This is silly. I suppose logic is just a personal view now. Finkelstein's reasons for not condemning Hamas was brilliantly shown to have serious flaws. This is like saying that someone whose childhood was horrendous, and they suffered great abuse, is not accountable for themselves when they become an uncontrolled violent presence and kill people. When you act, you are accountable for yourself, no matter what happened before. Condemnation of such atrocities is the only correct stance to have if you believe in accountability. If you don't, no one is ever at fault or succumbed to evil and no one should be imprisoned or chastised, as they are simply a result of previous action. And, carrying on that logic, neither the Palestinians or Israel are in the wrong, they are simply the sum of past events, and had no choice in their responses or decisions. So, why are you mad at Israel? They can't help it. You make a choice to rape and kill. No one else makes it for you. You are accountable for your actions.

It is kind of stupid to cast moral judgement on a lawyer for the crimes committed by their client. Under our (civilised) justice system everyone gets legal representation. In the west, we don't just get a mob to stone someone to death or throw them off a roof when they are accused of a crime. That is your culture, not ours.
Using your argument, you could just as easily say: "Finklestein, a formerly ardent supporter of Mao, possibly the greatest mass murderer in history, is the one defending Hamas. That's all we need to know about the matter. "

In the 1st Arab war, the Arabs were supposed to be the saviour of the (Arab) Palestinians from the evil UN partition plan. Now Israel is saving the Palestinians from the evil UN that votes for a ceasefire. Looks like Israel has done a better job of saving Palestinians in the last few months than the Arabs did in the last 75 years. Quote from Israeli declaration of independence:

Israel goes BEYOND honour. I wonder if this magnanimity goes beyond Judaism. I don't recall anything as explicit as this in the old testament. Like Jesus takes a step further to say 'love your enemies.' Israel has no obligation to save the Palestinians who voted Hamas into power. Yet Israel saves despite being reviled - This is exactly what Jesus did. Jews are more Christian than Christians! Like in the 10 commandments movie, Moses doesn't know God, but God knows Moses. Here, Jews don't know Jesus, but Jesus knows Jews.

My family left Yafa after they killed my uncle while he was alone on his balcony drinking tea. The world just doesn't understand. We have been refugees since, our homes demolished, our lives ruined.
Then 40 of my extended family which left Yafa to Gaza were killed in the last 6 months.

In 1910 the population of Palestine was 90% Paalesttinians and 10% Jewish. Dont know wtf Dershowitz is talking about. If i rememerber that correctly. Palestine was NEVER a majority Jewish.
As an Irishman, when Dershowitz said the Palestinians should move on, it made me think of the phrase "The problem with the Irish is they never forget, and the problem with the British is they never remember." There is a reason why oppressed people never forget, because they are raised on the stories of the oppression that their people suffered. I am sure that this mindset can hold the development of the oppressed people back, but its not going to change, and I don't believe it should.

The argument is correct. The ICJ is simply a panel of judges elected by member states. These include Arab states like Iran, Iraq and Lebanon which all have a personal and religiously motivated animus against the State of Israel.
This brings into question the impartiality and credibility of the court.

Don't forget that Dershowitz justified torture by citing the nonsensical "ticking time bomb" scenario, which will never happen in the real world. That scenario depends on the premise that you absolutely know that someone planted a ticking time bomb, but you don't know where they planted it. But the only way you could absolutely know that someone planted a ticking time bomb is to see them plant it, so you'd already know where they planted it. And if you saw them try to plant it, you would stop them from planting it if you're a responsible military or police authority. So the ""ticking time bomb" scenario will never happen in the real world.
Dershowitz is such a despicable soul. He never speaks of the Jewish terrorism between WWI and 1948. I've never ever heard Dershowitz reference Haganah, Lehi, or Irgun.

And at the end of the debate when Piers tells him that the UN says the settlements are illegal he goes on to say that the UN "is no authority to define international law". He never once in the entire debate relayed facts, just opinions, propaganda, half truths, and ad-hominems.
Notice how Finkelstein never dehumanizes israelis or jews and just tells the facts as they are and always holds true to his principles, whereas Derschowitz always dehumanizes Palestinians and muslims and equating them to Nazis. He has absolutely no principles and lies to win the argument.
