buy the Logitech wheel and shifter for less than what the t300 wheel cost. Save your money and buy the t300. As someone who bought the g29, I mean I do like it and it does the job. But after using its for a few months you’re going to start going on Amazon or eBay looking for different mods to either change the steering wheel and maybe even change the H shifter to a sequential. And then you’re going to realize that all those 3rd party mods you’re looking at. It’s a standard upgrade for the t300. In the end I ended up selling my g29 and replaced it’s with a t300. And now in 2022, I was looking a the new Logitech direct drive, but I know that if I bought that I’m probably going to wish I just bought a fanetic. Me personally I’m just going to save up for a fanetic wheel.

Not sure what you did when clamping the G923 base, but it was obviously wrong. It appeared you left it very loose on purpose. The leather grip on the Logitech steering wheel is much better than the Thrustmaster rubber grip. I also prefer the Logitech pedal setup and really like the progressive braking resistance. It feels like applying the brakes in a real car. And the Trueforce steering technology of the Logitech sealed the deal for me. But it is all personal preference. The Logitech is my favorite and even at the $430 I paid for it I am very happy with it. I don't cry about price tags. Good luck to all whichever one you choose.

    Awesome reviews. I like the depth if information you offer.
    One note, in New Zealand where I'm from, the thrustmaster 300RS is NZ$800, whilst G29 are around $400 to $500 and the G923 are $550 to $650. The shifter is $80 to $100 for Logitech, and around $100 for the Thrustmaster.
    I wonder why Thrustmaster is the more expensive wheel here? 🤔

    • @millmuff1
      @millmuff1 Před 3 lety +2

      Yeah, this is the case everywhere. Not sure why it isn't mentioned in the review, especially given that he regularly references the G29 in the comparisons. In Canada the TM is $600, G923 $500, and G29 $350. Based on the reviews of these products the G29 is clearly the best for the price.
      The reviewer stated the TM stock options feel cheaper. as well and showed options for upgrades but those come with a price tag. So if you upgrade you're going to add another $250-400. Honestly, the comparisons are a bit apples to oranges because the price ranges are so drastically different.

    I don't know about others but it's weird he keeps comparing these to the G29. In Canada the Thrustmaster model is around $600, the 923 is $500 and the G29 is $350. • @morgfarm1
      @morgfarm1 Před 2 lety +5

      That's a PLUS in Sim Racing. You have to recall that brakes in actual race cars are much stiffer than your passenger car for brake force. F1 cars, for example, require A LOT of force to apply brake pressure. Same with 18 wheelers, too, if you're into ETS2 or ATS. Food for thought. That's one advantage of a load-cell type, FULL Brake is however much weight you can put into the pedal. With the Potentiometer sensors (like in these lower tier solutions) it's all about range of motion. If i were you, I'd keep your solution and simply use it more and adjust to it. I've been Sim racing since 2008 and I've had the same G27 since 2015. I'm starting to look towards replacing it and the T300 is looking promising so far. And I've been loyal to Logitech since 2009.
