      Big fan of your video!!! What is your view on the Portuguese Monarchy? Do you think they fail or made Portugal a prosperous nation? Fernando Pessoa already knew that Portugal prefers the sea:
    The Two Castles
    Europe lies, reclining upon her elbows:
    From East to West she stretches, staring,
    And romantic tresses fall over
    Greek eyes, reminding.
    The left elbow is stepped back;
    The other laid out at an angle.
    The first says Italy where it leans;
    This one England where, set afar,
    The hand holds the resting face.
    Enigmatic and fateful she stares
    Out West, to the future of the past.

    And the "spanish" or "the spanish kingdoms" doesn't exist until the 16c, before that they were Castile and Leon, Aragon and Navarre (as independent as Portugal until the marriage of Isabella and Ferdinand)

    In 1801 Portugal lost the city of Olivença to Spain after the war of Orange against Spanish backed by Napoleon.
    In 1809 French were defeated by Wellington at Porto and retreated to Spain.
    The specificity of the Portuguese society was the large number of villages and lower nobles independent from the grandees. So most of the time the Grandees were not powerful enough to plot against the state, and foreign invasions were countered by the mobilization of a very large part of the population, concerned with their freedom ("ordenança" during 18th-19th century)..

For long time the Kings of Castille and Aragon dreamt abut creating a unified Iberian Kingdom. Maybe that also explains why Spain most of the time tried to keep peace with its Portuguese neighbor. Additionally, the Spanish and Portuguese royal families were connected by blood links in an attempt to keep peace.

    I will not downplay the invaluable British help during the Napoleonic wars, but as far as the 1383-1385 Interregnum is concerned, the English "help" was so insignificant it isn't even worth mentioning.
    The English literally only fought in 1 battle in the entire war, and only had 200 men in that battle, that's *nothing* compared to Castile's 31000.
    There were wars when English/British help was crucial, there were others where it made no difference whatsoever.
    The interregnum was one of the latter.
