He ain't heavy he's My Brother
I was going to make the same suggestion.
Best song ever!
Best song ever!
As a kid, whenever I asked my mom where my brother was, she'd start singing that.
Absolutely! Real classic!
Long cool woman in a black dress....classic hollies
Need to do this one next to know the real bangers
Never knew this was the Hollies.
One of the top 5 greatest opening guitar riffs ever!!!!
Great rockin’ song!!! 🎶
YES!!! 💯
Bus Stop, Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress, He's Not Heavy, Hesy My Brother. Three Hollies classics that still rock.
All great selections.
Carrie Anne too. It’s a little more 60s poppy but I live it.
And On a Carousel
B&B, Maybe you've heard these. Check them out. They were quite popular. Actually so was the Air that I Breathe.
This band had a lot of great hits.
Stop, Stop, Stop.
So grateful that I lived all my teenage years in the 70's. I didn't know how lucky we were to have all that great music.
We do now. Lucky us.❤❤
I knew it was special, so many great bands. I just didn't know how much.
One of the coolest things about these Classic Rock reaction channels is watching these kids realize that the music their GRANDPARENTS were listening to at THEIR age was SO MUCH BETTER than anything they have now!
This is my era, my life. This song overwhelms me every single time I hear it🩷🩷🩷
This is my era also (I'm 70) but if you haven't heard The Mavericks do this song you MUST, Raul Malo does this song justice at the highest level. P.S., listen to the recorded version, not the live version.
I was in Gibraltar when this was released,so many memories.
Now you just HAVE to do 'He ain't heavy, He's my Brother
Alan Clarke, lead singer is vastly underrated. He had a fantastic voice.
@ronnie237. Especially when paired with Graham Nash. 👍
no he's not
Clarke One Nil.
Allan Clarke was never underrated in the 60s and 70s to which the Hollies' record sales are testament. Clarke's voice and his harmonies with Nash defined the whole band.
Long cool woman in a black dress is a great song of The Hollies 🎶.
I'm so glad I grew up when this sort of music was new and current. What a contrast between this and modern music!
I was born in 1967 and appreciate all kinds of music past and present. Although, there is music that transcends time and that's the point. It's music! Who gives an old peoples fuck whether is current or in the past. Enjoy it!!
@@drums4b And some of us are perhaps a tad more discerning. Songwriting in this day and age appears to be a thing of the past.
You couldn't pay me enough to listen to what passes for music these days!
@@davidbuck5864 Y'all got that right!
@@morningsky8045 YYes, I was born in 1950 - stopped listening to Radio One when Punk came along, made worse later with hip-hop! A few interludes of something 'better in the 90s with Oasis, and Robbie Williams, then in the 21st C with Amy Winehouse, Adele, and Rag 'N Bone Man
The Hollies got their start in the 1960's and were part of the original British Invasion. They are one of the longest lasting bands from that era, continuously staying together, and going strong, for more than 50 years. I believe the Rolling Stones are the only other band that can make this claim. Truely one of the greats.
If that song gave you goose bumps, He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother will make you cry.
Born August 1960 I had the pleasure of being a teen in the 70s
To me the 70s was the best decade, for music period.
Rock-'n'-roll and Country.
I would start a list, but it would take days.
I would mow grass, wash cars do little odd jobs, to make money to buy a albums.
Times were simple back then.
Born same month, same year and absolutely agree.
Same.
Different month, though.
Me too. April 1960. I live in Canada, because of historical long ties with the British Commonwealth, we had more cultural exposure to Europe and the rest of the world including music. I would go to a second hand record store where I could trade, buy and sell records. I found Albums from mostly the UK that most of my friends weren't listening to until 5 years later, and some they never did hear about. I also took music lessons from 1965 to 1978 and fell in love with Progressive Rock and ended up co-founding a prog rock band of no consequence in 1980.
Plus I grew up in Calgary Alberta Canada which is the largest city closest to BC Bud which grows the best Marijuana in the World.
I've been retired for 9 years, married to a professional woman, no kids, no needs, still a long hair old fart. Just chilling, trying to make sense of the world, making light fixtures out of dead bicycle parts and frames.🎶 ✌️👉🍁🎶
Yep, 70's had everything! Every genre was amazimg, couldn't turn on the radio without finding something new, and it was so.diverse! Great time to grow up in!
It was so good that at Secondary School the music lesson was the teacher playing Radio One top 20 tapes.
OMG YES! LONG COOL WOMAN IN A BLACK! As great an intro as any song ever!
I'm sure it's a Red dress..
Then you'd be wrong, it's a black dress...@@kimmarievan-ever6599
...DRESSS!
@@kimmarievan-ever6599 What!!! BLACK... it's BLACK!!!
You just have to react to, He ain't heavy, he's my brother.
The thing about The Hollies is that no two songs sound the same. Most bands have a "sound" that is undeniably their own but these guy's are eclectic and unique. Nice job kids! 👍👍👍👍👍
One of the most beautiful love songs ever written; it will make you cry, if it catches you at the right moment. Timeless, it's still played at weddings today.
Just another person's votes: Three of the greatest love songs ever written: "The Air That I Breathe" (The Hollies), "Unchained Melody" (Bobby Hatfield of The Righteous Brothers), and "Something'" (The Beatles).
The Hollies had a string of hits in the 60's and 70's. Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills & Nash was an original member. Some of their early hits, 'Bus Stop', 'Look through any window', etc., were written by Graham Gouldman of 10cc, another Manchester group.
he ain't heavy, he's my brother - should be the next one by the hollies! :)
For me, He Ain't Heavy is such a moving, emotional song and the singer has an incredible voice. So moving
Picture it, America, Summertime, 1974. And playing on the radio "Air That I Breathe" by the Hollies. Priceless.😍
So cool cause they are from my city of Manchester, England :)
The Hollies the Stones the Beatles, Four Tops, Supremes , Motown , fantastic time to grow up, this was our background everyday music, on the radio, which was on, all the time sixties and seventies.
One of the best love songs of all time.
Hollies are HEAVYWEIGHTS of rock history.
Music of my high school days. Love the Hollies. Long Cool Woman would always make me break the speed limit!
Dancing in the dark by Bruce Springsteen got me a lot of tickets.
The Hollies are one of the most important and popular rock/pop groups of the UK. Between 1963 and 1988 they clocked up 30 top 40 hits singles including two number ones.
One of the most beautiful songs ever. That first verse gives me chills.
One of those rare completely unabashed love songs. Such a classic.
Graham Nash was one of the founding members of the Hollies, later went on to form Crosby, Stills, and Nash.
The Hollies "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" is a must, a song for all time.
"Bus Stop", an earlier track from '66 is a great love song.
What makes this song even sweeter is that it seems to be written from a standpoint that his love is asleep or falling asleep. So she isn't hearing his loving thoughts. " So sleep silent angel- go to sleep". Too many times emotions are expressed looking for a reaction or reciprocation. The feelings of love in this song always hit as pure love because these emotions/lyrics were coming from internal thoughts. Thanks as always for the great reactions!
Fire!!!!! 900 music reactions and you're just hearing this. That should tell you something. Just scratching the surface.
This amazing song was written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazelwood , it charted In 74
So many hits. "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", "Bus Stop", "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress", "Carrie Ann", etc.
This was always one of my favorite songs by the Hollies, it is just beautiful. "He Aint Heavy, He's My Brother" is another favorite.
The live version of “He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother” is a great song to listen to.
The Hollies harmonising was beautiful.
Loved all of The Hollies songs. Incidentally, Alan Parsons of the Alan Parsons Project was the engineer. The Alan Parsons Project is another group you should explore. Eye in the Sky, for example.
"Psychobabble" would be awesome.
a band that never made a bad single
The Hollies brought a new and fresh sound in the late 1960s and early 1970s... They had so many great songs... In my opinion they were all bangers and you can't go wrong listening to any one of them...One of my personal favorites was "Carrie Ann"... On a more personal note, I love watching reactors your age enjoying the music that I grew up with and thought was wonderful... I'm 67 years old today but during the time that the Hollies were singing I was in my mid teens enjoying their music...It helps to insure me that all this great music that I listened to as a young man will still be enjoyed for generations to come...Great reaction, guys...see you on the next one...Keep Being Awesome !!!...
Happy birthday!
Happy 67th! Hope you’ve had a great one! 😊🎂
Happy Birthday.🎉🎂 I turned 66 this year. These songs all bring me back to those wonderful years. On my birthday I always play "Birthday" by the Beatles. Has become a tradition.
LOVED reading this comment 🙌 Happy Belated Birthday!
Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress for something more rocking or something similar to this one, He ain't Heavy He's my Brother!
The song is about a guy whose every desire is fulfilled by the woman he loves. His list of things he can live without as long as he has her love: cigarettes, sleep, light, sound, food, books. Albert Hammond (who wrote the song) said the inspiration for the song: "I just fell in love with a girl," he said. "We had some kind of short affair. I just fell in love so bad, I guess I needed to be with my family. I was so lonely in Los Angeles." So he moved to LA for a girl, but the song isn't really about her - it's more inspired by the loneliness he felt living there and his longing to be back with loved ones in a familiar place - he learned that in Los Angeles, everyone has a car and there's no mingling in the streets like there is in New York.
Wrong; it's about his baby daughter. Try listening to the song?
"Little angel , go to sleep" nothing to do with his girl friend!!
@@user-yw7fo4dj4z You seem to know more than Albert Hammond the composer. In the book Behind The Hits, Albert Hammond himself explained the inspiration for the song: "I just fell in love with a girl," he said. "We had some kind of short affair. I just fell in love so bad, I guess I needed to be with my family. I was so lonely in Los Angeles."
Just hearing that guitar intro transports me back to the summer of 1974..
LOVEEEEEEEE The Hollies
THIS is music !
Bus Stop, Long Cool Women in a Black Dress, are some other Hollies songs from their extensive hit list! Great Band!
The Hollies had a string of hits in the 1960s and also into later decades. In the 1960s they emerged together with the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks and the Animals to name but a few.
I was a teenager then and still have my vinyl LPs for all these groups.
What a time it was to be a teenager.
The Hollis was one of the best groups in Great Britain
Yes better than the Beatles I think
The Hollies had so many hits. He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother, Carrie Ann, Long Cool Women, Bus Stop.
Great reaction, Sam and Phil! The Hollies had a pretty long career lasting from the 60s through the 90s. A couple of early songs I liked were Bus Stop and Carrie Ann. He ain't Heavy He's My Brother and Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress are fantastic songs from later in their career. Lots of other good songs also.
Yes. Goosebumps. I’m 63 years old, and it still gives me goosebumps. Excellent reactions. ❤️👍
Graham Nash also was in Crosby Stills and Nash
The Hollies....so much fire. It is almost hard to pin them to any genre as every hit is almost a totally different sound from any other
Such a beautiful song
Great Manchester band formed in the sixties Alan Clarke is the lead singer He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother is a must listen to.
Hi Guys Greetings From England 🇬🇧 The Hollies area British Group who were Formed in Manchester in the 1960s and had many hits in the 60s and 70s The lead singer Allan Clarke had such a distinctive voice and he left the group in the 70s and The Hollies song " He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother" is an iconic Classic Song and so worth listening to on your Channel.
After Allan Clarke left The Hollies they lost there distinctive sound.
In 1974 two old friends and I sat in a pub in Liverpool, drinking, getting ready to bid farewell to one another, since they were getting ready to take a ferry over to Ireland and I was hitchhiking back to London for my flight back to the States. Sentiment took over....and we kept feeding the juke to play this song for one another.....
A great band and song! Great reaction!
"Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" is a must!!
The group that Graeme Nash was a member of until he jumped ship and formed Crosby, Stills, Nash and then Young.....one of the most beautiful heartfelt songs ever......never ages....one song you want to slow dance with at the end of the night, and then....
Great mellow rock, good Harmonys
‘ l can’t tell the bottom from the top’ The hollies. Amazing tune.
🔥
He ain’t Heavy he’s my Brother
Have not heard this in a long time. I forgot how beautiful this song is
The Hollies, another Icon of music. Yes, please react to them doing, "He Ain't Heavy". I was born in the mid 50's, so I grew up with such a broad range of music to listen to that I consider myself so lucky. To this day, I have a love of music from all genre's. Another suggestion is anything by Bread.
Love the Hollies. They were formed early 60's that might be why it has a 60's feel.
He Ain't Heavy, He's my brother! Great music and an even better message to the world.
2nd only to the Beatles for top 10 hits in the UK.
They had loads and loads of great tunes that are so catchy, you’ll probably be familiar with a lot of them.
He's not only referring to his love for her but also how he feels after making love.
Absolutely Beautiful
Such a beautiful song!! It hits home!
Alan Clarke was a great vocalist and the harmonies were always a key component. Tony Hicks is till one of my top 10 guitarists of all time and his story is amazing all on its own.
Those lines received a lot of air time on TV in commercials.
This song has been covered many, many times. The Hollies are legends from the early rock days (Bus Stop, Long Cool Woman in a Red Dress) to timeless masterpieces like this and the sublime He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother.
Ashamed to admit, but Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012) was my first exposure. But, what a first exposure!
They were a '60s and '70s band mainly, 'The Hollies' had loads of hits in both of these decades, some tracks by them which I recommend are:
"Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress",
"Bus Stop",
"He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother",
"Stop, Stop, Stop",
"Carrie Anne",
"Just One Look",
"I Can't Let Go",
"Don't Let Me Down",
"I'm Alive",
"The Day That Curly Billy Shot Down Crazy Sam McGee",
"Sorry Suzanne",
"Here I Go Again",
"Look Through Any Window",
"I Can't Tell the Bottom From the Top",
"On a Carousel",
"Jennifer Eccles".
There are many more but these are good ones to continue with.
The Hollies came from Manchester in England and had many, many hits in the UK. They were known for their soaring harmonies. Graham Nash was a member of the band before becoming part of Crosby, Still and Nash.
Top 10 Vocal groups. I cannot believe she didn't mention how incredible the harmonies are.
One of the most underrated bands of the 60s!
This is one of their best songs. You definitely have to react to "Long, Cool Woman In A Black Dress" and "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother."
This was released in 1974. I was a junior in high school. Beautiful song. Check out "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" next, a real banger.😊
If you've listened to Creep there's a reason this sounds familiar. Wiki: The English rock band Radiohead reused the chord progression and melody of "The Air That I Breathe" for their 1992 song "Creep". After Rondor Music, the publisher of "The Air That I Breathe", took legal action, Hammond and Hazlewood received cowriting credits and a percentage of the royalties. Hammond said Radiohead were honest about having reused the composition, and so he and Hazlewood accepted only a small part of the royalties.
Gorgeous song , beautifully sung, played, arranged and produced.
massive hit when i was kid, never off the radio. Still sounds good now.
Yes, that -blank -period is wonderful, wonderful, especially the early part.
Did not realise they come from [or formed] just down the road from where I live....Manchester, England.
Love this record. Was a 12 when this came out!
This song echoes what it feels like to be in love and floating on air.
Alan Clarke has got a beautiful voice, next to the Beatles The Hollies are my favourite band so glad you loved them too.
Hi Guys, Great choice from a brilliant British band. They made a name for themselves using 3 part harmonies in their vocals for the most part, and still do today, although with some different personnel. I saw them in Ipswich UK last year, and they didn't disappoint, but how could they? They stated that the 2 original members still with them, Tony Hicks lead Guitar and Bobby Elliott Drums, have toured each year since 1962. Not bad eh?
Like others who've commented, I'd definitely suggest He ain't Heavy he's my brother, Bus stop or Look through any window. Buy Stop, Stop, Stop is a bit different.
Keep up the great reactions, and we will keep watching them.
You REALLY have to listen to He ain't heavy, He's my brother..absolute classic..
One of the best songs ever.
I've always liked The Hollies, going back to the days when Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young fame was with them with songs like Bus Stop and On A Carousel, but to me what really made them special was Allan Clarke's voice and the underappreciated lead guitar work of Tony Hicks, who looked like he was twelve or thirteen up until the Seventies.
This was 1974. The Hollies had this and Long Cool Women in a Black Dress in 1972 that were big hits in the US. That’s a song you should check out. They’ve been around since the 60’s as they were part of the British Invasion.
The best harmonising group ever. Youll love diving into there catalogue of music 🎶
Welcome to The Hollies!
They are still going. I saw them a few months ago and they are brilliant live. They have toured every year for the last 60 years.
Great reaction to a moving song ! Beautiful ❤
He ain't heavy, he's my brother and Sandy 4th of July (a Springsteen song) are amongst my favorites
The group in hull of fame one great singer of all time great band live
Can I say,”those were the days”?
Loved The Hollies😍
Great reaction!!! Now you need to follow the Hollies rabbit hole. The beginning guitar riff in "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" is (to use an overly used word) "iconic". The whole song is fire. They have over great songs too like "If He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother" and "Bus Stop".
That was perfect when you said, "the sound of gratitude."❤Great song and reaction.❤
