- to my wife's dismay, I got another new bike. after riding Andy's YT izzo, I realized I needed a different bike for the trails where I live. so I did some research for a "smart" buy bike. I wanted light, fast and capable. this is what I found:
a full carbon, full suspension, 120mm mountain bike, available at Costco. the intense 951 xc.

I love the new bike Collin! At the World Cup race in Snowshoe this year, the Norco team ran a mix of Regolith or Boosters. I’m guessing more of their riders were running Regolith due to the rain and mud during the race. It looks like a great tire for our trails.
Thanks Joel. I'm loving this bike more and more every ride. The tires seem to be a good mix for our trails and what I'm looking for. Just not use to having such a skinny tire up front. Scares me in fast corners a little bit 😂

Nice review. Have you tried the Pivot Mach 429 trail? It is hands down the best bike I've ever ridden. I could let you try mine sometime in exchange for one of those sweet Ace Bike Media stickies...lol

What mud guard did you use? I want to avoid all that mud in my face on rainy days
I just returned my Intense trail and ordered the XC. I ride for the climbs and the trail was hella heavy. Excited for XC to arrive.
You'll love the XC. It climbs so well. And I saw on Costco they offer it in blue now too which is cool. The fender I have is just a cheap one off Amazon.
@@acebikemedia plus I got $500 cash card from Costco for spending over $3k. The trail did feel more premium. I also loved the wider handlebars on the trail, but I ride for the climbs
$500 cash card! That's awesome. Use that to get some wider carbon bars. I didn't even ride the stock ones. I had some Carbone laying around and swapped them immediately. I just upgraded the NX drivetrain to GX AXS so I'm very anxious to try that out

I love it. It's such a fun bike to ride. Everything has held up super well. In some of my newer videos (top 5 products/ yt izzo vs 951) I have some shots of sending it pretty hard on that bike. Surprised at how versatile the bike is. Even in mostly stock form

I got my 951 XC down to 25 lbs with a lighter XC wheelset and replaced the heavy GX cassette with a X01 cassette. Now when picking up the bike it is noise heavy vice tail heavy as it was out of the box.
Geez. That would be a dream to get it down to 25. I think realistically 26.5 will be good for me. We will see though. I'm loving the bike more and more every ride

I had a Izzo Core2 with NX drivetrain and they felt good to me, but then I haven't had suspension or gears since 2003, got on SS till 2008 and pretty much stopped mtbing and just started up again this spring. NX felt just as good as the GX drivetrain..maybe better than 10-52t GX but 10-50t GX feels better than NX. Wow 27+lbs. is great, my Izzo Core2 was 31+lbs. with EggBeater Triple Ti and tubeless. How does the this 951xc compare to the Izzo? I sold my Izzo Core2 and got a Privateer141 and now am thinking of getting a short travel trail bike and this 951xc could be it with the price and lower weight. My Privateer is 34+lbs. with Eggbeater Triple Ti and tubeless.
Funny, we actually have a izzo vs 951xc video coming very soon. The NX drivetrain, I will admit is better than I expected. The big things are it's heavy and it's loud. Much louder than gx. Shifting is ok. It's not Shimano and the NX shifter it's self isn't my favorite. I actually just got GX axs that I will be upgrading it to. Those privateers are sick but they do seem on the heavy side. I'd love to ride the 161 at some point
@@acebikemedia yeah the all AL off the shelf tubes makes the Privateers heavy. I removed the stroke spacer in the shock and increased the 141 to 150-155mm travel. On my Izzo I took out the volume spacers but don't recall if it had stroke spacers or not, if so try taking them out to maybe increase it to 140?mm or so to match the front 140mm with a stroker kit. I never notice the noise of the NX..think cause I'm just getting back into mtbing and everything is new to me (geometry, drivetrain, suspension, etc) that I'm not familiar with them yet.. MTB tech has come a long way in the last 20years.😃
I purchased a izzo ,. Because I waited to long and waffled to much.. I really enjoy the izzo, but it's just a bit to small for me. I'm 5'9 1/2 and I went the med. Izzo. Just curious how the 951 fits you?
I don't have a ton of time on the izzo but I'm also 5'9" and rode a medium and I would say my 951 feels very similar in medium. I think with our height it's a weird thing, we are on the bubble for sizes. In some situations it's nice to have a smaller, more maneuverable bike and other it's nice to have the reach. I'm comfortable on the 951 medium but I think I would be equally comfortable on a large
Thanks, I have a slash m/ l and it fits awesome. I might be selling the izzo and looking for something a little longer. Plus I'm having some front fork issues. I haven't dug into yet. Hopefully the lowers just need to serviced. I do have about 540miles on it so it probably time.
The slash is such a good bike. Probably my favorite that trek makes. But I totally get why you would want a shorter travel bike also.

I have Cannondale F3, would this be good upgrade? My F3 is Large size and I am at 5.11, keep wondering if it's too large for me and should go Medium on Intense 951 XC..any recommendations?
951xc would be a huge upgrade. I would definitely go with a large. I'm 5'9" on a medium and sometimes I wish I had a large
What front mud fender do you have on the Fox 34 fork?
Just some cheap Amazon one I had laying around. It's a zip tie mud guard
Just ordered this bike today. Costco had $1,000 off, and I thought it was too good to pass up. Paid $ 1,937.24, with tax. Should arrive by Tuesday March 5, 2024. Stoked!

I ordered one today from Costco, $1799. The only size left is XL. I'm 6' 0", just within the Intense sizing chart.
Xl will probably fit you perfect. I found the sizing to be a bit small. Enjoy the bike. It's super fun! Can't beat those prices either

At that price, they got the budget sram drivetrain on it?
Its does have a cheaper NX drivetrain, but atleast it's not the SX. And it is full carbon under 4k, so I feel like spec wise, it's still a good deal
Hello, you are 5"9 and go with medium size. I am 5"7 , may I go with small size? I think M size is a little big.
I think a medium would be best. If I had to do it again I would get a large for myself

How are the brakes compared to sram guide Rs?
It's been a while since I rode the RS but I prefer these over most of the low/mid level SRAM brakes

What bike was more fun to ride? This bike or the Izzo???
I guess it depends on what fun is to you. I think the 951 feels more exciting to ride. I'm a little more confident on rowdier trails for a down country bike. The izzo on the other hand is a rocket ship when it comes to pedalling. So I guess on the right trails it's very fast, and fast is fun
