4 + years out and I have not put a single drop of carbonation in my body. Best advice ever.
LUCKY!!!! I am 5 years out, started drinking soda like 10 months out, still lost 100 pounds and now Ive gained almost 70 pounds back because of SODA. Omg.
@@casseyboo89not even i drink diet soda after gastric sleeve and have been still losing weight, but ofc i workout
Yes! 2 years out and carbonation literally hurts I want no parts 😂
Did you had any issues in digestion or had vitamin c deficiency? I am planning to do this surgery I am done trying losing weight.
@@B22.Dota2 this surgery is a pain if u can't handle being on a diet or atleast trying then this surgery will be a nightmare for u
Over 6 years out & still stay away from soda, & sugary drinks!!! As always, you rock Dr A
What do you drink?
Nothing but water, & i do have my coffee! I do not add sugar to my coffee, EVER
Can you give examples of what you do drink?
Dear God!!!! Love my juices etc. 😮
After almost 15 years of diet soda, a month before my sleeve, I switched to Gatorade Zero and water and have been off diet soda now for two months. I never thought I could do it, but it was a lot easier than I thought it'd be!

Even after 1 year of my gastric sleeve surgery and a massive weight loss I still get gassy when I chew gum. Thanks Dr. A for putting this video out there . I have switched to mints and if I chew gum it’s for a very short time. My stomach is more settled without chewing a gum.

Great advises
10 yrs from surgery in MX and the only thing I don’t do is overeat! I have not gained back the 120 lbs lost BUT follow a Carnivore or Keto diet. I do drink a diet soda now & again but buy the small ones as to not waste it. I still do not eat & drink at the same time which drives wait staff completely bonkers. Carbs are my nemesis so had to give them up completely or like many I know have gained all their weight back by going back to their old habits⚖️⚖️⚖️⚖️⚖️
Thank you Doctor A!

Best 6 advices.
I just had my sleeve /hiatal hernia surgery 2 weeks ago. I will continue to follow these advices.
Hi, did you get both things done laparoscopically ?
I just found out I have a hernia and I’m becoming scared of needing to have a big incision done.
By the way Congratulations on deciding to improve your life. ❤
Take care.
@@lcif6503 EVERYTHING was done by laparoscopy, dear. No worries. Only thing i will tell you is that it might be a bit harder to go through the liquid/soft,etc stages because of the hernia. So please, go slowly dont rush 🙏🏾🤗🤗🤗. Im at my 6 months mark and all is well. Good luck for your surgery ❤️❤️
I’m 7 days post op Thankyou for the information very helpful 😊
17 months post op...thx for advice
That was helpful. My surgery is next week
How's it going?
Same as the lap band. Esp the gum and the drinking & eating at the same time.
Good thing I only drink unsweetened tea, Premier protein shakes, And water... haven't had a soda in 15 years
Do ever regret you did this surgery?
Was it hard to give a soda?

How soon can you go back to things like raw vegetables (carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach, onion)? By the way I no longer drink soda, I’m 117 days Sugar Free and my VSG Surgery is in 5 1/2 weeks.
Thank you so much doc,am 4days post op
when you hot and spicy foods, what level of "hot and spicy foods" the banana hot peppers or the Tabasco sauce? the banana hot peppers are like an advanced dill pickle.
My surgery is in February hopefully! 🤞 I love your videos! I’m Mexican so I’ve been cutting down on my spicy food now
How did it go?
I had my surgery 2 weeks ago, today my first day of liquids try some solide food .My doctor said to me that its very important to avoid drinking and eating together its can cause dumping.
I'm 19 and 1 week post op. I'm glad to get some more intel on what my diet should look like after surgery. I'm super excited to change my life around :D
can you tell me how it’s been for you, i’m 19 i have brain condition that requires me to loose weight so im getting gastric sleeve. i just wanna know how it’s been for you?
@gink_ie how are you doing now
Hey! I am also 19 I’ve been considering vsg surgery but my main concern is that because of my age I will be unable to connect/relate with anyone who has had the surgery (because they tend to be on the older side). I would absolutely love to ask you a few questions about your post op process so far. I know it’s superrrr random sorry 😅
@@gklo-yg2vu ahh sorry, I'm just now seeing these replies!! I'm a little over 3 months post op and things are actually going pretty well for me. I lost about 60 pounds since I started my pre-operation diet (40+ since the day of my operation).
I thankfully haven't had too many complications, just some pain and discomfort after my operation which is normal. The only "complication" I get is this thing called foamies. It isn't anything serious in my case, it's just annoying as hell 😭
And I'm gonna be pretty honest, I haven't really been following my diet routine that well which is most likely why I have that "foamies" thing. Like, I haven't been eating junky foods, but I could definitely be eating healthier.
I also have a hard time with eating + hydrating myself now bc I'm not hungry EVER (and I've always sucked at hydrating myself but it got worse.

Very informative video. Thank you so much dr. I’m 7 days post op
How is everything going with your GS I’m 3 days for mine
Omg thank you so much. I'm on my 3rd day post-op and I made the mistake of drinking water with a straw. I was wondering why after each sip I was getting very uncomfortable and it made me burp very often. I'm going to drink from a glass from now on.
I had my surgery 1/12 - and I did the same thing self-consciously and lord the pain was un real 😢
A new subscriber, just heard about you today! Will see you soon😂
I had my VSG done on July 17, Day 10, and I can say air hurts a lot, especially when I try to use a spoon to eat soup and broths. I prefer to drink from a mug that is much gentle for my tummy. I stopped chewing gum months ago
I'm almost a month ahead of you (June 23rd) it gets better. My doctor has already cleared me to return to a normal diet. Do you use Yeti style cups for your broth? I found that I could make about 24oz's of it and it stayed hot for about 4 hours... lol.
@trclark7689 I don't use it Yeti cups. My mother in law cook daily, and I have broth ready daily. My doctor' nurse called me this week and said to drink the bone broth on the liquid part as extra. I can now eat 1-2oz Cottage cheese and Greek yogurt. So far, I have only done the cottage cheese. It counts as protein
@@mimedeiros26 Can I ask what is your current weight now as of now? I just had my very first consultation so I'm still in the very early stages. But I'm nervous and so ready to get it over with.
@gray.photography4839 For surgery, the day was 353 lbs. I saw my doctor this week was 339 lbs. I was wearing jeans but without jeans was 336 lbs. Later today, I will have my first Nutrition Group consultation. I will move from Stage 3 to Stage 4. My primary doctor said that after 6-8 weeks, they keep tracking your weight numbers because, for now still too early to say it because my body is still changing. I have lymphedema on my legs, too. I hope it helps you, and I wish you the best. We got this 😉🙏

I started my pre-op liquid diet on the 27th and have surgery scheduled for the 10th of next month. I’m nervous, but mostly excited! It will be nice to not feel pain and exhaustion when walking my dog. And as much as I like my GD and the ladies at his office, I will be nice to not have to see him every 3 months.

I'm not going to lie.... I had a glass of sweet tea the other day and it was amazing. Thankfully, it didn't make me sick or irritate me, but I know that it can only be a once in a blue moon kind of thing.
I was told to drink Gatorade or powerade zero or crystal light. And I'm sick of them already lol only 2 months post op
@@Naenatify I've been drinking Gatorade Zero since about a month before surgery and it hasn't gotten old to me yet. I think the best thing you can do is find stores in your area that has different flavors?
Virtually every store in my area only carries blue, red, and orange. If I travel across town, there are some stores that have pink, green, and several other colors (I don't remember the flavors off hand, lol)
Maybe unsweetened with a natural sweetener
It's weird, I've been on a huge coffee kick for the last several months now. I never liked coffee before surgery.

Hi Doc I'm going on 3mon and I'm only down 27lbs and I have been walking 3 to 4miles 5 to 7 days a week. I'm drinking 64 to 96oz of water and eating much as I can take in. I feel I have been stalled for all most 2months.
I think you may be eating too much. Did you see a nutritionist
u could be starving yourself or u could be simply eating alot of calories believe it or not before surgery i would have a protein bar morning and then for lunch takis or jalapeño bread or anything i liked below 1000 calories and then for dinner protein bar i also exercise'd carbs helped me get through thr day anyways i was shredding pounds got the surgery for the long run but i know i could easily have kept the weight off and still ate unhealthy i drank like 5 diet sodas a day, so there's your answer number #1 thing is exercise carbs helped me do a great workout and i felt so good, don't listen to these food nazis who have never tried losing weight on their own and them saying oh no soda no sugar, those won't instantly make u gain weight it's a lie they try to shove in your face
I am 1 month post op and ive lost 40 pounds so far. I am going by the book with everything but i struggle with not using straws or chewing gum 😭

Just about 10 mns away from the mexico border

Can I be honest? I’m really considering getting this. I am probably 160-180 pounds over weight. But food Has always been my comfort. When I’m sad, or angry, or stressed, happy…food is my comfort. It really is like an addiction. And if I can’t eat like I used to, I’m genuinely worried about what my next addiction will be. I know I shouldn’t worry about that, but I do.
And I love seltzer. One of my favorite things to drink is seltzer water. I can’t imagine not being able to drink that 😔
Transfer addiction is a real issue... make sure to line up therapy if you decide to get the surgery. I'm 9 months out and 140 lbs down.
50ish to go.
I have my life back.
The surgery won't do anything except reduce the size of your stomach. Turning to food for comfort is an emotional issue that surgery doesn't fix
exercise and eat protein bars so exercise alot like walk alot and eat protein bar like quest it will make u stop thinking about food oh and ofc sleep on time make a habit of this in a month you eill be shredding pounds no need for surgery as it is not needed if u can follow this diet sodas is ok u may get gastritis, takis gave me gastritis, but u can definitely have protein bar for morning walk then for lunch a quesadilla anything that's below 1000 calories but still be mindful about calories the most unhealthy stuff i ate was between 500 to 800 calories i ate unhealthy for lunch for carbs and to boost my endorphins to feel good, because food is delicious and for dinner i had protein bar once again quest, after the surgery though u will lose your freedom for food u will most likely stick to stuff high in protein the best u can have is meatball and chicken or tuna salad but mostly premier protein etc...
What a\bout drinking protein shakes?
They are a must for me. I can't eat enough to get enough protein. The shakes make up for it.
Thank you doctor, i had my gastric sleeve surgery 2 weeks ago. One thing that i can not avoid is hot and spicy foods 🤦🏻♀️

I will have my surgery in September and can you believe this is the thing that scares me the most? I'm not afraid to miss other foods, but sodas (like diet coke) used to be a great way to have a taste of something sweet and thus avoid eating a chocolate or cake etc 😞
Me, too! I managed for four months no diet coke. It definitely adds gas so I am trying to quit again.
Once your sleeve heals, your body will be able to consume carbonated beverages again. Eating and drinking in the first few weeks is not fun, but it will pass with time as your stomach repairs. I’m 22 months post and eating or drinking is essentially back to normal except with a much more limited capacity.
drink Your soda I just waited 6 months and I only drink zero sugar soda
It has been 2 months since my gastric sleeve and I can say I really don't miss soda at all (at least for now) 😁
I am 5 years out from the sleeve surgery… could you talk about how important it is to take your vitamins?
I needed to watch this video , 9 months out and eat as a normal as I can...i EAT TOO MUCH carbs in my opinion...Need to stop now...I only have lost 18kg...I should have lost more tho..
Hi Dr A! I'll be 7 months PO on Friday & sadly, I've already broken all 6 of these guidelines! I've only lost 54 lbs thus far & I know these things are the reason. How can I detox again & break these awful habits? I keep going back to the Pre-op Liquid Diet, but I can't stick with it for more than a day. Am I forever doomed? 😢
Hello from a fellow patient. Maybe try to stop one thing only for a few days and then the next one. Also, if you feel you may be a food addict, you might consider Overeaters Anonymous. Good luck!
@@laureneeheman5981 Thank you, Lauren! I know someone who went thru OA. I'm actually going to look into that program. The idea of cutting one habit at a time makes sense. I just don't understand why I can't do the pre-op diet as well as I did it before surgery. 😢
The sleeve is simply a tool to help limit caloric intake. Diet and exercise are still necessary. A liquid diet is not a sustainable long-term solution. Counting your caloric intake will help you achieve the caloric deficit necessary to reach your weight loss goals.
diet coke is definitely ok and it does help u lose weight compared to regular i definitely recommend it, it boosts your endorphins and there's no readon to not drink it unless u feel sick from it or u don't exercise

#askdra will sleeve surgery help with binge eating disorder?

nope exercise like walking and eating a quest protein bar will help with that
the more u walk the less likely u care for food it definitely helps, the protein bar makes u full fast and sleeping on time helps to

Yes without sugar
Decaf at first. I think I was cleared to have caffeine after 4 months post op. I still avoid it if I can.
I drink coffee with unflavored protein powder and cream, no sugar. The protein makes this a meal and has helped me to avoid grazing on junk.
