Have had my sleeve a year and 3 weeks now. Just want to share with you how much I've appreciated all your videos. They were and are a great source of information both before and after my surgery, and helped answer many questions and allay many concerns. Thanks!

    You're spot on Doc👍🏼
I found that sugar free lemonade went down very easy the first 6 months after surgery. I wasn't able to taste any coffee until almost a year later lol but I enjoy it now. And I'm still sticking with sugar free non carbonated drinks. I have NOT had a beer or a soda in 5 years!

Love this video I'm currently 6 months post sleeve, i remember being super scared that i won't be able to drink and have to take small sips forever thankfully that changed a few months in. I'm absolutely loving this journey, i think of my new stomach as a child so my baby stomach is 6 months old this has really help me with my portion size. Love you Dr Alvarez your videos are super helpful. ❤

I'm on my pre-bariatric journey at it's very start (nutritionist was just recommended to me, got approved by both my doctor and insurance to start the pre-bariatric program) but this is incredibly helpful. I'm taking as many notes as I can so I will be prepared. I'm determined. Thanks so much from a very grateful guy.

Dr Alvarez thank you for your videos!! I have leaned more from you than my own surgeon and nutritionist. I’m on day 11 post op. I really got tired of my waters and broths. They go down very smooth my husbands feels I’m drinking and eating to fast day of surgery I was up walking a lot my breathing exercises were incredible morning after surgery and I feel I had no problem at all getting my fluids down or broth day 1 after surgery. I’m feeling I want to move on already to trying to introduce foods. I even went to full liquids with no problems thicker soups cheddar broccoli, clam chowder (I removed all clams) and gentle blended them to run off spoon again no problems. This coming Wednesday I do get to see my surgeon for my two week after gastric sleeve. I’m looking forward to it hoping he will let me know if I can start introducing foods. Today I ate an hard boiled egg with no problem no pain. I keep waiting for a tightening of my stomach or pain or indigestion and I’m not. The only thing I can say I felt a tightening a couple days after surgery if I did try to drink too much water at one time but it would go away immediately never experienced the gas pains that I’ve watched ladies and videos complain about I keep waiting for it to come and I have an experienced anything like that. my surgeon did call me the week after surgery and I asked him are you sure you did the right surgery on me I’m not experienced anything that I’ve watched in other videos he reinsured me. Yes, you had the correct surgery. He was amazed at what I have accomplished so far, he didn’t tell me to stop, so I am looking forward to this. Wednesday’s visit today is memorial weekend Saturday. Again, thank you so much for your videos. I will be watching all of them and saving some. Thank you 😊

I love your videos. I’m 8 weeks post sleeve. I find that sugar free ice pops helped me with hydration as well. Especially in the first two weeks. I’m glad to know that I can have a cup of coffee once in a while ☺️

While you should ALWAYS do what YOUR surgeon says to do, he answers how he approaches this with his patients in this video, along with a number of other liquids. Watch and enjoy!

I'm 3 weeks post-op and I have had iced coffee. I agree with the doctor though, any liquids that are too hot while the tissues in the stomach are healing probably shouldn't be done until the healing is complete.
Also, on another note. I have been able to drink quite exactly as I used to before surgery. I never chugged water, but those little sips were killing me and I drink a good amount easily with no pain or discomfort. My weight isn't increasing and I am meeting my fluid intake goals/protein shakes.
And, that's why I came to this video, as I was afraid i'd be stretching my pouch by not taking small sips.
However, I do think separating liquids before and after eating is important more so for nutrient absorption rather than fear of stretching the stomach. And I absolutely wait with a timer on my phone. 30 mins before and about 45 mins after or until I feel like my stomach is empty.
And Honestly, if we are measuring our portion sizes and not breaking that routine, I don't see any issues with pouch stretching. But, if we start going to Buffetts and stuffing ourselves when we clearly feel full AF then yea... probably gonna be stretching that pouch.
