A quick tutorial on all of the functions of the S861 eBike LCD screen! There are multiple variations of this thing, with a varying number of buttons on them, but for the most part the options, functions, and usability should be pretty identical, so I do hope this video will be useful!

Thanks for this video, I could not find out what the Paremeter options did on this display so thanks for showing me, also, Holding down the C button will activate cruise control when throttle is applied.

Good job, watching this over the pond in Iowa. Just took out my 500w ebike for its first cruise. Speed maxed at 21mph, but My phone GPS speedometer showed I was maxing out at 28mph. I think thats just a legal hard setting they program into the controller because it pegs at 21 regardless of whats actually happening.
Could be! Question is... does the ODO record the mileage correctly, or is it also skewed towards the fake top speed?
Sometimes you can adjust the wheel size in settings to compensate for the spedo diff. Hope this can still help!

I noticed you mentioned PO7 doesn't change max speed. In my manual PO7 is 0-100% what Assist level 5 is. Mine defaults to 66%. This only works when you connect the speed/power limiter switch on the controller (believe it is K1 pin in the controller to GND) to limit Assist to 1 - 3 levels.

the number mentioned in the video are vary controller 2 controller so my ebike has totally different settings . example P01 is background light and P02 is unit measurements and so on..
Yeah, that seems to be the case and it sucks as there is not real consistency!
Lots of people were asking and I managed to find some computer settings for the s861 display. Some only have 1-8 setting changes in the advanced menu (like mine). Here is the list of the full settings for everyone and the possible reset option is listed as holding the +ve button for five seconds. I tried this but i'm not sure which advanced setting you need to be in to activate the reset. Hopefully - someone here will find out.
4.8 Set
P01：Backlight lamp brightness, level 1 is the most dark, level 3 is
the brightest;
P02：Unit mileage, 0: KM;1: the MILE;
P03：Level of voltage: 24 v, 36 v, 48 v, 36 v (by default);
P04：Sleep time: 0, means don't sleep;Other Numbers means for
the sleep time,
range: 1-60;Units of minutes;
P05：Assistance gears:0, 3Mode：1lever 2V、2lever 3V、3lever 4V;
1, 5Mode：1lever 2V、2lever 2.5V、3lever 3V、
4lever 3.5V、5lever 4V;
P06：Wheel diameter: unit, inch;Accuracy: 0.1;
P07：Speed measuring magnetic steel number: range: 1-100;
P08：Speed: the range 0 to 50 km/h;The default 50, 50 said not
the speed limit;
Note：when the speed is greater than the set speed, shut off the
PWM output;When speed down to less than the set speed,
automatically open the PWM output, driving speed to the
current + 1 km/h;
Numerical based on km as a benchmark here, after the unit set
from miles to miles, display the speed of numerical value is
automatically converted to the correct miles, but miles under
the interface of the menu in the values of speed limit set by
the data conversion, MPH speed limit values are not consistent
with the actual display,
P09：Zero start, non-zero start setting, 0:0 start;1: the non-zero start;
P10：Driving mode setting 0: power drive (decided how much
output power by power gear, at this time to turn the invalid).
1: electric (by going to drive, steering gear is invalid at this time).
2: power drive and electrical drive coexist (electric zero start state
is invalid).
P11：Power sensitivity setting range: 1-24;
P12：Assistance start the intensity setting range: 0-5;
P13：Power magnetic steel plate type 5 Sherwin grain of magnetic
steel three types;
P14：Controller for the current limit value to set,12A(by default)
range: 1 - 20 A;
P15 Not implemented now.

With me the po's are in a different order, does anyone know which Po has to do with the speed? And at what position it should be set. On assist no. 1, the bike is already going much too fast.

Thanks! Well... I am not sure to be honest... apparently there are different firmware versions of these screens, with more or less options... I have reports for some others with other functions too... so can't be certain what those are! It is possible... if the settings on P1 through P9 are the same on all... could it be they are different users that you can set... and just quickly chose which one is the "user" if different people use it... perhaps...?!

hey man so i changed all the settings on my totguard ebike model t-266 before I watched this video and now it caused some issues I searched the bike company but I only find baby cam manufacturer any idea how to to get the settings like the magnet amount? Because now when I lower the assist amount it goes max speed even in the lowest. I do remeber that it was somehow locked to just go up to 3 bars though not sure if that info helps?
Well number of magnets would depend on your hub and how many are in there! As for accelerating at lower assist... does not sound like a pole count issue... but I could be wrong...
Ok my kit (36volt 500watt hub motor) it has the same LCD display but watching this a couple of the settings are different like example p04 it shows a different setting then what yours does and I've seen some people explain that you can go to p10 or more mine only goes to p08 so what LCD do I have the buttons and display is exactly the same so how can I find what is up with mine
Well as it turns out, it seems there are different versions, I would assume, of the firmware for these, perhaps dependent on the controller it is connected to, so there are A LOT of variations out there to the number of settings options you get!

If there is a button, I doubt there is a way to do it in software. I suppose you may be able to work out some hardware bypass... but really not sure how it will work.

Well if you have the brakes wired in to the display, when you press the brake it will indicate it on the screen with that icon that the brake is pressed and the motor is cut off, the throttle icon, I assume, shows the throttle is active and working!

Very interesting I only just got my bike where I hold down the c button the assist changes to a flashing man and the motor causes the bike to jerk forward slightly any idea what this means I’m trying to work out why the throttle only works in PAS 5???
Seems to me like this could be some walk assist mode, for when pushing it, so as not to feel heavy and be cumbersome to do so!
@@eVroomer Yes, that's what it is, if you hold down the S- (lower) button for like 5 seconds it turns on walk mode, BE CAREFUL!

How do you do a factor factory reset
Hmmmmm... good question! I am not sure! In this case a good practice would be to go through all the menus and take note of the default values, and then if you change something that messes things up, just look it up, and change it back!
My display is identical. but only 3 buttons. It also will not allow me to change any of those values PO1-PO9 But it will not let me change any of the values. Like it is Locked.
Hmmmm... perhaps one of the buttons serves a dual purpose... or it is possible that it could be locked, to make sure you are not going to mess it up!
Thankyou so much I cant believe my kit never came with proper instructions for the LCD screen. I see you can change the voltage mode on PO5 Do you know or does anyone know if I change this to 36V will this allow me to run at 36v instead of the 48 ( I know it will be slower but I only want to go about 15 miles an hour anyway ) I have a 1000w motor and its too fast , way to fast !!!
Yeah, the 1000W does get up to speed, especially on the flat! As for whether you can change it... I see no reason why not, but keep in mind this would be a setting only for the display, the controller will need to be replaced, as well as the battery, if you want to run a lower voltage that is not supported by the controller.

All it is my controler and lcd display are the same as yours
and i have somehow managed to brake my LCD and i am without power intil i replace the lcd
The controller came as a set along with the whole system - screen, controller, hum motor. Was all made to work together in the factory! No adequate markings on it, so can't really say what make and model it is, but it is a 1kw system... I think it topped off at around 20A at 48-52v.
Just add wire or solder to shunt 4 more amps

Hello, I badly need Your assistance if possible, having same set as Yours/identical but with throttle on handle like with motorbike, PAS senor installed as well, did 400 just km, and bye, after fully charged battery (famous batteries UNIT PACK POWER 48V 20 Ah) I can ride just for kilometer or two, depends on power demand, and then electric will cut out and display will slowly dimme into black out....didnt went in full investigation as I am abroad at a moment...just waste of 600 euros in total. Very disapointed and sad, if any idea please let me know
Hey... sorry for the delay in replying! Did you figure it out? From the info you have provided my first guess would be the battery is badly unbalanced and the protection board in it is cutting power off when one of the cells drops below the programmed low end of the voltage! What voltage does your screen show before it shuts off?

Not surprised at all! Probably somebody threw in first thing they had at hand... could be the same factory has a few different kits, and they just shipped the wrong instructions with yours.
My ebike with a similar display has a throttle that only works while pedaling, is there any settings to make it work without pedaling? Thanks
I think 1 and 2 on P08 are for - 1- pedal assist with throttle 2 - pedal assist with independent throttle
Did you try the settings? Did it work?
I know on mine the wires are red and green or so for throttle and exactly the same wiring and colours for pedal assist; and thus i think you may have the throttle on the pedal assists connection and vica versa. As they will both work on each other's connections because they both accelerate the wheel. Just that the activation peripheral is different. And after that in some cases P09 or so needs to be set to 1 or 2; meaning throttle and assist together or throttle and assist independent of each other
@@Islamicknowledge-yx8rt Actually... not sure the throttle will work if connected to the pedal assist wire. The throttle maintains a fixed position on the hall sensor when you twist it, which tells the controller how much throttle to apply. The pedal assist needs to rotate continuously in order for the controller to apply throttle to the hub... if you stop pedalling and hold it in one place, like you would the throttle, it will stop throttling as well! Either way, I do like how this works, and how you can use the pedal assist levels as speed limits, removes the need to try and keep a constant speed manually. Just set it to the limit you want and apply full throttle at all times, it will stay at whatever speed that limit is at without going over. :)

The assistant level can up to 9 . Keep clicking up till u count to 9 . Then click down and u will see I takes 9 clicks to go down to zero.
Really? Does that make any difference to the top speed from the 5th up?
hm..my display S861 has 20 different options in the service menu. i just screwed up some settings (stupidity)and now the Bike is slower then before... :-(

@@bakersw0rld847 I've learned several different builders use this same bike frame from SMLRO. They just throw their electronics on it. So it's possible yours is completely different than mine. My bike was hit by a truck about 3 months ago. I can't find parts anywhere for it

Hi, sadly I am not aware of this function and have not seen this happen on mine! How did you manage to lock it up? Have tried some pin combinations to see if you can guess it?
I have motor error, how can it be reset or where is the error? Wheel does not turn battery fully
I am not sure how that can be reset! How do you know the display has an error, does it show a code of some sort?
@@eVroomer with a sign over kilometers an M with a circle drum. Error cable break to the engine. but another question in the settings my display only goes up to P09 facon lcd? in the videos they go up to P14? controller 36v 500watt
@@m.s.8293 But how do you know this icon means "cable break to the engine"? Does the motor still work? As for the settings... yes... it seems there are various versions of the display with different firmwares, some have fewer settings, others have more, it is a puzzle!
@@eVroomer motor did not say anything colleague measured the bike battery was full there was no power on the broken cable he repaired it. where can i get the settings for my display in german?

I have no idea about that! The controller may work without the LCD, but it may be limited to lowest power setting only.
I know I'm a bit late but I had to order a new lcd. But now the battery level stays on full bars at all times. How can I get the lcd to sync with battery level if possible? Help Please... Anyone
Hm... I am not sure I have an answer for you sadly! Been quite a while since I've been in the settings, and I can't say that I recall any, and right now I am in the middle of a serious restoration of one of my bikes, so can't really check since this bike is too deep under other stuff!
@@eVroomer alright so I have figured out just about every setting and every solution do to LCD/options/just about everything that can be messed with inside the LCD which is basically like the computer as everyone knows so if anyone has any questions or concerns

You may have the P setting for voltage. Mine has 36/48v option. If you have a 48v battery and the aetting is 36v, it will always show full.

Hm... I assume you are using the assist levels to limit the speed? It will reset on ever power cycle so you will have to click it up again next time you power up!

Is the cruise control working for you? Anytime I hold down the 'C' button, the indicator displays for like a second and then disappears. Has this happened to you, or is it just me?
Well... I have never used that! Holding down the C enters into cruise control?!
