  • This video will show you how to replace the external inline fuel filter on a 2004 Chevy Tahoe. This process will be the same for 2002-2006 5.3L Silverado/Sierra 1500, Tahoe, Yukon, and Suburban. This process and filter will also work on 1997-2005 4.3L Blazer, 1997-2004 4.3L S10, and the 1997-2000 2.2L S10. The fuel filter and special low-profile fuel disconnect tool were purchased from Amazon below are links to those products.

    Just tried this tonight with the “special tool” 2 hours of frustration and I gave up lmao. I changed mine last about 50k miles ago. Used a metal set of the fuel line disconnect pliers on the other end of the short line. It was still a pain but it worked. Should have just stuck with that method again lol

    I have an 03 Suburban with a 5.3L Flex Fuel engine. I only use regular gas for better mileage. The parts are different regardless of which gas you use. (Flex fuel when 8th character in VIN is a "Z")
    I mention this because the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator are different. The fuel pressure is different as well. I don’t believe the non-flex fuel 5.3L engines have a serviceable fuel filter but I am not positive.
    It's good you mention the "low profile" fuel line tool as the standard size fuel line tool is too long to fit in that tight space.
    Good video!

    • @BLUECOLLARGARAGE
      @BLUECOLLARGARAGE  Před 2 lety +1

      Sounds like you have a clogged or kinked fuel tank breather hose. If the tank builds up to much pressure when pumping gas it shuts off. Have you tried pumping gas on the lowest setting of the nozzle or tried tipping the nozzle upside down while pumping?

    • @BLUECOLLARGARAGE
      @BLUECOLLARGARAGE  Před 2 lety +1

      No I believe the 2001 tahoe is different so I think you got the right one and you shouldn't need the special line disconnect tool like I used in the video. Should only need a couple wrenches preferably a line wrench on the fuel line side.

      Do you have flex fuel or gasoline only? From what I've seen the gasoline filters have threads on both ends and the flex fuel filter has threads on one end and the locking nipple thing on the other end.

    I've had problems with mine, when sitting an an idel, the rpms will start bouncing from like 450 to 750, and when it's not doing it, it will sit at a constant 750 healthy idel, no check engine lights or reduced engine power modes, and I've replaced the cam sensors, throttle body position sensor, throttle body, air intake, air intake, all 8 spark plugs and all I spark wires and the ignition, I ran fuel treatment, I've noticed it does it more on hills, so I'm now going to replace the fuel filter, and maybe pump if it doesnt fix it, have you had any similar issues or know what could cause somthing like this?

    Ford went to these inline filters on my 2000 F150. I HATE them!!! '84/302 had a throttle body mounted filter. 2 wrenches and presto. Done. Those little locking tabs are a major PITA to get off. I'm not a fan of cheap plastic replacing the metal retainer on a fuel line though. Thanks for including that! I like Wix and Mahle filters. K+N as well..Napa Auto sells Wix as "Napa Gold". I want one without the plastic. One commenter was right. Pop the retaining strap and give yourself more space to work with. '00 F 150 that retaining band is welded on and rots in 🇨🇦 salt. Your stuck with removing the clips as is.
    Gotta say I was NEVER a fan of the General. Ford guy all my life. Won't even look at Fords now. That said. This '04 Sierra is actually easier to work on then my '00 F150. Good trucks! Why GM messed that up with AFM and TVs and ball warmers and spotty trannies for $80K+ instead of a stick and roll down windows and the current BS with Barra limiting production to keep the prices skyhigh is a shame. That 5.3L is otherwise a good motor. Easier to work on.
    Vulva oops Volvo ever goes back to making Brick cars they'll clean up. Me included. I want a Milkot. Can't buy em here. Someone stop this insanity. They only have to be pickup trucks. Not Cadillacs with a bed.
