💫 Being human is a given. But keeping our humanity is a choice - Zábava
This song is somewhat haunting and almost dreamlike in some ways. It gets you caught up in the all the things you can feel about love.
This was the coolest song of 1989. It had it all.. it was bluesy and sexy wrapped up with his unique voice. Great reaction!
The video didn't hurt it's popularity in the slightest. ;-)
So glad you're back Bright Angel - This song is beautiful, and Chris has a modern Roy Orbison longing and loneliness in his voice.
Your right sounds like Roy. Saw Roy over 45 years ago. He came out, didnt talk to the audience, just stood there and introduced his song and sang. And we clapped till our hands were red. So glad to have seen him.
The first time I heard it.. I was certain Roy Orbison had a new song I never heard before.. lol. Amazing
Yes, the comparison with Roy Orbison is often cited in talk about Chris Isaak, and I'm pretty sure he cultivated that after being inspired by Orbison. But Chris Isaak has a great voice on his own, and he's very capable of hitting those high falsetto notes that are filled with longing. One thing I'm trying to figure out is a line that repeats in the song's chorus. Lyrics online always seem to show it as "I don't wanna fall in love". But I don't think that's what he's singing every time. After the first verse, he seems to be singing the words "I don't wanna fall in love" with the word "don't" sung very quickly and softly compared to the other words. Then after the next verses, he seems to be singing "I wanna fall in love," having changed his statement from denying the desire to embracing the desire to fall in love, only to have his heart broken. I don't trust the lyrics printed online. What do others think, if you listen carefully to those lines?
The video for this is a famous one...good looking people. Also Chris is still performing, there are some great live videos of him doing this song recently.
Chris has said in interviews that this song was inspired by an actual person and an actual event. Chris had a girl friend, maybe it was more of a girl that was a friend, and he said it was a toxic relationship. He knew that they were not good for each other but the sex was great! One night, early morning, she called him up sometime after midnight and asked him if she could come up to his apartment. He said ok. Between the time that he hung uptake phone from her and the time that she knocked on his door, Chris wrote this entire song! Chris has never disclosed who the girl is.
I relate to this story more than the original video. It makes the song more meaningful. I would love to see a video of this story redone with the song.
Loved the intro - ...& when he started singing I felt 'Elvis vibes'! 🙂
Chris Isaak’s lips look a lot like Elvis’s lips!!!
Actually, vocally, his hero is Roy Orbison.
This was a great performance. Chris has a beautiful, unique voice. Glad you liked this!! 😊
It's a mistake reviewing this song without the original video, because it's a piece of art and fits the song like a glove. Just saying.
Great reaction to a great song.
The song came out in 1989.
It’s nice to see your smiling face 😊
The official video is a classic.
Very softly the background singers are singing: "The girl is only gonna break your heart." Lust can sometimes be mistaken for love, but only for a short time, hence the end: "Nobody loves no one."
Isn't it "this world is only gonna to break your heart"
@@JasonBorn89 Well, HUH! You are correct! All these years I thought the line was about this loser girl that was using Chris, (which IS true) and she was only gonna break his heart. Seemed like a natural fit to me, and the voices are so faint in the background it is very difficult to hear. Looks like I tried to alter his lyric. GOOD CATCH there my friend!
Did you hear the background chorus ... "This world is gonna' break your heart." Haunting!
The singers actually felt the music in my day, loved Chris.. he looked so cool
Awesome to see you back Sushi!!!!!
You’ve got to see the official video…wow!
😊
The music video captured the feeling too
You really need the video with it to get the full effect of the song! But still a classic. Corey Taylor does a great cover of this song!!!
Yes, the Original black and white Video is Iconic and impressive .. Sometime, when you have a chance, please watch or react to it too, please 🥺 🥲 Thank you ☺
"No, I don't wanna fall in love with you..." Heart rending...
Chris has a nice catalogue of songs and he is great live. Great post and reaction , so nice to see you back. Stay safe and much love to you and yours.
This world is only gonna to break your heart. Very subtle in the background. Powerful song about unrequited love, or someone who leads another along.
Chris Isaak has a haunting voice that underscores the heartfelt meaning in his songs. They are romantic, passionate, and guilty of a breathtaking feeling that leaves its mark, while you are falling into and sometimes losing love.
More examples include
WRONG TO LOVE YOU,
DON'T MAKE ME DREAM ABOUT YOU,
and BABY DID A BAD THING. It's been a while. Enjoy
Uncle Bob from _That Thing You Do!_
And yes, the video puts this on another level. Gives the love story an emotional context.
The music back then expressed love more easily in song. Today it seems like love like song expressed is challenged by a world of malice, confusion, conflict and strife. Our contemporary songs reflect what we're feeling.
I almost didn't recognize you! It's been a while! Glad to see you back! This song is from like, the late 80s or early 90s. There's a video with Chris and supermodel Helena Christensen on a beach. I think some people might not notice it, but the video really drives the home the point if you watch her. He's kissing her and she's, like, looking off un the distance, biting her nails, etc. He loves her, but she isn't that into him. HaHaHa (Her character, that is. I don't pretend to know what Helena actually thought of Chris. HaHaHa)
Trivia for the day: Did you know she has a son (from a 5 year relationship) with Norman Reedus from "The Walking Dead"? I learned that like a year ago and it still blows my mind.
Such a haunting voice in this song
You have to watch the actual music video that goes along with it.
What a powerful song. Great reaction, young lady.
I think everyone of a certain age knows this song, or at least the video. The video had Chris rolling around in the surf with supermodel Helena Christensen. Needless to say, it was hot and sparked the imagination of many a young lad. 😉
Now you just need to hear Diana Ankudinova sing this song. If you don't know who she is, you are in for a treat.
Thank you for reacting to the song. It allows me to leave a message for someone very special. It didn't last very long at all. But the happiest I have ever felt. Was when a woman would put this on when she put her son to bed. Whenever I hear this song. It takes me back to those evenings. Still love you, Julie.
Hi, I'm French, this song by Chris Isaak is beautiful, an incredible voice, it gives me goosebumps. Just terrific.
Ta entièrement raison
Maybe the sexiest song ever. Seen him over 20 times, and his voice is even better live. Also has an extremely talented band.
A new one from France Who subscribes. I really like chris isaak, a great artist.
My fav Chris song Miss you Sushi~! World was on Fire now just smoldering... Welcome back... Now Iiiiiiiii want to fall In Love with You! Wicked Game you play...
Due to the sexuality of the original music video it caused a fair amount of controversy. Course today it's no big deal.
Want to die to this song. When I’m passing I want it in my ears. It’s the dreamland.
This was a popular song, back in the day.
And a more popular video.
I enjoy your reaction, incredible song 😊.
Just discovered you're back!! I love watching your reactions to the music I grew up with, particularly from the '70's, and when you comment on how great music was. You're right, it was! And it's wonderfully nostalgic to see you have the same reactions we all had once upon a time. Keep 'em coming!!
Timeless song for sure
Soulshine by The Allman Brothers. I LOVE YOU ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Good to see ya back bub.
Try Chris' "babby did a bad, bad, thing" 😲
Great song. Thanks for reacting Sushi!!!
His concerts capture you from start to finish. He sounds as good or better, his band are top-notch musicians and he's quite the entertainer. If you ever have an opportunity to see him don't miss out.
He did a wonderful sitcom on Showtime in ?? 2001 ?? for a couple of seasons. He was "Chris Isaak" an ordinery club-gig musician and his band, with a talent agent and all kinds of fun. The talent agent's antics were often like Lucille Ball in I LOVE LUCY, and Chris's bandmates often got entangled for each episode. Chris would 'escape' reality into a room away from everyone else, and he'd listen to this free-floating phantom mermaid. I'll never understand why this show never made it to home-video, but that failure is why I clear my nostrils in Showtime's general direction.
Over 30 years old, and I still can't think of a sexier song.
half my lifetime ago is when this came out, and I'm not 4 😅. . . so bit longer than two years ago as others have said....sounds as fresh as it ever did though. . . cheers for the company
Glad you're back !!! Love you and your reactions ♥️
Nice having you back. I love watching the emotions on your face as you listen. Thanks for the great reactions.
Gorgeous song and it always takes me back… it came out in 1989
Your facial expressions are excellent. He really does have a wonderful voice. Thanks for your reaction.
This song was released from his 3rd album. It stagnated in the 1989 Billboard charts. But it was re released into the soundtrack to the movie Wild at Heart.
Chris Isaak was born and raised in Stockton. But he moved to my hometown San Francisco 🌉. He was working on music 🎶 and went surfing 🏄♂ in his spare time. I am not sure if I ever met him. 🤔 He often played in the BAMMIES (Bay Area Music Awards) in the 1980s before this song blew up! 😃
He lists the late Roy Orbison, RIP, as an influence. 😎 And RIP James Wilsey, lead guitar in the studio recording and on touring guitar here.
Written by Chris Isaak. This song is so seductive! 🤯 when he sang this in Australia 🇦🇺 he caused TV 📺 journalist Melissa Doyle to faint! L 🤣 L
Music video 📹 Great. But model Helena Christensen was being a beach ⛱Ughh 😖. Fast forward to now. HC looks tired 😫 and old 👵. Chris Isaak looks in shape 💪 Surfing 🏄♂ does him great 👍
Suggested song 🎵 Chris Isaak sings San Francisco Days.
This is one of my all-time favorites. Thanks for doing this one!❤
This was on his third album released in 1989
I suppose everyone else already said it but, it is defiantly a wicked thing to do to play this song while looking at you... missed your face.
There's a really good cover of this song by the band Ursine Vulpine. The first time I heard any of this cover was on a Volvo commercial I believe.
It paints a nice ethereal mood. ✌️
Welcome back Sushi, it's been a long time. I still remember your reaction to the Righteous Brothers--Unchained Melody and that was my favorite reaction. Chris is so talented, he's from Stockton, California. This was his most iconic song, please check out some covers of it including Violet Orlandi--she's amazing. Thanks! Diana Ankudinova gave an excellent rendition of it.
Welcome back, Welcome back, Welcome back, good have you back and you are more beautiful than ever Sushi 🍣.
Beautiful song! And I always love your reactions, what a Sweetheart you are 💖💖💖
Lovely to have you back, 💕 from your New Zealand pals
I don't know what's going on with CZcams, but up till about a year ago everybody was using the videos on pretty much all the music. The official video is provocative and you would enjoy it better probably have to watch it on your own.
Good to have you back. Love to see you react to "Fast Car" . First the original by Tracy Chapman. Then the non- controversial new cover by Luke Combs.😂😊
They're both great.
Agree...a double reaction would be wonderful! Both songs are awesome in their own ways.
Nice to see you’re back sushi!
Didn’t know you were back! So good to see you again.
Don't know where u been or what u been up to...but am glad u are back!...always a pleasure seeing that pretty face...Thanks!!
Really need the video for this one though
Chris Isaak had another great hit in - Can't Do A Thing To Stop Me.
Love ya Sushi!❤️❤️❤️❤️
I see people wanting the official video but I think the live version is very impressive in an intimate sort of way! Great band too in the live version!
That accompanying video is exceptional though you are right in that the Live performance is really good.
This has always been one of my favorite songs
You're back!!! YAY!!!
Y'all should hear him live! He's singing about her playing him! Listen to the background vocals "love is only gonna break your heart"
* (this world is only gonna break your heart)
If I was to be reborn, this is the voice I would ask for…😉
Glad your back
You did this 1 before. We will just call this a "remastered reaction" 😂 the first time you did it to the official video to the song.
Your back again so awesome great video awesome great reaction by you again you always give great reaction on your youtube channel always thank you so much for sharing this video with us Sushi.🌹❤️🤗👍
U are back! and i was thinking...ok,lest go!
Baby did a bad thang! great song
And i’m glad you’re back ❤
Video is where it’s at. I forget the model in the video but she is gorgeous.
Yeah. Seeing her makes you understand that he's not really singing about love but about a kind of obsession. And, clearly, she's not a good person. He senses that it's all going to go horribly wrong, but he can't help himself.
Glad to see your back👍😎🎶
Glad you’re back. Welcome back again.
I didn't recognize you till u spoke so glad it's you. Hey, you have more Righteous Brothers songs to react to.😁
Good to see you back - great song and reaction.
Hey...welcome back its great to see you back here......
You need to watch the video on this song
Awesome video Too Sushi you are amazing love you Too Sushi
Listen, you nailed that initial vibe. That... i don't know, but holy shit vibe. This dude wrecks girls, in the nicest way. He just does.
Easily in my top 3 songs ever, and off the top of my head I couldn't tell you which the other 2 would be.
This song is gorgeous. I never fully understood the lyrics but it actually does not matter. Example: Is he saying, "I want to fall in love" or "I don't want to fall in love?" IT'S BOTH.
I don't want to fall in love with you... it's a toxic relationship but she's irresistible at the same time... it's a doomed relationship that isn't going anywhere... it's sad and beautiful... it's possible to fall in love even though it's not right and will never work...
@@lauraclark92 Thats not love its the other four letter word often mistaken for love - lust.
@@rogerdaly6326 I do respect your opinion, but in my opinion lust is fast and immediate and in the right context there's nothing wrong with it.. lust is that attraction that gets things going...I mean I guess this could be interpreted that way but lust is not a slow burn. This song is talking more about a slower burn I feel like. While lust may be involved it goes much deeper than that... it's not really love either because true love doesn't hurt like this which is the entire point of this song. It's a mind fuck for lack of a better expression. Someone is playing games with your emotions and your mind and making you believe something is there that really isn't.. hence the wicked game. I was doing my best to respond to the initial comment to clarify this song... I never really noticed but the way he sings it if your not understanding the meaning of the song or paying that close of attention it could sound like either... I want to fall in love or I don't want to fall in love but it's I don't want to fall in love...
This my jam!! 🙌🏽
Another Great singer that sounds a lot like Roy Orbison is Raul Malo of the Mavericks check out Foolish Heart, or I’m Wondering, both Are BEAUTIFUL!
Cold water has the same message. You might not his music. But it's the same thing. Loving someone no matter how much it hurts you.
Great song, glad you chose to react to it.
Watch the American Idol clip of him singing with a finalist.
Another wonderful reaction from the queen of reactions. You have to listen to Diana Ankudinova doing a cover of this song she knows how to do a cover song.
James Calvin Wilsey (RIP) on guitar!
Hope all is well sushi ❤
Great to see you again!
This is late 1980s.
Chris Isaak was kind of a country-rockabilly-cowboy guy with a 1950s vibe and some mainstream hits. Great singer, right?
He still is.
His voice wraps itself around you.
Great song. Love your reactions! FYI, I'm a man, and I think the way you do your eye makeup is perfect.
It's definitely a good song
Loved your reaction! 1:10 However, it's interesting that the words have changed since this release, instead of "Strange what desire will make foolish people do", it's on further releases as "strange what desire will make foolish LOVERS do...". Interesting. Thank you! xxxooxxx
