Congrats to Markiplier for overcoming his fears of mannequins and gaining a fear of tables.
his recording setup is on a table 😨
I have a fear of chairs at the end of hallways… I don’t know why it just creeps me out
@@Ghost500A it probably seems unsettling since it's not normal
it's credenza actually
@@Ghost500A
Oh boy, you would "love" anything liminal space.
Like seeing a hallway lined with lawn chairs, the cheap plastic kind, facing a wall that just ends in a dead hallway so you turn around to leave and hear a spontaneous cheering applause which causes you to turn around and see the neatly limed chairs all haphazardly facing you and the only movement you see is a chair at the far back falling to its side
I love the fact that he played so many horror games that he litterally predicted about every jumpscare in the game and gets mad when they happen when he says dont do it 😂
@@mirjinou7999DO YOUR HOMEWORKS ALREADY DAMN !
After 25 years of gaming, it's hard to be surprised anymore. Luckily there are a few horror movies these days that are original.
@@lordfordification i mostly agree with this comment. currently trying my hand at the Layers of Fear Remastered, some predictable scares but theres quite a bit that catches me off guard, the SHEER variety of scares in that game is frightening.
@@Nu_Merick see, maybe I'm not immersed enough at times, I'm excited for the sequel. I believe the next level of horror is coming with unreal engine 5 and VR. Jump scares aren't the answer, it's been done in almost every way that it's not shocking. When Dead Space came out back in the day it blew my mind. You would turn around believing that obviously a necromorph will pop out of the vent behind me, meanwhile, when you turned around the monster would pop out of a vent, in what is now, behind you. The next level is realism. Hopefully that game, ILL, is actually real and comes out one day.
@@Nu_Merick alien isolation was wild until you learned the behaviors. I love when you hide from a monster or killer in a game and they check the locker next to you, or you didn't hide fast enough but the game makes you think you did and the monster still checks under the bed. Evidently, thirteen-year olds know how to scare the ever-loving crap out of everybody
Not a single one of these got me, but I still thought it was incredibly impressive for a 13-year-old kid to have made. Then again, I used to annoy my colleagues on the night shift for just smiling calmly and saying hi when they tried to jumpscare me, so maybe being anxious all the time means you are nearly immune to jumpscares. Bonus, I guess!
@@WynneLtrue, but whenever I watch horror video game play throughs I tend to relax (if I can’t sleep I’ll sometimes put on a horror game) so if there’s a good jumpscare and I’m half asleep, it’s getting me 😂
You can definitely tell it has a 13 year-olds sense of what is scary. No dis on them, but there were several moments like the “im one of them now” “soon youll be too” was very much preteen edginess. Plus the either completely random or the most predictable jump scares.
You know, Gerard Way had a reason to be scared of all those teenagers after all
I mean, some of the most fun I had, when I was 13, was hiding and jumping out when people least expected it. So it tracks.
13!? This kid is 13 and made this game in two weeks!? Wow! I do believe we have a future horror game creator on our hands. CAPCOM, snag this kid up!

I agree, except for being hired by Capcom, usually big names have shitty work schedules and would just kill the dude's creativity. I think he should instead gather a small team and keep working on his own projects, eventually making it to the big leagues.
Right?! This kid could easily become an indie game sensation and not have to do crunch or bad schedules with his talent, but boy does he deserve to make it big! I am still flabbergasted that someone that young is already so talented, and I hope he continues to keep up the amazing work!

I like how the monster just scares you, puts you in another hallway, and then waits for the right moment to scare you again.
I was a little critical of the game at first, but knowing that it’s made by someone at age 13 in 2 weeks completely changes my perspective on this. It’s far better than something I, an adult, could make in a year. I think they have a future in making games and I will watch their career with great interest

Dude, you have to keep making games. This was genuinely really well done, and I'm sure you'll have a long, bright future of videogame creation ahead of you if you pursue it. Doing this at only 13 is incredible, I really hope you keep at it.
Nobody is talking about Mark’s really smart idea for a beginning of a game. Making the Home Screen a part of it? That sounds awesome and would want me to keep playing.
It reminds me of the start of one of the chapters in I'm Scared.
They did something like that in the first Infamous game. At the start screen, you see Empire City bustling about on a normal day, but as soon as you start, the Ray Sphere detonates and everything goes to hell.

Something about the player realizing slowly that they need to do something here, or they’re screwed, sounds like the funniest thing

I actually really enjoyed that, too.
Also, the room with the garbage grinders was literally right after Mark complaining about the usage of gurneys. It was almost like the creator was like, "yeah, but have you seen THIS in a horror game?"
For being made by a 13 year old this game hints at a lo of psychological things. Obviously the spaces getting tighter but also the gurneys, which in a way remind people the inevitability of death. These things may be things that were just picked up from playing other horror games but it's still really cool.

1:35 Narrow passages similar to this were quite common in old manors and wealthy estates. They were used to allow servants to move around the building and go to and from various rooms or areas without travelling down the main hallways.
These passages were quite extensive, even including secret stairs behind the larger, grander staircases used by the wealthy lords and ladies. This was all done so that the servants could perform their duties, while at the same time being as out of the way and out of sight as much as possible.
I wonder if this was helpful to the servants, or demeaning? Fascinating info though, where do you learn stuff like this?
Probably the latter@@miniespeon158

Thank you for answering this so I don't feel the need to. But yeah old houses had this a lot, though the servant thing kind of what's limited to certain geographical areas. It was more of a practicality and space utilization thing as well as load-bearing wall structure thing in old structures in areas where people didn't have servants. I could always tell when a house is a little over 100 years old based on the really narrow hallways, actually it might be close to around 120 years old now. Gosh darn it ended up adding to the conversation and I just meant to say thanks for making it so I didn't have to.
16:25 the Gurney's aren't scary so much as the association, you really only see those when someone is near death whether it's from sickness or injury, or to transport bodies. Seeing a room full of Gurneys makes your brain immediately associate that with 'death happens here'

@@Talondronethat’s what I immediately thought of 😂😭
I’ve had a similar idea to what mark mentioned at the beginning of the video. It’s just an idea, though. I’m not a game developer.
Anyway, I thought about a wakeup sequence where you calmly sit up in bed. It’s day outside and the sunshine hitting the white curtains on your windows lights your room up nicely.
You take the covers off of you and slide over to the edge of the bed. You look to your left and see a bottle of pills and are prompted to take them. You pick up the bottle and suddenly, an explosion shatters the silence and sends you tumbling outside of your home on and onto the street a story below. Your head is spinning, your vision is blurry, and you’re injured, but you manage to catch a brief glimpse of the monster that did this. You see they are preparing to attack again.
You muster up the strength to get up and a chase sequence begins. You run through the streets, only now realizing that the world has gone to hell. Abandoned cars, dead bodies, and debris from destroyed buildings crowd the street and cut off some paths.
You narrowly avoid attack after attack before finding shelter in some creepy abandoned place. Maybe a sewer or an abandoned building. From this point forward, a more or less traditional horror experience can begin.
I just thought this would be a different intro to horror games. Most horror games start off slow and slowly build tension. There’s nothing wrong with that approach but I think it would be cool to see something like this in a horror game.

A credenza is a wide, low to the ground, shallow dining room sideboard with several storage cabinets, typically with no legs, and a polished top which can be used as a buffet table.
In the Middle Ages, it was customary for members of noble families to have a servant taste their food before it was served to ensure it didn't contain poison. The tasting was done at a dining room sideboard buffet table. This table would eventually be referred to as the credenza, which is Italian for "confidence", as they wanted to be confident that they weren't being poisoned by their enemies.
For those who dont know (had to Google it) a credenza is a dining room sideboard or display cabinet, usually made of burning and polished wood and decorated with marquetry. The top would often be made of marble, or another decorative liquid- and heat-resistant stone.
