I love watching the younger generation listen to music I grew up on and enjoy the songs. My kids are in their 30's and 40's and I've taught them all about the music I grew up on in the 60's-70's. Now I teach my Grand Kids. LOL You are a very sweet soul, keep listening, there is so much more for you to love.

    The Hollies are a very interesting band. They've gone through so many different iterations and lineups since they were formed in 1962 and they're still active today with a different lineup. Maybe one or two members are original, I haven't kept track lately. But they were co-founded by Graham Nash in 1962, and he left the band in 1968 to join Steven Stills of Buffalo Springfield and David Crosby from The Byrds to form their iconic group Crosby, Stills, and Nash.

    There is an historical rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester that, geographically, makes no sense. They are, after all, right next to each other! But perhaps in that competition we're gifted with some great outcomes. The Hollies were a hit-making machine in the mid to late 1960s, formed by lead singer Allan Clarke and tenor Graham Nash (who later went on to become a third of country rock giants Crosby, Stills & Nash) and somehow remain underrated. This tune was originally written and recorded by Albert Hammond and is one of the group's later hits. Possibly as a result of this, Hammond was perhaps less concerned about Radiohead's use of the verse melody on 'Creep' than some have made out.

    • @Isleofskye
      @Isleofskye Před 3 lety +1

      Surely your rivalry came from Bill Shankly creating a World force in Liverpool Football Club to match Sir Matt Busby's brilliant Manchester United team(s) and The Beatles also coming onto the scene then and becoming The World's biggest selling Singles and Album Artists of all time ::)

    Funny thing, this song was written by Albert Hammond and he explains that the song is inspired by a girl he fell in love with. He says she was physically ugly, but she was beautiful on the inside. She helped him when he was basically adrift in Los Angeles. He also missed home quite a bit and that was also inspiration. The line "air that I breathe" was created by Mike Hazelwood as far as Albert can recall. Amusingly, he was introduced to smog for the first time in his life when he got to L.A. LOL

The Band and also Allan Clarke were absolutly underrated. At a concert in 1984 t Mannheim, I can talk nearly 1 hour wirh Allan Clarke. A beautiful song. Listen to He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother, another lovely song, this band was up there with the likes of the Kinks, Stones and yes! Even the Beatles.

    no cigarette no sleep no lights no sound nothing to eat no books to read
    oh. now i get it; some guy who needs nothing else except breathing and satisfying you
    doesnt need food and just goes back to sleep when you are done because he cant even read anyway.
    I loved the smile on your face.
