Big fan of your video!!! What is your view on the Portuguese Monarchy? Do you think they fail or made Portugal a prosperous nation? Do you think the President of Portugal could be replaced with a King, kind of like Spain, Belgium, or the United Kingdom? Could you do a video on all the kings? Thanks for your opinion, have a great day!

Usually Portugal had little more than commercial outposts....

The ironical dispute between Portugal and Spain is very similar to the relationship between brazilians and argentines or sometimes with Mexico or another latin american country.
Difference is only the size, qith Brazil being the giant and Argentina being the smallest.
In fact, Brazil alone dominate the landscape in South America, despite the spanish speaking countries having the majority of land and people.
It isn't. Rarely (if ever), after Dom Pedro II, has Brazil come into direct land/border conflict with Argentina. They have conquered territory from Uruguay and Paraguay, bought land from Bolivia and, if I remember well, not much else. Brazil is a gentle giant, most of the time - or at least it intends to be thought of as such.
Brazilians rule on that game.
Sadly it's like the only thing they are good at.

A few mistakes: The Castilian Succession war was: Joanna la Beltraneja against Isabella of Castile and Leon, not of Aragon, that was Ferdinand, her husband (they were queen and king of different kingdoms). So If Joanna had won that war Castile et Leon would have been unified, but not Aragon.
And the "spanish" or "the spanish kingdoms" doesn't exist until the 16c, before that they were Castile and Leon, Aragon and Navarre (as independent as Portugal until the marriage of Isabella and Ferdinand)
Thanks for the lesson. It was very interesting.

How Portugal Has The Same Border Since 1297 if you ignore Olivença, Couto Misto, Azores and Madeira, Napoleonic wars (they did de facto conquer some territory for a bit) and united kingdom with Brazil.
Couto Misto was technically a part of both kingdoms (Castille/Spain and Portugal). When the country was absorved, the inside borders stayed intact, so borders actually didn't change.
In the islands, borders also didn't change because... well, they are islands!
Brazil was outside of Europe, and he is only comparing with the rest of Europe, ignoring territories outside of Europe.

Who Cares about Olivença? We want all Galiza!
Can't believe you forgot the epic Couto Mixto.
Technically nothing changed with Couto Misto because nobody was affected by it (and even when Couto Misto existed, the country was technically a part of the two kingdoms).
In 1801 Portugal lost the city of Olivença to Spain after the war of Orange against Spanish backed by Napoleon.
In 1809 French were defeated by Wellington at Porto and retreated to Spain.
The specificity of the Portuguese society was the large number of villages and lower nobles independent from the grandees. So most of the time the Grandees were not powerful enough to plot against the state, and foreign invasions were countered by the mobilization of a very large part of the population, concerned with their freedom ("ordenança" during 18th-19th century)..
I was wondering why you pronounced the portuguese names so well. You are portuguese !! :D I've been following your amazing work for a long time and I had no idea. Congratulations on the fantastic work! ABRAÇO :)

@@aderitodealmeida5644 Portugal was an extremely aggressive presence and became the leading slaving power off the East African coast, Persian Gulf and western India, fighting in particular against the Ottoman Empire, a fellow European/Mediterranean Power at the time. The east African slave trade was no less significant than the western. In that sense, Portugal meddled extensively in the interests of other nations, European, African and Asian, many of which interests had been long-established.
@@BigStib , Indian Ocean Salve trade similar (in size) to the Atlantic one? FALSE!

Hi. Good video. Only one comment : Isabel became Queen of Castile, not Aragon. Her husband, Ferdinand, was the King the Aragon. For long time the Kings of Castille and Aragon dreamt abut creating a unified Iberian Kingdom. Maybe that also explains why Spain most of the time tried to keep peace with its Portuguese neighbor. Additionally, the Spanish and Portuguese royal families were connected by blood links in an attempt to keep peace.

Sou português mas sim isso é verdade e não devemos julgar porque estamos no século 21, os espanhóis são nossos irmãos 👍
I will not downplay the invaluable British help during the Napoleonic wars, but as far as the 1383-1385 Interregnum is concerned, the English "help" was so insignificant it isn't even worth mentioning.
The English literally only fought in 1 battle in the entire war, and only had 200 men in that battle, that's *nothing* compared to Castile's 31000.
There were wars when English/British help was crucial, there were others where it made no difference whatsoever.
The interregnum was one of the latter.
Yes I did it I skipped the raid shadow legends add
It's like Switzerland in WWII lol
well, Switzerland is in a position where they are too high up to invade properly and as a country that speaks 4 of the surrounding countries' languages it was a good neutral ground.

Ok.entao dá vistos a toda a gente. Pt é que ficava better off.Vai lá ver a quantidade de tugas nos Palop primeiro e depois vemos quem fica better off.
