The first movie was were Spongebob truly ended for me. Not just because it felt like a powerful ending. But because Stephen Hillenburg wrote it as an ending.
Hello there.

It was made as a conclusion! But Viacom didn't want to get rid of a money maker.
if the first movie was where it ended for you, then what would the other seasons be considered to be by you? im curious is all, cause i agree! but if we say the movie was truly "the end" then is every other episode afterwards some bad after credits or something? i wish i knew how to word this better
After season 3 I'd say it has its ups n downs season 4 was good imo still had some terrific jokes and episodes but after it degrades on quality recent seasons I've heard are good

It makes no sense that Sandy is in Kamp Koral because there was an episode of Spongebob where he meets Sandy, so she shouldn't exist yet in Kamp Koral
SpongeBob and Squidward met when SpongeBob moved in too
An episode of kamp koral explained that sandy had to go back in time to prevent plankton from stealing the secret formula during the events of kamp koral so this show is in a different timeline than the base spongebob show.
Different universe 🤷🏾♂️
Same with mr krabs. He first met spongebob on the first episode
@@isomericgamer6644 Exactly.
Something I've noticed about 3D Spongebob, it never feels like it's underwater.
2D always does little things to give the impression that they're submerged.
That's a good point.
@@chadschmaltz9790 was actually able to see a good example in this video, when someone shakes their hands on the normal show, usually bubbles flutter around the hands to show emphasis, whereas on 3D....there's nothing.

I ain't watched the show, so I dunno if it has the bubble transitions too, but somehow I feel they never bothered.
Finding Nemo did it VERY well, the lighting on that film was AMAZING. Underwater, the constantly moving surface ripples refract light into glistening patterns on the sea floor. That detail is missing from the 3D SpongeBob films.
If they're going to do Spongebob spin-offs, they should do a Mermaid Man spin off, and have it be like the in-universe TV show that Spongebob and Patrick watch.

"Am I really gonna disrespect a dead man's wishes for money?.... *OF COURSE I AM!!* "
this isn't true hillenburg was the producer for 4 of the episodes. He wasn't sure about it but he knew Kamp Koral was coming.
_“The show is about SpongeBob, he’s the core element, and it’s about how he relates to the other characters. Patrick by himself might be a bit too much. _*_So I don’t see any spin-offs.”_* ~ Stephen Hillenburg
See the difference?
@@horaciosi I read this in Mr. Krabs voice
Aside from the fact that he worked on some of these episodes, Hillenburg's concern was mainly with spinoffs that focused on people that weren't Spongebob.
So this is _mostly_ fine, but that Patrick spinoff I've been hearing about can piss right off.
The biggest thing missing: Squidward’s golden luscious hair~

The animation has an almost pre production feel to it, it doesn't feel finished.
helo
The actual animation I like they are quite expressive and fun but the lighting and CGI looks like it isn't finished
@@dhan07404 That's probably a more apt description.
Watch the episode "Kitchen Sponge." That episode has the best animation especially at the end.
It reminds me of the Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom animation style, which, given the recent resurgent in popularity for the game, makes me wonder if this style is on purpose
Theres a problem with this prequel. In the actual spongebob show they have given us how each character met eachother. Spongebob moved into a pineapple that fell on squidwards garden, and patrick came over and they became friends. And in the first episode of spongebob, mr. Krabs met spongebob when spongebob came to get a job as frycook. And spongebob met sandy in the first season were he was invited for tea and cookies and he almost suffocated to death.
This show is an alternate timeline. Basically in one of the early episodes Kid Sandy gets a message from her adult self and is tasked with insuring that Plankton doesn't steal the Krabby Patty formula in order to prevent a apocalyptic future and Kid Sandy is at first unsure of doing something that will alter the past aka afraid of doing something that will result in the timeline this version of her adult self is from getting erased, or being radically altered to where it's unrecognizable, but Adult Sandy reassures that version of her kid self that nothing real bad is going to happen and at most all that's going to happen is the timeline will be splintered into multiple branches with one branch being the OG timeline we all know and love, one branch being the Kamp Koral timeline, and one branch being the The Patrick Star Show timeline, which is exactly what happens.
This is clearly an alternate timeline it's based off the newest movie where they recreated their backstories
Also, Mr. Crabs and Mrs. Puff also met each other for the first time in a Spongebob episode. The only people who knew each other from childhood on were Mr. Crabs and Plancton
I remember reading that Stephen Hillenburg really had to FIGHT to keep Spongebob as an adult, and he compromised with the execs by giving Spongebob the boating school setting. So that on top of the no spinoffs thing makes Kamp Koral feel extra insulting.
I thought we left the Cartoon Baby Versions behind in the 90s.
I grew up in that time and 2 decades later I still don't know what the appeal of it was. I can get aging them up but down? Was it some half-assed attempt at trying to be Rugrats?

Kamp Koral makes no sense, why is Sandy there when in the episode "tea in the treedome" we see Spongebob meet Sandy
The Kamp Koral episode "Kitchen Sponge" gives an explanation for this. If you don't want to watch it, I'll spoil it.

Stuff like this makes me glad that Ed Edd n Eddy ended the way it did.
Like Spongebob it started in 1999 and stopped before it suffered a franchise fatigue with a really satisfying ending.
Ed Edd n Eddy was in the same position as the Simpsons when you consider the behind-the scenes situation: they’re the longest running shows of their respective parent networks, & both of them happen to be the products of networks that are very cancel-happy when it comes to their original properties. The only real difference is the Eds got a proper resolution to their character arc.

Pretty sure he mentioned that issue in another video. I think what's ruining family guy, where he talks about how they should end and start fresh. Like tmnt or spiderman.
That’s weird that they never consider the same treatment to the Simpsons, Family Guy and Spongebob. It really speaks about their apathy about animation. One reason to never sell your characters. Keep them and make it into an independent webseries instead.
They should all just end completely, and end their stressful staying in business misery.
@geardog24 Exactly!
I did like the modern Looney Tunes show. I might rewatch it. They knew what to do and enjoyed it. It brings their quirkiness and spice and adds in the modernism of sitcomlike slice of life genres. I hate Sitcoms, with a burning passion that disney keeps fuelling. But I love slice of life.

He’s seen way too much.
I'm glad that old episodes of Spongebob often run past midnight on Nick Toons. It's nice to watch some classic humor while I eat a midnight snack. Especially Patrick. He was less dumb but still dumb. One of my favorite lines from Patrick was the episode where Spongebob broke his butt. Sandy asks him "Shouldn't you be stupid somewhere else?" and he responds with "Not until four." Get a chuckle out of me every time. Even as I write this comment.
I feel like early Patrick wasn't stupid he just took everything incredibly literally most of the time. He's great
You... do know that old Spongebob is litterally like... always on. Right?
@@glenncraigmeyer07 Maybe for you but not for me. Nick has other shows they broadcast and usually the old shows reliably play past midnight on nicktoons for me.
yeah, early patrick was definitely better than what he's been boiled down to. to quote spencer shay from icarly, "[he] may be an idiot, but [he's] not stupid." like yeah, it was definitely a bit slow & didn't understand most stuff half the time, but he also had great moments where he was witty in his own idiot way, & it was hecking great!
The problem is SpongeBob has been as the saying now goes Flanderized.
Every last character has been boiled down to a single basic characteristic and that is pretty much their entire character now.
Sandy is the worst example. Science is literally her only trait now.

The shading and coloring of the 3D animation for Kamp Koral REALLY gives me Fanboy and Chumchum vibes and that gives me wrong vibes
Okay legit I really felt like Spongebob should have ended after the movie. The first 3 seasons are absolutely hilarious and great. My roommates and I watched it within the last 2 years and we were all laughing and had nostalgia. The jokes hold up. The reason why the movie would have been a perfect ending point is because it would have completed the show arc of spongebob being a great employee. He finally became manager of the second Krusty Krab. If it ended like that we would have finally seen the childlike character truly make a huge step and become more adult. That was a decent theme in the movie. Although being adult while still having fun was another big thing too. They should have kept to that, but they had to keep going.
The movie was always supposed to be the end of spongebob but they kept it going for money
Yes much like the the early seasons of The Simpsons and Family Guy, SpongeBob in the beginning was excellent. But now it's just a bloated goose that still can lay somewhat valuable golden eggs.

A lot of the these shots look unfinished. Especially the scenes in Jellyfish Field. I actually really like a lot of the anination I've seen, but it needed refinement. The shading and mouths looks real grody sometimes.
The issue is the lighting. It’s too bright and makes the background look empty
The background feels way too big in some backgrounds
I also like the 3D animation and art style. The retconning really is the problem. And it's half-assed as well.
In the third movie, the child versions had kids voices, what happened to that? And wasn't Squidward a camper in the movie's flashback, but in the tv show he's a counselor..? And they tried TWICE (both movie and show) to retcon the origin of krabby patties, and Sandy doesn't even belong in the prequel.
Despite what I said, they are actually some parts of the spin-off that I like. Although it's not objectively as good as the first few seasons of the original show I have my own reasons for enjoying it. But it's trying way too hard to be relevant. We don't need a retcon.
Looking forward to that "What Ruined SpongeBob?" video. And I think you might enjoy the post-sequel era since Hillenburg was involved with that prior to passing away.

I'd love to see you try to map out a general timeline of the series as you watch the entire show. Especially because, according to a few CZcamsrs and reddit posts, Kamp Koral is an outright alternate timeline that the Sandy from the original found and contacted the version of herself in it.
I stopped actively watching like 8 years ago but this still makes me genuinely sad. Will anything be as special as those first couple of seasons ever again? Probably not.
The Spongebob Musical was amazing though.
If you haven't seen it, you can get a filmed version digitally on Amazon, and it's also now on Blue-ray.
They're a bit desperate to emulate the old seasons now; there are a few episodes that have brought back Nosferatu. They're trying to be relevant but the thing is he was a punchline, not a whole-ass character. They also had this part in Kamp Koral "Camp Nudist" where Sandy imagined herself doing art and the human hand from the original show's intro gave her a trophy. Like... That's not funny. My father is almost in his 70's; thus, he grew up at the time Looney Tunes were the "Spongebob" of the world. As such, he looks at the series and says it "looks disgusting" and thinks there's something "wrong" with the people who enjoy it (people like you and me.)
While I agree that not EVERYTHING Spongebob related is gold, it's still a very influential property; just like the Looney Tunes were. Heck, Obama, his children and some big name celebs who WEREN'T affiliated with the show love the lil' square dude. So, for our parents to say there's something "wrong" with us for liking Spongebob has to be an even bigger bias than all the people who originally hated the idea of this spinoff
That kind of reminds me of how my parents saw SpongeBob before we were able to watch it (we didn't get channels like Nickelodeon until I was a teen) They thought it looked stupid on the surface. Then, my dad said when he was in a waiting room for something, an episode was playing on the TV; I forget the name, but it was the one where Squidward was running an art class, SpongeBob was the only one attending, and he was constantly doing his assignments perfectly. My dad said it was actually pretty funny XD And now that we've been able to watch it for several years, they still think it's kind of dumb, but at the same time, they think it's funny. One of the jokes my dad always laughs at was when SpongeBob and Patrick told Squidward to draw an anti-sea bear circle, the bear attacks him, and they tell him it has to be a circle, not an oval XD
I think it helps that my parents watched The Munsters, The Addams Family, and The Three Stooges a heck of a lot more than cartoons, in terms of comedy shows, when they were younger. They'll definitely say if a cartoon looks disgusting or not funny at all, but they won't call people stupid for liking it; not to downplay your experiences with your father, mind you.
@@DxC-95 Believe me, my father has caught some glimpses of Spongebob and other cartoons I watch but even then, he still claims they look disgusting.
Even my elder step-brother thinks that way too, comparing Spongebob's animation and quality to that of Ren & Stimpy or Family Guy
8:48 yes! Looking forward to that one
I wish I could say I still love Spongebob as much as I did when it first came on, but sadly those days are long behind it. Still, I'll always be grateful to it for the fine episodes it gave me in the early days 😊
I think a big part of why SpongeBob has stayed so relevant is that it didn't get too diluted. Yeah the recent seasons got rough, but it was still SpongeBob. We weren't constantly shown a million spinoffs. And now that we're gonna get that, I think Spongebob will become oversaturated and all that will contribute more and more to a feeling of SpongeBob feeling "played out." There was a reason Hillenburg fought against Kamp Koral his whole career.
Edit: Apparently he worked on Kamp Koral, so the last part doesnt count. but he still opposed spinoffs for much of his career.
It also didn’t suffer the same fate as the Fairly Odd Parents, where they kept throwing more and more rules and characters of the show out of the window. SpongeBob’s done a pretty good job at keeping its character base pretty consistent. They’ve even made Bubble Bass a regular in the newer seasons.
@Wolfgalaxy oh well i didnt know that, i heard from somewhere else he had fought against the network when they tried to make a spongebob spinoff show
@@personmcdudeguy Yeah, to sum that up, Stephen said he didn't see any spin-offs happening. I guess he changed his mind when Kamp Koral came into play since he was involved with it. Someone else mentioned he only saw a spin-off happening if SpongeBob was mainly involved, so The Patrick Show is something he probably didn't want, which is understandable.
Vision in a white void and camp coral have the same creators: executives and a pie chart

One advantage 2-D has that it can do the ugly closeups. I generally don’t like them but they do sometimes work.
The last time I was this early, FOX still made animated movies
The last time I was this early, FOX wasn't taken over by Disney at the time.
Kamp Koral can be summed up into two words. Cash. Grab.
It looks dumb
viacom doesn't know their own show. first they say that youve never seen spongebobs backyard, yet there was an episode. and now they made spongbob, patrick, sandy, and squidward all childhood friends, even tho there was an episode where spongebob met sandy for the first time. and an episode where spongebob first moved in and met squidward for the first time.
I am just happy we got over 20 years without a spinoff.
Ni-Ni-Ni-Ni-Ni-Ni-Ni-Screw you viacom.
It’s basically “Spongebob Jr.” it’s kind of like the route of “the baby version of the show”
Except this isn't a Nick Jr style show.
“Going off model,” I was trying to think of how to describe this right before you said it. Thanks!
I think the biggest argument for 2D versus 3D animation is that 2D animation can literally pull off many different art styles to pull off different jokes/evoke different emotions. Like have a main animation style but then get hyper detailed to evoke horror based jokes (like Adventures of Flapjack). I feel like 3D animation hasn't really picked up that level of adaptability just yet.
Those scenes where they're jelly fishing look so bad... like they belong in a cutscene for a mid 2000s PC game
Okay.
Right on time!!!!
you bet!
The new Spongebob is what I would call Movement Porn. Almost every line and reaction is not small anymore, there isn't just a small reaction, but instead everything done has some insane amount of movement. It has more of a Tex Avery kind of animation sometimes where every laughter, walk, or even conversation has this excess animation for no reason. It's just trying to hypnotize you to keep your brain off.
Comparing it to the early stuff it's definitely two different worlds. While the original had some insanity with movement it was far fewer and made those moments special, but now that it happens every 20 seconds on screen it feels like garbage for your eyes and brain. The original run of Spongebob feels like a normal cartoon, but this current stuff is definitely in the "lol random" era of cartoons like Teen Titans Go or Powerpuff Girls (2016).
I would say it's closer to Mickey Mouse 2013 than Teen Titans Go since it has the same problem plus some shared staff with SpongeBob to boot.
The first Spongebob movie will ALWAYS be the true ending of the show, no matter how much shit they keep releasing.
Will there be a "What's Ruining/Ruined" on Spongebob in the near future?
I was originally upset with the animation style only because they seem to have half assed it but then I remembered I absolutely loved fanboy and chum chum which used the exact same animation style (general lighting and all)
Dude what the actual f***
@@TAGimations wha?
Tbh I actually like fanboy and Chum Chum too
@@paytonplays many people consider fanboy and chumchum a bad show, guessing it a guilty pleasure for you
@@dantenadir2850 well I was 10 when I was super into it, so the humor from the show was what was appealing at the time.

i think a good indicator of a show is when you can smile when you see a small clip of the show or remember a moment of it and feel warm. im sure that in the more recent episodes of spongebob have those, and im sure the patrick show and that kamp koral show have their fair share. Just as when we would experience them for the first time too. However theres just something that the original run and even the first movie that sorta brought in an excited experience more than the more recent stuff. I like the art of Kamp Koral, though it does suffer from the things the main show has went through in the more recent seasons. I do think it needs some work. The lighting reminds me of how people would start off using a program like blender to build 3d models and just place them in an environment. Think the shows need more directions and more to their plots that dont just have one part of their character put up to the max.
we were all like spongebob once, then we became a lot like squidward, now i dont think we are that much like squidward anymore cause of how the character has become. But if its fun and a hit with the kids, and can net you a laugh or a chuckle it should get a pass right, the old shows seasons still there.
i didnt mean to write this long, thanks for reading if you did~
Long comment, glad I can read it all in 10 seconds.

Squidward. Squidward doesn't like Sponge Bob.
