      Hi Teresa,
Congratulations on the weight loss! I’m considering the bypass myself. Can you share your experience a little if you don’t mind.

I had RNY at 5'9 and 320. Im remaining at about 165-178 for years (did have a tummy tuck and breast lift if matters) all done in 2009. Now we KNOW more. I had the "Cadillac of surgeons" at the time good at it and no bedside manner - I had friends and didnt need a new one. Both parents had and both regain and not me. But ANEMIA (iron deficiency). I was told to take "Flintstones" at the time. Im sure at this point I am well on my way to death. Not because Im suffering but from lack of knowledge at the time and direvtly after. im grateful for my health I do have. Im avtive and slim enough I dont hurt. But the anemia issues can and DO become debilitating. Ive already had many infusion but STILL am honestly feeling I complain about success in surgery but KNOW this isnt great... somewhere. In Houston, Tx any recommendations for even where to start looking to get the most recent research, testing and supplement that is truly needed this far out? Even others (not poster) please tell! Ill seek it! I know I don't feel 40 and "healthy" despite appearance...

Please address the likelihood of hyperinsulinism that results from this surgery. I had my gastric bypass in 1993 and I am dealing with it to the point of it being very problematic. I would still do the surgery again because I know what gave me a second chance at life, but I wish that I had known about this risk when I had the surgery. In all honesty I don't believe that the medical community was aware at that time either. My blood sugar has crashed to a lowest point of 20 while I was at home. Fortunately my husband was here with me because I may have lapsed into a seizure at that point. I could not even medicate myself with glucose tabs to bring my blood sugar up because I was shaking so badly. I average about two episodes a week with blood sugar readings that range anywhere from 20 to 45. My regular blood sugar reading levels at between 70 and 80 most days. It doesn't matter whether I cheat and eat sweets that day or not. When it happens it happens, and most days I can feel it coming on but sometimes I can't and those are the times that scare me the most.

I had a Roux-en-Y bypass that has been a nightmare now. Bleeding ulcers, non absorption or minerals and nutrients, fatigue and worst of all incredible pain.

I had my surgery March 2014. Does the unused stomach and tube leading to the old intestines get removed with this surgery does it remain inside of your abdomen?

I have mild Gastroparesis, severe acid reflux and a failed nissen fundoplication. Surgeon recommended I get this type of gastric bypass. My problem is really the reflux that's really bothering me... killing me slowly even. Would this surgery fix it? How much acid is there left in that small stomach pouch that's left and would it not just continue to go back up?
