Mark at 29:30 creating the most complicated geometrical staircase to get up to the gazebo when all you had to do was take a pic of the ceiling and place the picture on the ground is hilarious
I'm pretty sure taking a picture of a wall doesn't take into account what's behind the wall, just like in real life
I just played through the game myself, and they're right lol. Taking a pic of the ceiling and putting it down lets you just fall to the gazebo and continue on with the level.@@kajak8979

I love this just as much as Mark does. It's just so dreamcore meets liminal spaces, and art??? Chef's kiss.
If you liked this game, then I recommend you play a recently released game called Viewfinder. Same basic concept; pictures that you either find or take can be placed into the environment. The differences being that the puzzles are trickier and over the course of it's 5 to 6 hour runtime, it introduces little mechanics to make the game more interesting and challenging.
I'd be really interested in seeing Mark play it.
I was thinking the exact same thing haha. Jerma played it and it was a really cool thing to watch.
As soon as I saw the camera, I thought for certain that had to be an inspiration- I was letting it pass with the pictures already existing, but nahh, not with the camera as well
The developer actually credits Viewfinder in their notes (found in the link in the description). They said this game was an experiment and that they wanted to recreate the mechanics from Viewfinder.
Also there's a talking cat. This matters
Watched Aliensrock play it, definitely more of a puzzle game vibe, which might not be something Mark will really have the patience to get into.
The setup at 11:45 is just genius. A jumpscare and a gag all for putting the player in a situation where they really don't want to proceed. I agree with Mark though that the payoff could have been even better.
The amount of dread and horror the game could apply to players past that point if the thing in the picture just didn't appear after the painting went away would be insane
@@byemax. Agreed. Don't show the silhouette appearing at all. Then maybe throw in a few random extra footsteps behind the player while they're walking around for the rest of that level.
I love love love when Mark plays games like this. His tendency to just sort of play around and see what happens is PERFECT for this game.
Mark doing a big brain move to get up the stair level with one picture, and then not realizing he could've just taken a picture and fallen on the gazebo is such a mark move

If he won, he didn't do it wrong 😁
While I'm sure there are some game devs that are that closed minded, most people who make puzzle games expect (and encourage) innovative solutions. Anyone who makes a puzzle game intending for everyone to follow a single path is a fool.
I played this game myself and I completed the staircase and ledge section (where he used the ceiling) by just taking a photo of the door and putting it underneath me. He even figured out how to do exactly that earlier in the game too.
I just know Ken forest is kicking his feet in the air rn from Marks reaction 😂😂😂
I think this is an amazing proof of concept and would make for an amazing game with some minor additions to the mechanics. Namely that whenever you place an image the created objects have physics that interact with other objects. Like you take a picture of a fire to place the fire on some wood to set the wood on fire, take a picture of a heavy object to place it so it falls and breaks another object, and more. Placing images to create objects for traversal is a great starting point and a game that expands on that mechanic would be really cool.
I don’t think enough people are talking about the setup at 11:40. It was so beautifully done, it created tension which many games fail to create nowadays. When watching someone else play a scary game, you fail to feel the fear with them, but this one genuinely creeped me out.
